Here's one of my favorite watches, the Alpina Startimer series. 100% Swiss made and featuring classic styling, these have been shown in TNP for years...now it's time for the official feature length WRV. These have been taken on all kinds of TNP adventures from boating to diving to shooting. In prep for the review I secured six varieties to show you including the automatic version (always more expensive). Some cool camouflaged versions have been issued and I'll show you my favorite, the Urban Camo, also below in link. These watches feature typical Swiss quality with sapphire crystals, Sellita SW200 auto movements, perfect water-tight pushers, and excellent straps. Some smaller 42mm pieces are also reviewed, some featured my hands modification work to get rid of the sliver hands! You'll see for the first time here my watch "sensei" Chris Howard; he's helped me gain expertise in their disassembly.

These Startimers could be the pride of your collection and, while availability and cost always fluctuate, they are worth it!

I love the clean watch faces on these Alpinas. For first cool, I prefer solar powered watches with atomic time sync, but it is hard to find those in an analog format (which is a must, for second cool). I would enjoy an automatic Alpina, but that's a lot for me to spend on on a watch. Maybe one day... :-)

The white dials.. very nice! They look sharp

I have to watch this in private later, not to upset the balance of nature…

I had the startimer chrono quartz in the dark navy dial color. I thought the color was awesome because it reminded me of an aged aircraft gauge color. the problem I had was the tiny hands kept falling off with any sort of a jar. I do prefer the swiss automatic movements in particular after a watch is a couple years old, I just think they run better. Chris tweaked my sellita and its handful of seconds off after a months time!!! the startimer chrono helped me understand I am not a huge fan of chrono watches. and that I prefer dive watches because the bezel works great for timing things.

I'm digging the look. Dark blue face, stainless case with leather strap. Definitely speaks to my aesthetic.

Love the show Nutnfancy! For me, I own 160 million crypto coins right now. If their value goes up to one dollar, I will cash out and consider raising my watch budget to $250 per watch, just sayin’…. How about some lessons on how to modify the watches we got? You always talk about changing out shiny metal hands and stuff like that. I am left wondering, “How’d he do that.

Bye the way, cool turtle footage. Little buddy is cool. I think he wants you to throw the ball for him. Sorry sea creature. ❤️

Hold Fast Joe

He has created a watch modding video or two. Dig into the archives

That’s good to know. ThanksJoe.

The watch show is such good relaxing entertainment. Although sometimes it ends in a frantic hunt for a hard to find piece. The Aplina makes this episode super classic. Love the WRVs.

Brad Fegan

Love the watch reviews. Like the one with tan strap best.

Watches look nice, but if it isn't an automatic, I'm just not into it

I really like this series of watches! A bit much for my price point so maybe I can find a deal on ebay....

This paradigm largely mirrors the perspective held by me. Being a relative neophyte to wrist time pieces, the midrange elegance and minimalistic design of an automatic field or pilot watch piques the interest enough to consider the purchase. What little knowledge possessed pertaining to watches is garnered from Nutn's engaging and thorough discussions. The pilot Alpina automatic certainly is worthy of a future purchase, but in blue face.

Addicted? Had one watch for years. After the WRVs started I bought my first reviewed watch five years ago. I’m up to ten. No regrets and I’ve stayed under $300.00. In todays upside down world it’s difficult to justify more.

That auto needs a hands mode. The deep mallard blue is gorgeous. Mondaine arrived this week! It’s sticking. Thanks Nutn. Cool Leaf Blade Honey Badger! I’m waiting for the Tanto to drop in Canada. Gonna try and mod it with Jade scales.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks so much hoplite. Don't tell anyone but you watch loving TNPrs are my favorite.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes it is so sick, I just love it. Really hard to find such personality at this price point in a pure Swiss brand.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep I'm pretty much there in most pieces. I would make an exception for the Startimer (and did) b. it last a long time with its batteries and is half price of the automatic. But if you can get a Startimer auto for $400 or abouts, jump on it.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep it's possible. Just put in a search for "pre owned Alpina" then your model number. You may see one pop up sometime. I scored the 44mm ones shown all used.

The Nutnfancy Project

It does need a hands mod and I will do it. Maybe I can get its owner to let me. And then sell it to me for cheap!

The Nutnfancy Project

I like your approach...you can get so much watch for $300 or under. I'm truly amazed how they have held my interest all these years. They are really fun to swap in and out. Today I'm wearing my hands modded CCCP Aurora in blue dial. I'll be sad when it gets swapped out tomm.

YouTube watch reviews are my new jam. Bought 6 Deep Blue Master 1000's after watching Nutn's review. I only follow certain watch reviewers, as most of them are obviously pushing an agenda and are certainly influenced by manufacturers. That's why I love this channel. Fiercely independent.

HappyFrancisMacomber

I snagged the glycine air pilot chronograph version of this blue dial on bracelet at Jomashop when you reviewed it. Love that watch on a leather stitched band.

Good vid. I've become a Alpina fan. My wife bought me a Alipiner 4 as a anniversary gift last year. They seem like a good brand for the money. I've since picked up a Startimer and a Seastar from the grey market. As a brand they have everything I look for.

Logan Holmberg

Yeah I'll pay a bit of money for a good quartz watch. I recently paid $600 cdn for a casio Protrek Titanium PRW-60T. I love high end solar protreks and gshocks.

Logan Holmberg

I love my Fieldwalker. They discontinued them but I was lucky to pick up the steel bracelet they sell for it. It's a butterfly clasp but it's so how I should have bought the watch in the first place. The engineering bracelet is so damned comfortable.

Just picked up a blue startimer chrono (quartz movement) for a smokin' deal on the used market. The previous one with the "day" dial. Pretty much brand new. I'll wear it for a bit to see how I like it. Given the price I got it for, I can always turn it around and at least break even if I ultimately don't like it. I'm kinda new to watches. Only picked up a dw5600 G-Shock earlier this year since I figure it could take a beating if I smacked it around a bit. I fell in love with Alpina's design language from this vid and been on the hunt since. Too early to draw conclusions, but the watch itself seems very nice. I'll wear it at work for a while to see how I like it. Thanks, nutn, for turning me onto this brand!
