The PTR 91 is an HK 91 alternative and it has many fans.  You will find almost universally positive press on the gun.  The PTR 91 by PTR Industries represents 60s technology.  But all the requesters of this review, perhaps confused about all the online hype on it, are considering the gun over a modern AR10 style of rifle.  It is with this mandate that approach the PTR91 pistol review.  I took a long look at this heavy handgun in terms of accuracy, reliability, enjoyability in shooting, durability, accuracy, and ergos. You'll find my 2017 review of the type here: https://youtu.be/_a6cgDGhEuY.  Then we were disappointed in most respects with the PTR 91 and this data is shown in the video.  Perhaps this pistol version will fair better? For 2nd Cool, the PTR 91 certainly holds interest for many collectors: it looks good, the HK G3/91 history is fascinating, and cost is not exorbitant.  But you're still looking at a very heavy obsolete gun that is overly hyped.

Your Dream Gun? PTR91 .308 Pistol

The PTR 91 is an HK 91 alternative and it has many fans. You will find almost universally positive press on the gun. For years I've been asked to review this gun. We finally get one and put it through standard TNP testing. The PTR 91 by PTR Industries represents 60s technology. Ian

just saw psa has the psa10 in a 16" ss barrel. $820.

Rob Miller

I was trying to get to bed early…maybe tomorrow

jeremy beverly

Been watching you since 2011 at this point it’s impossible for me to buy if it doesn’t fit in my system. But I’ve always wanted one. Thanks for the video.

Ian McKechnie

Man...just getting ready for bed.. notification pops up. Curse, open video, let the 2nd cool flow

Jonathan-James

So duel wielding with single point slings. And friggin lasers.

Trystan Raven

Only when I need my kidney stones shattered.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I saw when you first scrolled over the options and read 9.5 pounds and almost spit out my drink.

2026-09-15 18:00 I’ve seen the weight on these options 😆🤣 so much better options now days heck finding g3 mags have been rough to find to. Let’s just admit it right now that the G3 series is getting out classed by other platforms now days in build quality and weight.

"Zombie communist"!! So funny. Thanks for doing your thing Nutn!

Jordan Parker

I want a G3 rifle, but you're right about it having little practical value for me or my systems. It's the same reason I want an FAL - because they look cool and I'd feel cool shooting them for fun!

I love a good bunker review! That’s a heavy piece, but I feel like it doesn’t serve a purpose. Especially for my uses. 2nd cool factor is off the charts for me and I’m sure other dudes, but the thought of implementing this firearm and building an actual system around it? I’ll pass. I love seeing you review this kind of stuff niche Nutn. It’s an awesome thought experiment. 10/10 review!

Downtrodden

I don’t know Nutn, I think POU is Solder Boy entertainment. You make someone run a 8.5” PTR91 and I’ll grab some popcorn.

TechNeck

Yeah weight... i got rid of my xcr -m because it weighed to much. And it was a full sized rifle for only 1lb more then this. I loved the xcr, super reliable, super accurate, but i dreaded packing it anywhere. Eventaully the weight became such a deal breaker i parted with it.

Shot442

Great truck gun for rollin dirty through the zombie apocalypse. I got a Springfield Armory Saint Victor AR-10 pistol when they first came out and what a great gun!!!!

Hold Fast Joe

It looks cool, sounds like it's reliable. I'm sure there's an audience until it's banned. Knowing what I do now my preferred 308 would be one built by compass lake engineering with a crazy nice barrel but not until I bought 5 cases of lead first and a few dozen mags. So pretty much never at this point, but if we're dreaming.. lol

NeSPy

A 15 minute GRV? Truly astonished. And agreed on all counts

Rho

I had a PTR 91 before. I wanted to scratch that itch. It weighed so much and the recoil had this twisting motion (not bad recoil just weird) . I eventually sold it and have now replaced it with an Aero M5. Much lighter and better shooting wise.

Matthew Larson

Thanks for the review, Nutn! Love the bunker format videos. Kind of hoped TD would have joined you on this since he was involved in the full size PTR 91 review, and I love his humor. But either way, agree on all your points. Very 2nd cool, but that's most of what it has going for it. I have an airsoft G3 and that's good enough for me🤣. I may still get a PTR9CT someday though. Just too iconic to pass up.

DisisSnake

NutnFancy! Can you get your hands on the SRM 1216 rotary semi auto shotgun and do a review. They’re are like zero out there

I tried to play one of your ugetube videos again today and it just spins. I tried 2 phones and a laptop and several browsers. It's just my internet connection to their service is too slow or gets interrupted. Not a rant, just thought I would give you a little feedback. It's unusable for me. I might be an outlier (hopefully?)

I think the HK91/CETME pattern rifles are REALLY cool. Like old muscle car cool. They're fun to look at, hear running, and occasionally drive. And like an old muscle car - my favorite being the '69 GTO Judge - the PTR has a ton of horsepower. That much is indisputable. However, the PTR also inherits the bad attributes of the muscle car; high weight, low maneuverability, a lack creature comforts and few modern amenities. It's 1960's technology, and hasn't kept up with the times. Neither the muscle car, nor the PTR, make for the best "daily drivers." Sure, short weekend trip? No sweat. But all day, every day? Not ideal.

Casey Jones

Yeah, the truck gun POU makes sense. Not something I’m looking for. I believe Palmetto State Armory was selling a PA-10 pistol at one point.

Garrett Dismukes

Just picked up a Winchester 1300 defender and put a houge 12” lop stock on it. Been looking for one forever. Paid $125 for it. Awesome setup

Lon N

UgeTube is a painful buffering nightmare for me also, on all devices. Every other video site works.

Lon N

Did I ever tell you about the new helium-filled tactical sling so you can CQB with your 14 inch Barrett?

Hold Fast Joe

That sucks, I was hoping it was just me. I can't even get it to start buffering Lbry/odysee used to be similar buffering wise but it's been growing and I rarely see it even stutter now. It's a distributed censorship resistant platform. I love it

Andrettski

Same here. And I really wanted to view the Ukraine vids.

Andrettski

COOL factor absolutely. POU next to nada. I surround myself with 5.56 AR's and 7.62 AK's and stock that ammo. 7.62 NATO or 300 Blk would start something I'm not willing to jump into. My Mini-14 and 30 are my alternative go-to fun guns.

Hold Fast Joe

Listened to Scott Cunningham regarding lbry/odysee. He's changed my mind about the platform. Guess need to look at others, but lbry definitely helped to get ball rolling towards such an idea

Lynn E Fite, Col (r)

Great update: second cool: Definitely, own a PRR 91 an. CA C93- goes well with my FAL. C93 fun to shoot, but my go too is my AR

Steve Feeser

Ohhh. I always wanted one of these in 308. Tempting. Just say No!!!

Pedro

I like my Ptr 91 FR, stupid reliable and cheap mags. Is it a boat anchor? Yes absolutely but it’s just neat.

Jesse (Sphinx)

I had a PTR 9KT. Choked on 80% of the ball ammo I tried (10 different ones!). Back to factory, still choking. Sold it back to dealer at a heavy loss with full disclosure of issues. Buy HK, Century, Zenith--anyone but PTR. They don't fix their stuff even when it's broke, so unless you get lucky and your $2000 firearm is good, you're screwed. I have a YouTube review of this gun and you can see details of the failures. Some commenters have had zero issues with PTR guns, and I'm glad for them, but it's not worth rolling the dice when the factory won't fix a bad one.

Wyatt B. Harrison

I liked the concept of compact 308 roller lock for a few reasons: with all the ammo shortages of this decade 308W/7.62x51mm always seemed available. plus with all the recent price increases its only 10%-20% more to shoot over 5.56mm. makes a cool Suppressor host. abundant and cheap mags. by alternative i haven't found a AR-10 shorty that is reliable. but truth be told PTR has discontinued this 12.5" model and only build a 8" model (palm slap to to face) a 8" 308W is just silly and i told them that.
