Responding to requests from my donors I went hunting for a new pair of legit mountain boots. This is what I found. I was immediately impressed with these Bavarian-made Hanwag Tatra boots (pronounced "hahn vahg"). We are in field with this video, during an actual hike with mountain dog in attendance. I'll show all its impressive features. All together these Tatra GTX boots represent high value. Macie the Mountain dog likes them too! A not-to-be-missed backpacking equipment review in TNP.

I'm down for a boots review 👍Will watch later tonight, thanks.

Boot reviews are something I would not mind seeing more of. A boot shootout would be nice but that would be pretty involved because of the expense and the large amount of time it would take to put many models through many situations. I ended up buying a pair of Meindls 5 years or so ago after being unable to get my hands on a nice US made hunting boot. They have been great but I wish they had a full welt design.

Nice, thanks much for the boot review. I have a great set of winter hunting boots from Danner that I used and abused back in Minnesota. Now that I'm in Tennessee I'm in the market for a lighter weight and marginally cooler option. This definitely looks like a strong contender brand. Keep 'em coming sir.

My first pair of keen targhee boots lasted close to 3 years before the sole wore out. They were being produced in America at the time. Subsequently since they shifted production abroad I’ve been very disappointed in my last three pairs of keen targhee 3 boots. The bottom sole would separate and bubble up from the rest of the boot. The last pair didn’t make 3 months. Shoe goo isn’t an adequate long term solution either. Too bad I like the fit though. Thanks for a future purchase recommendation.

Sweet boots! I have a pair of 5.11 boots that have served me well!

No more disposable boots for us as of nearly 10 years ago. We go 8" tall customs built in Spokane, WA. Built by American craftsmen. All the Pacific Northwest companies are good. Nicks, Whites, JK, Franks, Wesco,... No synthetic liners to wear holes through or give you blisters. All leather uppers including the insoles. Stitched-on Vibram sole. We go with basically a slightly shorter wildland firefighting boot with suede uppers and lowers (suede more abrasion resistant) built on a 55 last. Highly recommend the 55 last which offers built up arch support and a 2" heel. At first will feel like you're walking on a roll of pennies under your arch. But after break-in...AMAZING. Anatomically balances the body weight better, less fatigue, less foot pain on the ball and heel,...Heavy, yes. Serious break-in required, yes. High up front cost, yes. Re-sole about $250 after shipping. Complete rebuild about $325 after shipping. Saves you money in the long run. And use wool or synthetic socks. Cotton is rotten! Love you, Nutn!!!

Love the review Nut'n, thanks. Have to agree with David & Elizabeth though. My last pair of straight up hiking boots were Vasque's featuring glued on soles. Cost at the time (20 years ago) were around $400. After 2 years the soles started separating. Took them to a local cobbler who informed me, since they were glued, nothing could be done. NO MORE GLUE! Since I've bought a pair of Timberlines and Doc Martens both with sewn on soles. Mostly wear them motoing and knocking around. Hiking days seem to be over now...knee. Nevertheless enjoyed the video.

"Hiking days seem to be over now...knee." I hear you on that. Mine's not great but still going for now. Thanks for the good comment William

That would be nice but there's no way I could do a boot shoot out: not enuf donors or viewer support for that. And it would be $$$ for me and lots of time and work. I'd do it if this vid gets million views on the channels. It will get more like 16K in total. Guys just want gun reviews and that's about it.

Love these types of gear reviews. I'm in the market for a new pair of mountain hunting boots. These just made the short list. Thanks.

Josh P.

I love my crispis, hunting, hiking, working comfortable, stable, and waterproof. Great warranty

Harold Galen McPheron

I see your wearing Nike socks, you should try Thor-Lo;s not cheap, but one of the best socks made!!!!

Warren Ruppart

Thanks for the review. I’m actually in the market for some boots in this class, and was looking primarily at Danner. Good to have another option.

I have no firsthand knowledge but have read, or seen videos, that SF, Ranger, and probably other JSOC types do not recommend gore-tex lining even though they spend a lot of time in the wet! Any thoughts or first hand knowledge of that?

Nothing in a 15! Story of my life…

Brendan Ross

I asked and you delivered. Thanks Nutn! And I bought them. I can tell they’ll be just like the Cabalas if not better.

Those are great looking boots. I have been wearing Crispi's they are built very similar. My favorite of the crispi's is the nevada legends. a little lower top than those you have. but I need some like that for colder weather, I have some crispi guides that are very close to those hanwags but they are slightly too small. my left foot has grown slightly in my old age, I dunno how the hell that happens.

Nut'n, this vid makes me realize how much I missed your backpacking/boot/tent/etc. videos! Thanks for posting, hopefully it won't be the last!

Utilitarian products and associated evaluations offer a meaningful impact to an individuals capability more so than glamour products. If you cannot efficiently carry and/or transport the latter product with former, one is left with a room full of gear. Lieutenant Dan knew the score, change your socks and keep your feet dry. Lt. Dan would love these boots. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

Like the boot review... the Hunwag looks a lot like the Crispi Navada. Thanks... keep them coming!!!

Happy to see some footwear review. Did a multi day hike in the Ozarks without boots a month ago, which wore out my running shoes. Been on the hunt for some good boots so thanks for the video!

Great review. Makes me want to get some good hiking boots and get adventuring. Thanks for the inspiration as always Uncle Nutn!

I have a similar pair of boots from a company called Kenetrek that my grandpa bought for hiking/hunting and they were a half size too small for him so he gave them to me and I love them. Check them out as a competitive option.

Nathan P Hubsch

Actually, bought them now. They were 55% off for my size!

Brendan Ross

Almost 6 months in and just as comfy as the cabelas boots and warm too.
