@53min comment from Maria. Best way to educate a friend about this is to respond by asking them if they are aware what Trump was criticizing WaPo for, and what Bernie was criticizing them for. Or set up the accurate framing by asking them if they think criticism of a service provider, say a fast food restaurant, for (a) shooting their customers, is the same or can be remotely compared to say (b) the same service advertising false prices. Just to point out two criticisms of an entity need not be remotely the same in validity or motive. I'm sure you can then guide your friend to realise Trump's criticisms of WaPo were about excessive coverage of his flaws, whereas Bernie's was mainly lack of coverage of Bernies' policies. Some folks might find that a hard distinction to make, but a few examples would I think show anyone the gulf of difference. Main take-away is be comfortable getting into nuances, but without obfuscating the reality.
