How much of Trump's approach on trade is motivated by actual ideological commitments, and how much of it is simply a shakedown scheme in service of the Trump organization? In Trump's case, the guy doesn't appear to ever act with any sense of national interest beyond what is good for him and his family personally in the very short-term. e.g. thinking specifically of the odd way that his administration handled the ZTE phone issue with China.
