Let's face it: this is a cool gun.  It should and probably will be in SciFi movies. Just like my wife, on looks alone she wins. The KelTec P50 gives competition to 5.7x28mm guns such as the Ruger 57, FN Five Seven, Ruger LC Carbine, and maybe even to FN PS90.

Discussion on this will ensue. KT has had many QC probs in the past and I open with this in joking fashion; did this P50 also experience these issues?  Hmmm, we'll see in the video.

Don't forget this is still a pistol. When filmed, putting on a pistol brace was still legal and that would transform this gun into something special. We tested it as a pistol w/o brace however...so sad. But the damn commies are always trying to outlaw everything and this will eventually be banned [this is in play right now in fact]. Including the gun as a whole: standard capacity magazine is 50 rounds for instance. So this is another naughty black gun that these f-ers will want to ban.

I remind you of the financial and power realities of the caliber and discuss all the features.  In the end you may be surprised at my recommendation of the P50.

High Firepower King: KelTec P50

It’s Star Wars cool, feel like I’m watching a TNP Han Solo, storm trooper, starship trooper dating 90’s Denise Richards bout to go blast through some paper towel vest wearing invasive alien squirrels!

HappyFrancisMacomber

Let’s hope our president can make NATO rounds affordable again 🇺🇸

Moe Mansour

Man, that sea hunter is just so striking! I could waste a whole day looking at it lol

Josiah Fisher

I believe he also designed the tech N9ne

Andrew Helsel

If I hadn't just dropped $1100 for an expert grade M1 Garand from the CMP program, I'd probably get the P50. I made a CMMG 5.7 pistol upper with their 5" conversion barrel/bolt kit and it's pretty great; I would be wiser to get a 5.7 handgun to complement it.

brontoab1

If a person is at $1500 for a p50 and a brace, it's hard not to just go for a ps90 instead...unless you already have one. Maybe PS90 prices have skyrocketed. I don't know.

I recently had to send my Gen2 Sub2000 back because it was jamming consistently and tearing the shell casings almost in half. They sent me a letter back that basically said, it’s all your fault, but we went ahead and replaced the entire frame and extractor🤣 After getting it back and ~200 rounds, it runs great and prints right where I’m aiming, like it a lot!

Thx Nutnfancy. That was a fun video.

Matthew Sinn

Hell yeah! Thanks for the review Nutn. This was one gun I don't really need your review validation for, though... It's my first tax stamp, legally SBR'd. I freaking love it. Light weight, compact, high capacity, incredibly controllable and low recoil. It's a laser beam with a Holosun 503GU and extremely comfortable to point and swing with a small VG and minimalist folding stock. They only downside, as you mentioned, is the cost of ammo. With all the new firearms being announced in 5.7x28 though, and I believe Federal or some other big player announced a new 5.7 manufacturing effort, my hope is that cost may deflate some in the future. More details about my build, decisions for attachments, and shooting experience are out on the KTOG forum: https://www.thektog.org/threads/p50-stamped-approaching-perfection.276550/#post-2523867

Chris Lacher

I would like a system built around 5.7. Maybe Ruger 57 and their new carbine, the Keltec for wow/fun. But ... $130 for loading both magazines one time? Yikes.

Joe Mack

I thought I was cured. Looks like it's back to rehab cause I'm still a gear queer. I neeeeed iiittt

Matthew Sinn

Nutn - something to note if you did keep the P50. I noticed when you showed the bolt that the rods were backing out like I described mine did in my posts on KTOG. Something to look at.

Dawson Rabb

I couldnt wait to see this review even though i have no intent to get the pistol one way or the other.

Pedro

I’m 28 but I just found a mint condition Logan’s run book. Damn cool story there.

Jonathan-James

That look sick with a drop leg holster. Especially on the motorcycle.

Tim Bone

People have wanted a "poor-man's MP7". Looks like they are here...now let's see if 5.7mm can come down in price and if different loads are available.

Brad Fegan

Very first thought before you said it needs a brace. Second thought, neat as hell. I bet super fun to shoot. Third thought, cost of it with brace and ammo, OUCH!! Think I will stick with sub-2000 or AR pistol.

Hold Fast Joe

Wow expensive review! Very cool Must have been recorded prior to late August 2022 as AR pistols are now redesignated to SBR so illegal without paperwork. I haven't heard of law suits yet, I think they're waiting for the first ATF raid or whatever.

Tim Bone

Truth! And there's not much of a selection of ammo types. Ammo selection is crucial for this type of niche-caliber.

Tim Bone

Great review! I'm a Chicago police officer and for whatever reason the Five-Seven is popular with our violent felons here (they seem to think all 5.7mm are "cop killer" rounds). I've seen people hit by this round (fired by both the pistol and carbine) and its no joke! The wounds its makes are gnarly. I would put it up there with a .357 Magnum in terms of lethality. I would buy one myself if ammo wasn't so damn expensive and hard-to-find.

robert mccrory

ya Duck Duck Go is just as bad. use freespoke

Chuck Cribbs

Why can’t you put a brace on it? They aren’t illegal.

Chuck Cribbs

That’s not true. They are considering them but nothing definite yet. It’s was a leaked document. Look on any firearms website. They are selling pistols with braces.

Downtrodden

Han Solo should have been carrying one. 5.7 is the poster on your bedroom wall next to the Countach and Kelly Le Brock. It’s also the jealously meme with 9mm and 5.56 looking incredulously at your piggish desires. 5.7 is that stripper named Britney driving a convertible Eclipse. Seems cheap but gets expensive very fast!

Hold Fast Joe

Ah that's good, I thought it was a done deal

Josh P.

I just saw a ruger version of this yesterday in 5.7x 28 very interesting. Tigers took their pistol nah not the p90

Bryan Palmer

I know that FN branded 5.7x28 ammo comes from factory with a lacquer-ish type of coating to enhance lubriciy. I believe thats why FN always advocates for use of either fn branded or American eagle branded 5.7 in their guns. The uncoated ammo out there can be problematic.

David Elkins

If the cost of the gun and ammo was more reasonable it could be a good truck gun when trying to drive across country during riot season.

Bluegill097

Wow, this was the first GRV where I had never even heard of the firearm. I must be out of the loop these days !

BadgerTails

Yes, I've switched over systems for the wife/kids' guns for the Kel-tec .22, 22WMR, and the SUb2K; broken in, fully cleaned up and 100%. I'd run the P50 same as my SIG P556 with a single point sling and MP5-like exteneded sight alignment/picture. FUN! BTW PSA: FedEx delivered 2 batches of 6.5 PRC the other day, signature required; one driver just left on porch, but the other required to see my ID, THEN he scanned my DL with their delivery scanner?! We are NOT in the commie-fornia ammo restricted zones, it's their latest layer of watching where the ammo goes? Kill a Commie for Mommy, F*&K commmie-fornia like gun laws, while they are about to release the scumbags from IL!? Thank You Nutn!

BadgerTails

Ditto, just caught the new-to-me Bergara HMR WIlderness 6.5 PRC, only so much budget.......

The Nutnfancy Project

In for testing right now ;-0. I predicted Ruger would come out with a carbine 5.7 and they did it.

robert mccrory

Free spoke this guy is conservative/libertarian has been canceled himself, i believe owner of the cubs or part owner, duck duck go tried to piggy-back off free speech movement until they built up market share, now doing what Google does.

Lee

I don't own any Kel Tecs but I should. They are about 20 minutes north of me and I REALLY like the looks of their handguns. I don't know what it is but I find them very appealing to me.

TRJ

ATF can’t make “law”, they just think they can… I know I know, just drive on and make your own choices, now or in the future.

TRJ

You can criticize Kel Tec on a lot of things but innovation is not one of them. At least they take chances with new products. Kel Tec = Ruger R&D ;-)

Matthew Larson

Thanks for the vid, Nutn! I'm a little behind getting to watching it. The P50 does look like a lot of fun! On the topic of 5.7 options, do you have plans to review/field test Palmetto's offering, the Rock? I'm curious about 5.7 as a handgun offering, and the Rock appears to be the best value of what's on the market currently. I know ammo is expensive, but I know your vid would be done right!
