Don't kid your yourself: this is a capable tactical folder to be sure. Brian Lai designed Spyderco Amalgam has a great steel, is fast, a four-way reversible pocket clip, a big blade, and is lightweight. Its quality levels are top shelf too. But the use of a compression lock has created controversy on the Amalgam. Me? I think it's a great knife you should get while you can; it will probably become a collectible in addition to its domination of first cool. It's rare will see a folder like this from Spyderco main line blades!

Big Statement from Spyderco: The Amalgam!

YES!!!! One of my favorite Spyderco knives!!!! I started out with the Tenacious on your recommendation over a decade ago! I've got more Spydies that I like to think about. Glad you reviewed this one.

Jordan Parker

Good looking option. I would love a Spyderco Manix 2 Lightweight TNP special edition! I'd buy several, the wire clip and large size make it my favorite EDC.

Schmuckatelli

As usual, the competitive offerings appeal more to me than the feature knife in this KRV. Not sure if this is an old video that was filmed before the original TNP HB came out, but I would be very excited to see a second TNP Special Edition Honey Badger (large, please).

I have 6 drop point Honey Badgers in D2, probably my favorite. For Christmas, I bought my brother in law that Manix 2 lightweight in S110v, because he’s a surgeon and a total badass.

Jacob Hurst

I don’t understand the lack of love for the LW manix in the spyderco community. I love my maxamet manix!

Nathan P Hubsch

Honey Badger is superior to all Spyderco. Even this one that's actually a flipper is still wildly overpriced.

Clint Raby

I really like the Amalgam but at $217 it's going to need TNP on it.

The Nutnfancy Project

Maybe we can make that happen down the road. Next up: Victorinox Cadet G10 TNP version!

The Nutnfancy Project

I did film it after the TNP HB came out, just didn't want to mention it again. (Don't want to sound like a broken record). Someone just sent me a leaf blade HB that I will do a short video on soon.

The Nutnfancy Project

True that. I forget it went so high on price. But Spyderco is famous for that even with their Taiwanese produced blades. Thanks Clint.

Schmuckatelli

I didn't even know they added a leaf blade to their options. The drop point was the only blade I really cared for in their lineup until I just saw the leaf blade. Time to get some more HBs.

Schmuckatelli

...AND tanto blades too?!?!?! Where have I been?

Schmuckatelli

Just discovered the new blade shapes that Honey Badger knives have and purchased 3 new HBs with tanto blades. Competitive offerings for the win!!!

Downtrodden

Nutn, on behalf of all married TNPers, thank you for waiting until after Valentines Day to release your latest special addition.

I love all of my Spydercos. I carry a K390 Man Bug everyday. Unless I trade it out with a cadet. And I’ve got a Tenacious LW, Manix 2 LW, Para 2 or a TNP Endura clipped to my other pocket. But unless it’s a TNP blade I’m hitting the brakes on blade purchases. Need to focus on firearms for awhile.

Spyderco always creates a quality product with interesting designs. The Able lock on Hogue Deka has been piquing my interest as of late. The beefy thumb stud makes for quick open and modified Wharncliffe blade is interesting design for covert defensive use. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

Ronald E. Walker

Just bought it today on Amazon for $218. Thank you, NutnFancy.

I too want a TNP Large Honeh Badger. So sick. I’m gonna rock mine tomorrow. Saw the leaf blade, cool shape, there is tanto now too. Whaaaaaat

hoplite ⚔️

Hogue looks like they are killing it with fit and finish. Really cool G10 colors too. There current OTFs look really great. Wish I could own one..

Shawn Kuse

Never liked the PM2 with compression lock. Not going to like this one either. Still, I love your KNR ps!

hoplite ⚔️

Faaaaaak that Tanto HB has a sick blade shape. Love the swedge. That’s what’s she said. What colors did you get??

hoplite ⚔️

I had my eye on an Amalgam a few times. Really seems like a cool blade. Thanks for the review on it.

Schmuckatelli

FDE, blue, and orange...I'm ordering some black clips to put on them too. I love the accessories that Honey Badger has on their website.

hoplite ⚔️

Good call on the black clips. I want to see the orange, black, and green version.

Mike R

Kind of reminds me of the Spyderco Gayle Bradley, I like the shape of the Bradley a bit better over the Amalgam.

Andrew Goody

Did you ever hook into a Spyderco Astute? I picked one up last year and it’s quickly become my favorite cheap EDC. I think Doodle would like it too, it’s like the Tenacious and Barong had a baby

Racing Psychosis

That would be a Spyderco that I maybe would actually buy if it didn't have that big hole in the blade. Completely hate the zip tie stuff and I love flippers.

Andrettski

Love my Manix. My most carried EDC knife.

Andrettski

Cool lookin' knife, not sure I'm diggin' the handle material. Personally I've been wanting a Shaman or a Yojimbo for my next Spydee. Also I never knew those Pacific Salts were that big, they always look small in the pictures, dig the yellow.

Jeremy doblinger

This one is a win for me and going in my knife list! I've gotta have you sign a few of my blades cause that is freaking awesome! Hello from Wisconsin Nutn!

Christopher Grogan

Behind on my reviews but just picked this knife up a few weeks ago great knife just wish the flipper feature was more snappy. But I got a hell of deal in on this knife 150 out the door tax included

David Wallen

Highly recommend you check out the Kizer Justice, Nut’n! Weight is the only non-stellar aspect at 5.1oz, but the blade size, shape, deployment, jimping, and price ($70!) make it a fantastic tactical blade option.

Zak Orendorff

Man I’ve been having a hard time just really digging any knives lately. Nothing really spoke to me from shot or anything. Maybe I’m just depressed. Maybe I’m burned out. Who knows. This spyderco is pretty cool. Def been carrying my PM2 a lot lately paired with a ultratech. Thanks Nutn.

Jesse (Sphinx)

I went on a compression lock binge, buying just about every Spyderco made that has a compression lock. Picked up the Amalgam at that time and it displaced a lot of my other EDC blades. I love the size you get for the weight and slimness. One of Spyderco's few home runs in the new design realm (so many of their new designs are just weird). Thanks for review.
