Great cold opening clip and Brooksy commentary. Incredibly tragic the vital second revolution in South Africa never got off the ground. I think it's a warning to contemporary leftist progressives. Mandela did not understand monetary economics and so swallowed the neolib econ promises, which were profoundly hollow. The Sanders/socialist wing in the USA will suffer similar mistakes if they do not understand how government deficits should be used. I worry they still believe the conservative neoclassical hype that "taxes pay for things" which is just completely false. Taxes keep inflation under wraps if used correctly and redistribute wealth if used correctly, and taxes make the dollar valuable, but that's about it. I'd LOVE to hear Bernie, Warren and AOC start directly refuting the idea higher taxes are needed for things like free education, free healthcare and a Green New Deal. For those things, you just need resources and people, not money. The money is ALWAYS available when it is Federally funded.

Damn. Ease up on the scientists Brooksy. I think you need to make friends with a few good scientists, and give up your prejudices. (I do appreciate you might be trolling for nerds like me, but damn, you got me!)

I think the Dems are so one dimensional with black voters because the black vote is a monolith. It’s actually incredibly monolithic. More so than any other group. Maybe that’s changing now?

Why don’t you need taxes to pay for things? Don’t counties who print too much money fall victim to hyperinflation? Seems pretty risky to stake everything one MMT which isn’t exactly widely excepted. I could be wrong
