Sean and I are in the Bunker debriefing his friend's regrettable crash on the motorcycle. He went down too; both bikes destroyed. His friend Eric had to be airlifted out. As Sean the TNPr talks about, miracles happened which saved Eric's life.

This is a motorcycle safety video, one of many I do, to help keep you proficient in riding and prepped if you ever go down. Wildlife hits are a major threat, totally unpredictable and several of mine are shown in this video.

We also will discuss stupid and then proper moto gear, giving a few examples here. Lots of inset riding video with Sean and I's adventures are shown. Ride frequently, get good/stay good, have good situational awareness, mitigate risks, and prepare for the worst (as it may be out of your hands one day).

Have always loved motorcycles and road a little bit when I was younger, but nowadays I stick to four wheel fun.

I wanna know more about that Rally you got that you haven’t told anyone about 🫠

Khem Time

Me too! I just got one (my first bike) last October. I’m loving it but it definitely has it’s downsides. I wanna know his opinion.

My wife's cousin lost her boyfriend in a motorcycle crash in Las Vegas last week. It's a sad situation. His crash could have been prevented with better judgement and preparation. They were visiting us in Utah a couple of weeks ago. Speed was a factor and he only had a helmet on. He had to be identified by his fingerprints.

Racing Psychosis

Animal threats a real possibility in Wisconsin, Whitetail, Dairy/Beef Cattle, and turkey. I'm not surprised by the steel toe boot injury. My kart racing I run motorcycle leather jacket with D30 armor shoulders and elbows. Always banging an elbow off the engine. I would run full SNELL rated helmets. I'll wear the leather in my racing even in the 100F weather, so many of the kart racing suits are made of the non-abrsasion resistant abrasion resistant materials, that last about 5-10 feet on pavement when you are on your head and shoulder sliding across the pavement. My father is one of those guys that rebuilds motorcycles still at 75+ years old. Right now a 1972 Triumph Bonneville is what he's rebuilding and actually improving with modern brakes and changes to the suspension and front forks.

We show a mechanical amputation from a motorcycle wreck in our Refuge Training Responder 1 class, and have had 2 lives saved after motorcycle wrecks with our kits.

Dang! Get better Eric! This handmade/no power tools star in my profile pic matches your tats and it’s for you dude! Glad you’re ok Sean. Nutnfancy, thanks for fixing the video, no more delays when I rotate my cell phone👍

Bernal

I’ve got rocks in my left knee from a “one more run” dirt bike crash. Getting my free minerals all day, every day!👍

Christopher Davis

Wow, it’s really rare to see someone besides Nutn and Doodle in the Bunker!

Absolutely love your motorcycle content mixed with gun content. I'm a Indiana gunsmith for a pretty popular company in the industry and ride adventure bike to work everyday rain or shine even through Indiana winters. Which aren't the worst but they are great either especially on a bike. Usually average around 18k miles a year on my bike between street and offroad.

I use the same Forma ADV low boots for everything except hard off-road when I wear MX boots. I ride as often as I can and rarely does a week go by that I’m not riding either off-road or on. I carry an Inreach but now you have me considering a flare gun. Turkeys can’t make up their mind! I hate them but deer scare me the most. 10AM is a weird time for a deer collision! Now that I’m out west I just expect to see cows in open country. Back east I had some interesting moose interactions but luckily that ended well for both of us.

The emergency braking talk hit me like a brick. First bike was a 1984 honda XL250R I was 15 took a motorcycle safety course and it saved my life. One day on the way to school a trash truck pulled out in front of me. Went into emergency braking back tire locked up going side to side The dude on the back jumped off because he thought I was going to hit the side. Stopped maybe 2 to 4 feet short of the side of he truck.

CBlaster 1

Did you eat the deer and turkey?

Chase Ferguson

Don’t get me wrong I completely understand why you guys love riding but I have just made the decision to stop. I was just doing the ORM math on it and I can get my thrills in a significantly more safe manner. I mean I almost had a dear kill me on 4 wheels going the exact speed limit so on a bike I would have been gone. Just not worth it. I have a family to take care of. Now with all that said y’all do your thing just not for me.

MSF ( moto safety foundation ) are usually held at your local Tech School/College, and are a way in the door to your 2 wheel license too. I raced 4 years of CCS SuperBikes and SuperTwins, AFTER dirt /street riding fo r over 25: start in the dirt and go from there. Street note: In doing long touring trips or day trips, try to keep your cell phone in your coat. A friend got separated from his bike in a deer crash, compound femur fracture, and he lay on the ditch for a LONG time before someone stopped as his phone was in his tank bag. DIY MSF: put some cones out in a big empty parking lot, do those turning and e-brake drills. Drive on TnPers!

Racing Psychosis

Buddy of mine back in high school hit a dairy cow in Wisconsin on a blind corner, that didn't go well for either. Deer are nutty at times. different buddy that I work with had a full size extended cab and box Chevy pickup, and hit 3 deer in one shot, and seven more piled into the side of the truck, killed 5 in total. absolute carnage.

Racing Psychosis

The racing motorcycles had to be fun, teaches you lots. In kart racing I actually practiced spinouts when I was a kid, definitely has saved me some pain when in some of the bigger pile ups or if you have a failure or get punted on ocassion to know how and what to do ahead of time.

Racing Psychosis

Leather in karting is pretty rare amongst the under 40 years old crowd in the pavement racing segment, they think I'm crazy wearing leather, but I've seen quite a few burn giant holes in their fancy driving suits and/or so-called abrasion resistant racing jackets. And yea my leather is heavy and thick. Better than picking rocks out of my shoulders or elbows.

BadgerTails

Yes, I had to take to the track, took Keith Code's SuperBike School at Road America and was hooked. Down the rabbit hole as I'm sure you are familiar with. That was back in '04-'08, got to know all the Buell factory guys as they ran SuperTwins as well, made some friends for life, showed me how to really focus and succeed at anything.

Downtrodden

That’s insane! Hit a pregnant deer once. That was horrible.

Downtrodden

Anytime I have a friend who wants to learn to ride, I push them toward an MSF class. They all have a great time and I feel a higher level of trust when riding with them. Now that I’ve moved out West, I have some new friends who mainly just bar hop on their cruisers. I must be the noob because I ride with all the gear! No worries, I found some dual sport folks. I frequently switch off between wildly different motorcycle types. A quick spin into an empty parking for a couple drills is a great way to get back on point.

Plumber Angelo

I’m not a motorcyclist (yet hahah), but this was super interesting, great food for thought!

BadgerTails

Yes, MSF is a great resource, the bar is usually not so much learning until well after hours?! ;-)

Andrettski

I was leading on logging road in Oregon Tillamook Burn going about 45mph luckily on a fairly steep incline when a herd of elk crossed in front of me, stopped within 10 ft. We could all feel the ground shaking underneath us, from about 20 elk scattering in all directions. So glad you are ok Sean and your buddy is still alive. To everyone, STAY SAFE.

Scott Dunn

I don’t ride but I off-road. Always good preparation ideas in your content.

Where I live, deer scare me more then traffic. My friends that have wrecked their bikes in the past 10 years, all involved deer. I do agree with you about gear. Gloves, elbows, knees, hips, chest and back, D30 under plastic shells. Tall, ankle reinforced riding boots and snell dot helmet. May not look "cool" or be super comfortable, but at least it gives me a chance if I wreck. It is expensive, but buy once cry once.

Jesse (Sphinx)

Good chat. Deer are always a threat where I ride, but I still place other motorists at the top of my danger list!

TRJ

I have about 12 yrs and 64K miles on sport bikes mostly street sport touring and a few track days. Loved it but I think I’m done riding street. The dirt bug had bitten me. I’m just kinda burnt out with traffic frankly. I’d rather be in a car in traffic and ride mountain trails or fire roads on a dirt bike. So fun to explore uninhibited by traffic.
