At its heart TNP's Red Skies is about showing how difficult SAWC can be in a self-contained man portable tactical system. SAWC is a key concept in my reviews and I preach "lighten everything." It's good to hit the field in a tactical backpacking multi-day adventure to reinforce the credibility on the concept. And many TNPrs have been waiting for another RS to happen; it's been 10 years!

Stalwart crew members Sean the TNPr and Jardine are in on this one. They are hard working, never complaining dudes that help make this whole thing a reality. You'll see us gearing up, talking guns, putting a boulder in Sean's pack (yes really), and  hiking in long range 80 lb steel targets. After all that THEN we start the actual Red Skies hike in and engagements. We camp that night at our location.

Along the way we're engaging natural targets  and there's lots. Hiking in heavy loads (at least Sean and I!) gets the heart pumping so the shooting is slightly stressed. Usually we'd dump our packs but putting them on again was so much work I dispensed with this. Our area, scouted out on the KTM 890, is remote and we are the only ones out there...ahhh the bliss.

I carry the S&W M&P10 7.62x51mm SAPR. The ladies go with a .223 pop guns that are cute and easily to carry...ha ha (kidding).  It's a long hot hike and enroute we engage, with fully loaded backpacks, targets out to 500 yds.

Red Skies Actual Part 2 (Tactical Backpacking)

At its heart TNP's Red Skies is about showing how difficult SAWC can be in a self-contained man portable tactical system. SAWC is a key concept in my reviews and I preach "lighten everything." It's good to hit the field in a tactical backpacking multi-day adventure to reinforce the credibility on the concept. And many TNPrs have been waiting for another RS to happen; it's been 10 years! Our area, scouted out on the KTM 890, is remote and we are the only ones out there...ahhh the bliss. I carry the S&W M&P10 7.62x51mm SAPR. The other fellas go with a .223 pop guns that are cute and easily to carry...ha ha (kidding). Of course the curse of the desert makes a strange appearance in this Part 1 and I'm mortaring the M&P10. Once past that it's smooth sailing as we engage, with fully loaded backpacks, targets out to 400 yds. This is the "actual" part of RS22 so lots of hiking work is shown should there be any doubt the hike in actually happened! Music captures the moods and an old school Dudio song kicks off the synopsis. Oh yes. I've been waiting for this. I figured it would come this week.

Jeremy Huggins

Glad to see this post. Appreciate y’all putting in the work!

BRIAN J ANDERSON

54 minutes of being real, hard work, and having some fun!

David and Elizabeth

Great long-range shooting, boys! You said it, Nutn. Jardine and Sean DID do the Project right!! ❤❤

Hold Fast Joe

Well done! I've gone out to 400 in mid West. There's a few places I've been that'll let me go out further but I haven't tried it yet. 400 is a challenge! 500+ will be next level stuff. Again well done sirs! Thanks!

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you HFJ! Yep 400 is no give me, some act like it is. 500 off of sticks is a challenge.

JAC

Good stuff

Patrick Richards

I’m sure doing a table top takes a certain amount of effort and time, but this really does take a lot of effort, time and money. Thank you for putting in the blood sweat and tears! (Tears being gas prices)

Bernal

Cool! I need a range finder, using a Stanley 100’ tape, only good for flat terrain.

Brad Fegan

Glad you guys were able to get out and do this.

Jayson Fraser

I used to have an M&P-15 that bent the cartridges like that! It did it 3-4 times per magazine. I tried different ammo, different mags, a heavy buffer, swapped the BCG, and it still consistently bent the cartridge as it fed, making it super hard to remove. I took it to a gunsmith who said nothing was wrong with it. I was sick of it, so I sold it to him. I did a fair amount of research at the time, and couldn’t find anyone who had had the same issue. I’m glad yours seems to work fine with certain mags. If it’s reliable it’s a great gun!

James Lawson

Another great video!! Love the long range shooting cool to see 55gr hitting!

Lorenzo

Awesome! Let’s see that camp setup?

David Goodridge

You’re blessed to have access to places like this

david rockwell

Thank you for this new series of backpacking and great interaction of like-minded patriots. Shooting at local rifle range feels so constrained after watching the expansive vista available out west. The continued effort and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Robert Plested

Good info. What barrel is Jardine using?

Jonathan-James

Very much enjoyed the whole thing. 10 year wait and not disappointed.

Plumber Angelo

Part 2 in the books. Awesome shooting! Jardine’s marksmanship is on point. I appreciate you taking us on this adventure Nutn!

Patrick Cacchioli

Admittedly I am not familiar with any of those packs but they all appear to have the shoulders adjusted way too low from a hiking/backpacking viewpoint.

Brandon Rowe

It's difficult to get right when wearing body armor.

Josh P.

Love that Red Skies was revived! Also I feel how hard it is to get the 55gr to hit at 500, not easy to say the least!

Chris carr

Is there a part 3 waiting to see camp and camp dinner

Chris carr

It is for us bolt guys with tripods and bolt guns, real world with my ar, big difference. Good job tnp 👍🤘🤘😎

Steven Salina

What music is that at the opening?

Jesse (Sphinx)

I haven't done 500 with my .223 wylde chambered 16-inch barrel AR, but 400 is easy-peasy on a 6-inch plate, with .223 55gr sierra blitz kings. I'm using ballistic matched reticle on a Bushnell 1-6x24 (Made in Korea, $300 (!) and in an Aero $80 mount). It is my go to AR optic. Etched and illuminated, as close to 1x as you could desire on 1, and 6 is enough for 400 yard hits. The optic: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SVMTN4M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Does it get a lot harder going from 400 to 500? I've done out to 800 on my .308, and I'm doping 27+ MOA for that (216+ inches or 18 feet!). So 80 inches at 500 doesn't sound like a lot.

Alex Barturen

Man!!!! I would love to do this with you lol. This looks like it was a blast to do.

Jardine

CHF FN barrel chrome lined and heavy profile.

David Elkins

Awesome long distance shooting from the team.
