Here you'll find out all about it: it does have some good features and holds promise. But in some ways it's half baked and not cuttin' it.

Thankfully you caught me at a time when I’m too poor for new guns lol

I was able to get one of these locally on day of launch for MAP right off the bat. Took it to the range and couldn't get through a single mag without 4-5 failure to feeds. I was able to sell it for what I bought it for the very next day. When I took it down it became apparent how ill fit everything was. The hammer had such a thick cerakote layer that the firing pin wore a divot into it, down to the MIM hammer. Same with the disconnector, thick cerakote on parts it has no business being on. Like you nailed already, way too heavy. Magazines had all sorts of problems feeding, which is funny because duramag went on instagram talking about how their magazines will revolutionize the 2011 mag game, quitely talking shit to staccato/MBX. The marketing on this was some of the worst in recent memory. Many oper8r seal/delta/green beret/secret squirrel guys telling me how this gun will transform my life when in reality I just magdump into trash at 5 yards. Most gun marketing is awful these days but the Prodigy takes the trophy. I think the target market for this is guys who want a 2011 but can't/don't want to pay the money for a staccato gun. There are already companies that you can send your prodigy to that will fix all issues and chuck a reliability package into, and when you go that route you're at staccato price already. If you're seriously thinking of a 2011 skip this and save for a staccato. If you end up not liking it they carry value well and you can resell it without getting hurt too bad.

Looking forward to this one.

Greg Malcom

Thanks Nutn! I particularly excited about getting a 2011 someday... Any recommendations appreciated.

Patrick Richards

Held one of these when they came out. Felt nice in hand but I asked the gun counter guy if I could try the trigger. He said yes, the hammer failed to drop twice as I pulled the trigger. And felt like it failed to reset once. I just got a bad feeling about this gun right off the bat. Don’t want to buy issues!

Silas Porter

Another company sending an incomplete gun to market and using its customers as beta testers.

Andrew Curt

I alternate between a full size steel frame 1911 and a Kahr k9. Never had an issue with either option! Often use a shoulder holster for the 1911 and it works great. Thanks for the vid!!!

Andrew H

Cool gun. Hopefully they fix the kinks and it sells well, and they introduce a lightweight model.

DAVID MILLS

A 12 pound Wilson Combat recoil spring took care of the FTF/FTE problems that my goto range was having with their prodigy. FWIW.

Kevin Sanderson

I did not buy a Springfield Prodigy. I have however been carrying a PDP for a year and plan to build a full size PDP 5” for USPSA. Modern weapons are superior to 110 year old designs shoehorned into modern configurations.

The Nutnfancy Project

hello Greg, I do like the Springfield EMP 1911, it tested very well. 10 rds total. I do show it a bit here and talk about it. It's also 9mm. For .45 ACP I still very much like S&W 1911s and the Tisas products.

The Nutnfancy Project

"the hammer failed to drop twice as I pulled the trigger. " Oooof, that is bad. Glad you resisted.

The Nutnfancy Project

I think it will survive, if reliable it does fill a nice niche in the market, SA is a good company, they'll fix it

The Nutnfancy Project

Roger that. I don't want to spend any money and more time on a loaner gun but that's good info

The Nutnfancy Project

"Modern weapons are superior to 110 year old designs shoehorned into modern configurations." More truth from the TNP Clubhouse, well said Kevin

Greg Malcom

Thanks brother!! Do they have a double stack 2011 frame too?

Downtrodden

I was in a LGS last week deciding between 1st and 2nd cool, when I saw The Prodigy marketing signage. “Can’t wait for a TNP review, but it probably won’t be for a while.” I’m impressed it was already in the can! Btw…In these crazy times I kept my choice 1st cool. Santa won’t be delivering a Python this Christmas!

Seeker Keyl

This is not the first negative review I've seen on the prodigy. Can't justify a 1911 style gun right now so no big for me that it has some problems. Actually, can't really justify any new guns right now :p. My wallet cant take it!

Bernal

I like it. High 2nd cool.

BadgerTails

Kerrbango: what I drink on my days off, whilst watching TNP and working on the GX460. Looks like a modified RIA 2011 I grabbed some years ago in 22TCM/9mm combo, Commander length. DO you think it's just a matter of the timing of RSA and their magazines? Thank You again for the honesty, integrity. EDC? No, I carry the RIA 2011 ocassionaly in the winter, Bianchi shoulder holster. That RIA IIRC was around $580 a few years ago. Drive on TNPers!!!! Merry Christmas everybody!!! Kerbango!

Sean

I love it when you crap on stuff

My father-in-law just bought a used Springfield 1911 in 9mm. I’ve shot it with him and it ran flawlessly for us. We were shooting at a milk jug in the dark with flashlights and I was still hitting the lid at around 7 yards. Amazing gun! Really makes me want a 1911! It would be a fun gun and a secondary HD gun for me. I’m out on anything in the $800+ range though. Just can’t afford it. Especially when I could buy multiple PSA Daggers for the cost of one 2011 or Prodigy.

Racing Psychosis

1911 or 2011 - Nope. 40+ oz Prodigy empty, yikes, may should have named it the Brontosaurus. But they stippled the trigger guard. That gun looks more a competition piece. Nope nope. Hellcat - G19 all the way.

Aaron Jones

Completely agree with this review. I was able to shoot a 4.25” Prodigy that had been returned to my local range. The gun had the same disconnecter hang-up that many other reviews have reported. It would make a nice range toy if you’re not afraid to crack it open and tune it up. Thanks another great video!

Glad to see other guns in the market but dam it why can’t gun companies do basic QC & make sure guns run right 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ I’m a machinist and do different parts for many clients and sometimes it’s like can people even read a blueprint and know tool wear… if they get this gun refined & soon they’ll force other 2011 companies to compete on prices for business. Another great review plus Nutn you criticizing shadow systems Glock copies they fixed the trigger , handled a few at my local small gun shop 👌👌👌. Please review the Makerov, PSA Rock 5.7x28 , Sig p365 Marco if possible. Great vids as always

Rick Grad

I’m burned out on guns. It’s sad, because it’s soo fun to get a new gun…but after 20+ years of shooting, the lame ol Glock 17 or Sig P226 is plenty good enough for me. Yea can’t get myself to spend $1,000 + on a handgun anymore. Turning into a Fudd I guess.

I have an interesting story about a Para Ordnance Double stack I used to own. It was an early model made in Canada with the "light double action" trigger which was really nice BTW. I bought it used but in very nice condition, didn't look like a high round count gun. I shot at least 800 rounds through it myself, most likely more, and it was dead nuts reliable. I sold it to my nephew and he put many hundreds of rounds more through it without a single hickup, until he tried to kill himself with it. That day it didn't fire. He still has the round with the primer strike on it. It's chilling to say the least. To this day, that gun hasn't jammed. Just that one "weak primer strike" that I attribute to the fact that Jesus wanted him on the planet a bit longer.

Jason Boyles

If there's ANY noticeable slide wiggle, that's not the issue. I've shot my nephew's Dan Wesson and it has never misfired and it has NO wiggle. Just very properly lapped slides. I'd put my money on a too stiff recoil spring.

the guy you know

This gun has been having bad reviews all over the Internet Really funny that for once everybody in the community is on the same page about this gun

Nicholas Saviano

Gentlemen in the chat, can we band together to put a petition for for Serenity Actual 2023. Real OGs will understand. @everyone

Nice review. I bought a used Springfield Armory Ronin 9mm 1911 and I hit pretty well with that thing. I really enjoy shooting the 1911 platform in 9mm. Nutn, you ever shoot a Magnum Research 1911? My buddy has one and that thing is awesome for the money.

steve fulston

Great video Nutn we thank you for all you do! Could you in the future possibly speak your opinion on the current sig sauer P320 controversy regarding safety. I was reading up on the recent lawsuit by mostly law enforcement officers and military personnel. I thought this was a thing of the past but it sounds like it is still going on https://youtu.be/fozguWQyKBI

Porter3861

"Yikes!" at that price and performance. I'm also a HUGE SA fan as I have 3 of their 1911's and even used a 4" SA Light Weight Compact for CCW for about a year. Also owned two XD's which shot great save for with Russian ammo. Great review Nutn! ("Lube on the camera lens" indeed!)

Harold Galen McPheron

My Colt 1911 XSE Light weight Commander is only 27 ounces, 8 plus one, and I often carry it in Jackass rig with two extra mags, that's enough 45 acp fire power for me...

Bluegill097

Man I want another 1911! Thanks for the vid!

Nutn- You are right, the Gunnies salesman don't know anything about guns.

Brad Fegan

Bummer hate to see a gun have issues from the start. For me, I will pass on it. I am debating about getting a S&W Sheild Plus. I already have 1.0 Sheild Performance Center. I am wondering if anyone has a Sheild Plus Performance Center? If so, was extra cost worth it? I can say I have zero issues with my 1.0 Performance Center trigger or sights. I definitely don't regret getting it.

Jay

Still in love with my EMP 9mm SA. I do switch it out with my Sig P365

John Johnson

I have a Newbie question: I have heard people on the Tube say that modern powders make the .380 a viable defense option, I have heard others say modern powders bridge the effectiveness gap between 9mm and .45 ACP, but I never hear anything about modern powders increasing the effectiveness of the .45?
