***Note: the interview is in Italian, but the translation available through youtube, is good enough. There is a link to an English translation from the Crisis and Critique website available here. ***

Louis Althusser was one of the most important Marxist philosophers, certainly in France. He was a teacher to many of the greats and his work "For Marx" is indispensable for an understanding of Marxism. Althusser also contributed to Marxism through his work on ideology and its role in the reproduction of the capitalist system.

In this rare interview Althusser is asked about a range of topics from Catholicism to Communism. During this interview Althusser talks about the concept of overdetermination, an important idea that is not utilized enough in political analysis.

For further reading by Althusser his work "Marxism and Humanism" is available on Marxists.org along with other works.
