@26:50 Job Guarantee programs can be what you make of them. No reason on earth why if you want to be with your kids you cannot do so on a JG scheme. The proper idea is to not only use government programs (like green energy infrastructure) but to also allow people to apply for a JG income doing work they love, and even equip people to do so. It is a waste of human potential to hand out UBI money or otherwise dehumanize people by telling them looking after their children or beautifying nature is not a useful social job. If you EXPAND the meaning of WORK then there is no downside to a JG program. It just has to be motivated though by people's love of crafts and occupations and must allow people to apply for the JG program doing what they LOVE (if it is legal and socially useful). Only potential downside is if it is run by neoliberal technocrats or conservative puritans who think in terms of forcing people to work (in which case a UBI would be far more humane, even though more dehumanizing than a JG and more socially isolationist) .

Also, needs to be said the jump in wages & prices from a JG implementation is not inflationary, it is a one-time jump, while inflation is by definition a continuous devaluing. If the caller is still dubious, I'd recommend they look at the research by Pavlina Tcherneva and Randell Wray. They've shown a JG scheme is mildly deflationary long term. Matt's analysis of the Mitt situation is valid, just needs the addition that a person like Romney is all about shallow appearances, he wants justice (no saliva on cake) to be seen to be done, but does not actually give a f__k in reality.
