Brooksey hits a home run on skepticism. It totally is a second order concern. Maybe even third order, but still highly important. If you do not have a moral basis, or if your moral base is flawed and misanthropic, then all the skepticism in the world will not help you build a just and sustainable political economy. Empiricism is great if you have solid data. If you have a screed of bullshit data and even more bullshit theory (like most (all?) neoclassical econ textbooks) then empiricism will lead you into immorality and banal injustices that are completely avoidable if you have a decent humanist or spiritual moral outlook, rather than a pseudo-scientific paleo-darwinist view of the world like many skeptics I have come across.
