This was a ride to test knives. I'll narrate just a bit as we make our way into the remote desert canyon. The stead is the xlnt KTM 690 Enduro R, reviewed here: https://youtu.be/bK28naP9zyM  I'll go over some of my survival gear, look at the 2022 KTM 690, show a little bit of the knife testing accomplished, show you this cool area and then we right out at night...with the rear tire leaking. Time will go fast on this one!

Ian

hell yeah for a Lil moto action! are we gonna get a red skies pt3? camp set up and night exercises?

The Nutnfancy Project

Yes! Part 3 is edited and done. Night shoot included. Some of the camp set up. Then the series will be complete...so sad!

No ktm... i passed on the high maintenance cycle.. dr 650, KISS to the core. If you are looking at a better onroad off road tire, the mita E07 dakar are amazing, on my 650 i get 10 000km out of a rear before im down to the last 3/16 tread (about 6250 miles) on road. Its decent off road and the lug design doesn't allow for the bending around corners onroad like most tire as agresive as them are prone to do.

TechNeck

Also no lodgepol pines in the alpine. Thats a swamp pine. Your probably looking at jack pines.

Brad Fegan

Love riding enduros. Been a bit since been on one. The Yamaha Tenere 700 been catching my eye. Just has a look I like.

Todd Strelka

Such an interesting video to watch. I enjoy the technical details and commentary on all of the subject matter covered. I keep a Viair tire inflator and tire repair kit in my truck at all times. Smart to have the needed supplies and survival gear.

TechNeck

i use a high volume bycle pump on my bike, it takes up very little space. I can inflate the rear from flat in about 200 (5 inch) pumps... which takes under 2 minutes.

Austin Bailey

Ah man. I've been trying the Marauder for a couple years now. Pumped for your review.

Hold Fast Joe

My in laws just got a 4 year old Harley. It needs brakes, something wrong with the electrical system, runs rough, barely starts, tires are shot, few other minor issues. Paid over 5k and thought it was a great deal. Give me the ktm, or A Honda shadow, or just something that'll simply run like a vespa. I'm easy

RckyMntnMn

Love the moto / knife / 2x4 content. You always inspire with your enthusiasm.

Seeker Keyl

As a road rider only, I enjoy the adventure/dirty moto ride vids. Thanks for taking us with you.

J Ram

Yeah, yeah, yeah....everyone loves the KTM...(great bike), but you're missing the awesome knife testing my dudes!!! Focus!! lol (I love these gear testing videos, Col).

jay m

Once again another epic video! absolutely love the moto vids... keep them coming nutn!!!

Nicolas Royston

Just spent a week in Big Sky country with my Jesse Hemphill Bowie on my hip!

Outrider950

KTM 690 Enduro R. Unfortunately it gets very light usage. I use the KTM 950 SM far more often. I wish that were not the case.

Jordan Parker

Very cool spot you've found for testing. Those KTMs are really growing on me after your reviews! Thank you for the moto adventure, Nutn!

Tomcat503

Thanks again for another moto adventure!

The Nutnfancy Project

Each has it's advantages for sure. If it goes unused for a long period of time maybe time to sell it, so sad

Plumber Angelo

Love seeing you test those large “survival” knives! Every time I see someone on a KTM on the Bay Area freeways, I always look for those TNP stickers to see if it’s you! Thanks Nutn!

Racing Psychosis

That kind of music was expecting a bit of dancing to kickoff. Thank goodness that I was wrong. Never had a dual sport, just dedicated offroad and onroad bikes. Although my dad would ride is Bonneville Triumph onroad and offroad with the right tire. Now with my balance issues no motorcycle or bicycle even for me.

Racing Psychosis

The orange is better than Kaw green or Yamie Yellow imo.

Downtrodden

I take a little different approach to my G650X Challenge and keep it more dirt oriented than your 690. I don’t mind using knobbies up because I’m going to take it places where my 1200 can’t go. I also have many friends with smaller dual sports and I love showing them what a big bore can do. I know that your 690 has a few more HP than my 650 but I’m getting closer to 60mpg. I’m still running stock pipe and tune so it could be on the lean side.

WILLIAM MEYER

KLR with knobbies for the technical stuff mostly because scrapes, scratches, etc are honorable war scars, Suzuki VStrom for dirt and fire roads with 80-20's. Much prefer the twin cylinder for higher gears.

Hold Fast Joe

Stock setup is great. I think a lot of "upgrades" are just marketing. I think you made a wonderful choice keeping it the way it came

Downtrodden

Well I did replace the entire suspension, seat, and a couple small known weaknesses. However, the Rotax engine is reliable and proven. It’s pushing 30,000 miles and going strong but we will see if the dirt and dust of the SW shortens the expected life.

Downtrodden

TechNeck, I also carry a bike pump on my tube tire motos. I have an electric pump on my GS but would never waste that weight and size on a dual sport. I’d rather carry more tubes and tire irons than an air compressor.

Outrider950

Do either of you guys have experience with the Motoz Mountain Hybrid tires? They are supposed to have great road wear characteristics and retain off-road capabilities.

Downtrodden

Nope I haven’t. It looks like a trials tire. As long as it’s not as stiff as the Tractionator, I’d be willing to try it. I’m a big fan of Pirelli MT21. My second choice is Dunlop 606 with Continental TKC80 coming in third. I’ve been running Shinkos on my GS. They’re not bad for the price.

Andrettski

My wife and I recently bought a coastal property and I told her that I'm getting a street bike or a dual-sport to ride over there and surprisingly didn't receive any push back. It was during dinner last night, after she was 2 glasses of wine in at the time, so we'll see. Def leaning dual-sport so I can ride it up in the coastal range.

Andrettski

To each their own but I just can't stand orange. Yammie blue for me, but I like all the Japanese motocross bike colors. Those 'lightning yellow' YZ's from the '70's-'80's were bad ass IMO.

Thanks for taking us on the adventure. Love those big knives. Had the Rtak out last weekend!

Timothy Rannells

Got my KTM 690 back in February absolutely love it, got the touratech panner system and use the bike for commuting to and from work.

Jesse (Sphinx)

Love the moto content. Recently got my first bike in a while (1971 Triumph), and now that I've got a vintage steed I'm looking for an enduro (leaning Kawasaki KLX300, but like the KTMs) and a dedicated street bike (thinking BMW R1150GS or other horizontally opposed twin--I know it's supposed to be an ADV bike, but at that size/weight it's more streetbike for me). Can pick up a low mileage R1150GS for $5Kish! Not bad at all.

Darrrn

I picked up a ‘22 smc r this year. I’ve been wanting one for years. Very happy with it. It’s a bit of a toy around Utah but I didn’t buy it for here. It’s been to norther cal a few times and it really shine on all those B roads that I go there for. It’s made me wonder about adding a enduro r to the garage.
