Time for a sleeping bag review. When the thieves stole my amazing 1990s rectangular bags (WTH) I went on a hunt for replacements. Now you might know that this focus is on a basecamp, not backpacking sleeping bag. That means I can take more size and weight for more comfort! After all it's not always fun being cooped up as a mummy. Here I introduce you to the Coleman "Big Basin 15º) bag. We'll cover the details quickly and I'll tell you when, in spite of a couple of quirks, it's highly recommended at its price level.

Saturday morning vid! Has!

Andrew Mullins

Sorry your belongings were stolen. Far to many scumbags out there these days.

Trey

Great review!

Chris carr

Drink a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, dilute with water if you suck. Wife showed me that trick and reflux problems gone!

Bill Armstrong

A great review. I do like the layered defense!

Brad Fegan

Sucks have to find replacements but liked the review.

The Nutnfancy Project

Yeah it's incredible. Things going downhill in KA still. But it's just stuff and stuff can be replaced

I'm 6'8" 300ish lbs and I love this bag. I have tried mummy bags and I don't like them. This bag gives me the "mummy" feel for when it is cooler to keep my head warmer, but doesn't constrict me like others do. I do agree with Nutn, it's a base camp, truck camping sleeping bag. Totally worth the money.

I like the hood feature. I once made the mistake of dipping my head down into the sleeping bag when it was very cold. I’ll never do that again, unless I have a snorkel!

Two shots of ACV, 4 stevia packets, licorice extract and 400 milligrams of caffeine- every day! Yeah, I mix it with water 🦄🌈🐶

For future consideration look at the Marmot Sawtooth, long X-wide. It is a light weight down bag rated at 15 deg. I AM 6'2" 225#, room to spare; I have been warm down to 10 Degrees.

I echo the thoughts re: square bags. I'm similarly sized (6'4", 235) and prefer a square bag. Maybe not a competitive option b/c of price, but I've invested in Wiggy's bags. https://www.wiggys.com/ There's lots out there on Wiggy. He and his newsletters rub some people the wrong way. That said, I love the bags/clothing. I've taken the Ultima Thule below zero while elk hunting, and woke up warm with ice on the outside of the bag. There are Youtube videos out there of people getting into the bags wet, sleeping outside and waking up dry. I haven't taken it to that extreme, but I do wake up warm/dry with moisture on the outside of the bag. The FTRSS overbag is one of the most used pieces of equipment I own. Very comfortable lighter / warmer temperature bags. This is firepower over mobility equipment, but maybe one could backpack with some of the lighter bags. They are more expensive, but made in Colorado. Machine washable and have held up to some abuse.

I got letter in mail this week my gas supplier went bankrupt so my 2 year contract is void. I may need this bag to survive next winter heating bills I like the lcr! Good choice, won't jam fired from inside your sleeping bag!

Still rockin my vintage recon bags from back in the day, good bags for sure.

I spend over 30 nights a year in a sleeping bag. last summer I lost my beloved cabelas down bag, probably spent 400+ nights in it. looked all over because I hate mummy bags. What I ended up with is the Big agnes diamond park, holy shit I love it!!! its like not sleeping in a bag. dual zippers makes it feel like covers at home. The age old problem of the pillow slipping off the back of my pad is solved because it has a pocket for that. along with the q core pad, it solves issues I never knew I had. I would still buy the coleman for my kids, but for me I am going big agnes. I have since bought my wife an identical setup.

Paul Griech

i guess if there that hard up to steal a sleeping bag from the 90s lol

Shadeslinger

Biden Gas. I don’t know if you were referring to a petroleum product or actual former VP flatulence. So hard to tell these days… As for the bag, good info! I myself do not buy any hooded bags as they annoy me to no end.

Steve Feeser

Nice roomy bag. I’m a small guy but a side sleeper. I hate mummy bags. I’d love a lightweight warm rectangular bag. But this might work for car camping in colder weather. Thanks for the review!!!!

TechNeck

Whats this base camp you speak of? Either im walking in, or riding in... sawc is always a factor for me lol. Whats the final size packed, something like that might be good for the truck

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

Thanks for the quick vid Nutn. It’s good to know what’s out there. I’ve been using the same qualofill bag for almost 40 years now. I dusted it off after too many years of storage and while I fully expected to need a new bag, it fluffed right up and was as cozy as I remember it.

Thanks for the review and the alternative choices. I keep looking at new bags but still pack my 1973 Coleman down rectangle bag when I go. Tested to around 30 and still keeps me warm and cozy. Easy to pack too. Like you, can't stand a mummy. Have one that goes to zero but no longer have a need for it...until wrol that is.

Matt

Appreciate the camping/backpacking vids. Curious about the slumber Jack bags. Seem to frequently see them around on clearance.

Gilbert Cuzdey Jr

Great review. Last year I picked up a Coleman mummy 0 degree bag off Amazon for about 60 bucks. It's been great, we keep them in our vehicles in the winter months. Definitely not a hiking bag.

J Ram

Great choice Col! I bought that same bag 7years ago to keep up with the cold weather camping my Scout Troop was doing (truck/trailer camping not backpacking). I'm a "big boy" and this bag has been perfect (plenty of room and plenty warm).

Derek Peterson

Hell yea! This review comes with perfect timing! Thanks Nutn!

Bluegill097

Glad to see camping gear coming back!

Bravo

Hey nutn can we get some SAWC conscious sleeping bags and tents etc, I’m getting more into the outdoors and bushcraft (I know your not so into the bushcraft part) and hiking and camping all that good stuff. Would love to see some solid options in the mid price range. Thanks keep the content crankin!

Downtrodden

Loving the HPQ video as always! Funny how we get sentimentally attached to pieces of equipment. I totally get it. I need a new sleeping bag for moto camping but I need something that really compresses. I love my Big Agnes(BA) sleeping pad so I’m leaning toward a BA bag with pad sleeve for a complete system.

Paul Kwiatkowski

I lke the 10 minute sleeping bag review mixed in with the full length reviews. It is enough insight to evaluate a purchase. $5 a month is a bargain subscription.

Cool review. Thanks for the diff content and describing edc loadout. I got to find some affordable sleeping bags for the family BOKs. The Gen 2 Pacific Salt is pretty epic.

Check local pawn shops, they might have sold them.

Ian

Thanks for the Big Man review! May need to add a couple of these to the Truck camp load out.

Foghorn

Excellent!!! Ive had this very bag in my "save for later" for a while. Good to know its worth it..

Jesse (Sphinx)

Love the camping videos. Everything from backpacking to basecamping from a vehicle/trailer. I camped all over US using a backpacking set-up on a KLR650 motorcycle. Loved that bike. Best bag I've found for 4-season use, backpacking or basecamping? Sierra Designs Backcountry bed. No zippers and roomy at shoulders for side sleepers. Got me a 20* and wife a 0* since she tends to be colder than me. We're cozy down to 30 in a tent with those. They make a double bag with the same design that I may add to mix one day, and pass my bag down to kiddo 1, and wife's bag to kiddo 2 (on the way!).
