Hello everybunny! We hope that your February is going wonderfully 🙂
Today we'll make a review of a new tool we recently purchased; a mini iron!
You're probably used to regular clothing irons. But this mini replica can be used for much more when making plushies. It's not essential, but it can help you a lot if you want to use special materials and finishing touches in your projects.
Starting with our case, the idea of buying it came up when we were working on one of our recent comissins, Deidra the kityy. We tried to put whiskers on the plush with black fishing rod. And although the idea worked, there was a problem. The whiskers curled and bended in all directions. We didn't know what else to do, so we decided to do some research and in a video tutorial we saw how the person molded the whiskers with heat to keep their shape. So after a bit more research, we found this mini iron for patchwork. There are different brands and prices, and some look better than ours. But honestly, for what the tool is used for, this economic one will work perfectly.
We bought it and couldn't wait for it to arrive and make some tests. In the photos you can appreciate that we could give a good and natural shake to the whiskers. We loved the result! You have to be very careful not to burn or melt anything with the high heat. We recommend to always use a cloth or towal between the iron and your project to protect it. But just with that precaution, it does its job!
Apart from using it for the whiskers, as you know we recently made Cherry and Bombón, which have pleated skirts. Usually, pleats are made with a regular iron, but that is too big for a plush. So again, the mini iron worked perfectly for this technique :D Something that would have been super difficult or even impossible to make with a regular iron. And not only for ironing pleats, you can use this iron for any clothing or details in your plushies. In fact, the secret plush we're working on wears a shirt, and the mini iron worked great to make the collar, when it's usually a horror to get in the right shape...
We can confirm that this mini iron doest it's job perfectly. Both to replace a regular iron for plush clothes or for using it as a heating source. You just need to be careful when using it. Here's the link to the one we bought.https://www.amazon.es/dp/B00IVXHA9W?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title
If you want to get more into making plushies, specially with clothes and flat pieces or whiskers, it's a tool you will use!
Finally, remember that today we're having a new plushmaking class!
----ESPAÑOL----
Hello everybunny!
