Mrs Nutnfancy and I do heavy tree limb cutting. We had the Silky Bigboy at this location, not much else. I wasn't sure it could handle it. We were surprised that it could and did. Also it had a specific advantage in this cutting over a bow saw.

I have a Big Boy Outback and I really like it a lot. Mostly use it for firewood while car camping, but it's always in the Jeep and I consider it part of the recovery gear when I'm four wheeling. I also carry a smaller Fiskers folding pull cut saw with a little finer teeth for smaller limbing. I think the Big Boy hits its sweet spot on branches roughly upper arm size and bigger. It seems like smaller stuff can get bouncy and tweak the blade more than I'd like if I'm not being careful. It's definitely the most efficient hand saw I've ever used. I don't think there's anything above a Silky except power tools. And I mean chain saws and circular saws, I think I can beat a Sawzall with my Big Boy on branches arm size and larger. I haven't ever had to fell a large tree with it, but I believe I could. And do it safely.

Tree looked great when it was done!

I was just looking at ordering one for my camp kit. Kinda ironic.

I’ve always wanted one but decided to go with the Agawa 15” (similar to the Sawvivor) based off Nutn’s vids. Very interested to hear more if the thinking has changed on the Silky saws. They really seem like a lot of capability with good SAWC.

Would be interested to hear which size guys think is the sweet spot for backpacking. Have a joyful and productive day y’all! ☦️

Love that Sean Williams back track. Thanks for introducing me to him. Awesome tunes.

I went with an Agawa previously as well for one of my kits. Haven't yet had an opportunity to put it to use.

Whew! 90 degrees my brother, 90 degrees, and an inch away from the truck. :) Good video.

Excited to watch this. One of those silkys has been on my wish list for some time. I was thinking about getting the giant one though. This will help me decide for sure…so thanks again!

Todd Strelka

Nice capable saw. Let me get my Milwaukee M18 Fuel chainsaw in there.

I bought the silky 1000 mm saw and wasn’t happy with the saw. The metal on the locking mechanism splayed out from use and no longer locks. It is basically useless and/or dangerous to use in its current condition. I couldn’t find anyone to repair or replace the mechanism.

The name is hilarious.

I was originally going to get something like the agawa. But I like the versatility of the silky saw. But they can buckle and break if you're not paying attention. Really, I need to get both and put some use on them.

hoplite ⚔️

Agreed. Need to get them both and then do some field testing!

I’m a Silky Saw fan. Katana Boy 500mm is my emergency back for large cuts. Big Boy and Pocket Boy are very handy. Value brand to consider is Corona.

I've been packing around my old cheap handsaw on backpacking trips that gets the job done but because of the short blade length has a lot of restrictions, I didn't realize I could have a much larger bladed silky for just a few ounces more of weight. Looks like I need to upgrade.

my biggest concern with buying one of these style blades is the in ability to sharpen them (or in most cases not). my saws tend to get a lot of use when im using them...

Ruben Lopez

Hey Nutn! Does the Apex knife sharpener work with kitchen knife? Thanks!

I love my Silky Saws. I keep the smaller ones in all my packs, especially for hunting. I've mounted my ZUBAT by the sheath to our Ranger's roll bar. Comes in super handy when limbs are in our way on trails.

I bought one of these silky saws about 10 years ago and use it all the time for backpacking and hunting trips for my Kifaru sawtooth that has a wood burning stove in it for cold trips. It's awesome and has held up perfectly over the years. Using it probably on 5-10 trips a year during fall and spring trips.

The PocketBoy fits perfectly in pant cargo pocket when going out for day hike. Good fire potential when combined with belt knife and fire starter.

The pro tree climbers around here use a Silky in a scabbard instead of a small power saw for limbing. I watched that several years ago having a dangerous tree felled. I got the brand and name from the climber and bought one. I no longer feel the need to keep a power saw handy on backwoods roads. In many cases it is better/faster than a Stihl.

I've been using an Agawa Canyon boreal 21 saw and I love it so far.

The Lord loves a working man. Best waste of 8 minutes 54 seconds ever. A very relaxing video to watch. Keep them coming. We love ya too.
