A highly rec'd review, the 24 oz SA Echelon comes to life on tabletop GRV. TD is here and that mean even more detours than usual. But it's fun and we are all here to have that. Then we do get down to reviewing the Echelon and tell you why the internet is NOT wrong on this one ha ha.

This is the company's first polymer frame, striker-fired pistol to be built around a modular design, with a removable serialized chassis trigger group that allows for some frame swap outs (that nobody does). It's built by Croatia by HS Produkt, the same dudes that put together the Hellion https://youtu.be/hbgXfv4MiL4.

We have so many great 9mm bullet launchers, GTW ready, and this is another one. Incorporating some of the best features from other pistols the Echelon gets many things right and breaks new ground (like its innovative no-adaptor-needed red dot mounting system). All the details like its chassis system, Melonite finish, ergos, CHF barrel, sights and more are covered here in TNP fashion...expect some laughs.

We did lots of shooting with this Gunnies loaned sample and the Echelon immediately impressed us. But did it hold up to the curse of the desert and standard TNP hard use and would we buy one?  The competition is fierce and also excellent. Watch from start to finish this GRV for the "thrilling conclusion!"

Hey Nutn, it’s been a while and your vids still don’t disappoint! My brother bought the Echelon probably a month after launch. Soo far it’s a fantastic duty grade gun ! An fingers crossed no magazine issues like a few others on the interwebs lol. I personally think it shoots great, still like my Shadow Systems better but such a solid gun ! Merry Christmas Nutn!

russ

good review, was thinking of picking one of these up for indoor pistol matches but at the price point i think the rival beats it for me. one thing TD did say about red dots is he'll accept them if guys commit to 1000 rounds of training. that's kind of a silly thing to say, you can do dry fire training aiming at doorknobs or lightswitches in your house and get used to red dot presentation very fast. aaron cowan's white paper on red dots has hard data as to the effectiveness of dots on handguns as well. all my carry and comp handguns get dots, and fwiw i shoot single stack in uspsa/pcsl lol

Patreon removed the community section from the website interface now to.. boooo

Thanks Nutn for posting an early morning GRV for me to watch while I'm barfing my lungs out.

BadgerTails

Yup, EVERYthing we put in there is GONE!? SUCK!

BadgerTails

Yes, by weight and price (non-Glock/SIG/HK) I went with the Arex Delta L, Gen2 from the thighs of thick SLovenian womens! No, no pistol RDS for me: it's THAT hunt for the Red Dotober that *REALLY* gets old ...." Oh, you'll get used to it..."?! No thanks, have a Burris FF2 relocated to scope top on an AR, no more of those. It IS cool to see the build evolutions progress into the next gen of our shooters though. I'm just mostly stuck in my G/SIG 2xx pistols/HK USPs to test out more tenifer guns that are more than $500, the Global Ordnance imported Arex was CHEAP, but it's an insane quality pistol. GREAT works fellas, LOVE the bonus SxS footage. Future vid reqs: IR lights, the CA VSKA Tactical full length, ToT III, used Corvette or KTM buyers guide (No, I'm serious)...Merry Christmas, EDC 110% 24/7 into the New Year y'all!

If I was a new gun buyer, this might be at the top of my list. I am already invested in a double stack 9mm line and can't justify moving away from that for most purposes at the moment. The echelon looks awesome, optics ready, great texture, ergos look good. Would want to have a subcompact model to go along side it for carry, but Springfield/HSProdukt (sp?) really knocked it out of the park.

kylenor

Cool pistol. I like collecting polymer frame pistols for some reason so this one's on my list but I'll wait for FDE flavored. I agree on the bullpup weight take btw. It would be really cool to see a lightweight, more cost effective bullpup. It's amazing that other than the Kel-Tec RDB, no bullpups are available new under circa $1800 that I'm aware of.

Mike Y

The question isn’t red dot vs. laser, but which red dot WITH laser. Options man, options.

Moe Mansour

Laser pointers are handy for industrial construction too. Hard to point out which i-beam bolted connection you're referring to when it's 100 ft above you lol.

whiskey papa

My Glock 19 still works great......jesayin.

Doug Richter

Totally disagree Nutn on the grip modules. I have several P320s and P365 that I've swapped the modules out for. It's become popular to throw a Wilson, Icarus, or AXG module on those guns with many folks. The Echelon will follow suit. Love your reviews man!

maxmfs

+1 for the G 19. As for RDS, everybody needs to learn how to shoot irons. That’s what I grew up with, and how I was trained. But, in 2023, just get a duty grade red dot and train. I did a MSP class this past February, and it was worth every cent and then some. Jedi is a master. Once you take his class, you won’t go back. Hunting for the dot is just a lack of training and poor muscle memory.

Racing Psychosis

While a G19 is never the wrong answer, this is not a G19, its more competition for a G17 in my opinion. If I was looking for a full size gun right now, I think this would be it. If I buy a new handgun nowadays, it has to be optics ready. I already learned irons, and one day all of you young guys will get old and may have eye problems, hopefully you don't, but you likely will. optics are game changer. I like the chassis concept, if they comeout with a size change package for the Echelon, I may consider it further. Looks like a great gun, some awesome reviews. A buddy of mine is looking to buy one and sell his Sig M17. If he gets it, I'm definitely going to shoot it.

maxmfs

Please do a TNP special edition of the TOPs Lite Trekker with TNP Blue G-10. That would be sweet!

Hold Fast Joe

Great review! Black tractor? Never seen that before but maybe black makes them invisible

Adam

I will just stick with my Dagger

Porter3861

Another awesome video and love when TD joins you. How about "Little Saint Nick"!? I mean Beach Boys? Christmas? BT Did you guys shoot any Russian 9mm? I've had two XD's (same manufacturer, I believe) and both choked on 2-3 rounds OUT OF FIVE with Russian ammo. Otherwise, great guns. But I've got a ton of Russian 9mm and it's my opinion that modern pistols should be able to shoot steel cased ammo. Please keep the awesome content coming.

The Nutnfancy Project

Affirmative. I reiterate all of this when a highly touted new gun comes along, I say at at the end there

The Nutnfancy Project

A special edition 420 Cat backhoe I believe. They did produce it in that color but more $$

The Nutnfancy Project

That Tulamo stuff has been bad for us. But all of my other steel 9mm ammo has been shot up. Too bad b. it saves me money. Thanks for your kind words too Porter.

Matt W Plank

It is interesting and sad re: POU for this pistol. I own virtually every competitive option you have made to the Echelon and REALLY want this gun. The sad/interesting part is I LOVE my Hellcat Pro and it has taken the place of my Glock 19 for EDC. It has the same rounds count, is slimmer, lighter, and I shoot it better! I just can’t justify the purchase, because I have the HOF’s and the HCP flexes into options and, imo, is just a cut down version of the Echelon.🥲

Andrew H

Thanks Nutn. Cool guns for GRV would be PSA AKP and JAKL.

Paul Kwiatkowski

Merry Christmas to the Clubhouse, and the Nutnfancy Family from the Kwiatkowski Family.

Powernoodle

Peoples, the new Olight Arkfeld Pro is much better than the original. Bigger battery, more output, and combines white light, UV and green laser all in one. Better runtime than the original, and noticeably brighter laser. I can put a laser dot on the wall 5 houses away (in the dark). The Arkfeld Pro is Powernoodle Approved.

Tygre

Great review, team! Enjoyed the action-packed finale.

Bret Smith

To be fair, the 8 ARs are probably half in 5.56, one in .22 LR, and the rest in some combination of 300 BLK and .308.

Cheesewell

Awesome commentary on this video, I want to shoot one of these puppies now! The handgun I'm really interested in at the moment is the Rock Island Armory 5.0E. Thanks for the entertainment Nutin and Doodle.

Bill Whitter

Late to the party here. But agree you need to run 1k rounds through your RDS before you start to figure it out, about 5k + training until you become “unconsciously competent” But if your eyesight ain’t what it used to be, a gift. BTW- Those TNP cadets could have been a little more attractive, from a guy who’s bought numerous TNP knives….and carries an SAK daily (Blade HQ Wolf Super Tinker with Plus Mod single scale) First one in years I didn’t buy. Kind of fugly. The old Blue TNP one? Much better. Hint.

Taylor Smith

I submit the most common reason behind dudes not picking up the dot on presentation is because they aren’t target focused. The key to shooting red dots is focusing on the target. Tape over the front of the optic, spend 10 minutes a day in dry fire (draw to presentation), visually focus on a specific spot on the target- a few weeks later it’ll be second nature. My unsolicited thoughts on the Echelon- I have one for competition and one for duty. I’ve got about 5,000 rounds through the comp gun and 1,000+ through the duty gun. No malfunctions, accuracy is excellent, no breakages or excessive wear. I love this gun. For me it takes the spot as the top striker fired 9mm, followed by the PDP.

BadgerTails

Ditto, but NOW they intro'd the EchComp?! Grrrrrr.....

BadgerTails

YES! and NOW the 4.5" comp/ported unit is OUT! Follow up; can we use the HellCat Pro Xtendo 17 rd mags?
