I've been becoming increasingly worried about what I think are the signs of an upcoming international debt crisis in low-income countries, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. The short version of this story is that the money given to the banks by quantitative easing was used to fund predatory loans to struggling countries. Almost a decade later it seems the debt cannot be repaid and another crisis looms. Because of this I figured it was as good a time as ever to reinvestigate the role of debt in capitalism. I've selected this excerpt from The Laura Flanders Show, a discussion between David Harvey, Alexander Cockburn.

While you may be familiar with David Harvey, you may not know Alexander Cockburn. Alexander Cockburn was a writer and radical who had a column for years at The Nation and founded Counterpunch. As a radical he was regularly challenging not only those in power but also the peculiar traps that the American left falls into. Alexander was a punchy writer who never missed an opportunity to humiliate the cheap salesman on the right, here is a spirited essay that asks some important questions about Bill O'Reilly's loofa.

Qaysar

Alexander Cockburn is also the brother of Patrick Cockburn, one of the best middle east journalists ever. The whole cockburn family is interesting if you look them up.

Dark Alliance

I definitely know who Cockburn is but no idea who Harvey is.
