Excellent postgame, hope Michael is doing alright.

Great episode! Was struck by something, though, towards the Alexander Cockburn segment. Michael says something to the effect that he has no idea why anybody would choose homogeneity over a broad diverse society. I realize he's speaking in a national context, but what about places where maintaining some kind of social/cultural stability or coherence---necessarily implying homogeneity of some kind---is inherently bound up with political resistance (e.g. indigenous groups)? Even in other (ethnically) homogenous communities where there isn't that kind of struggle going on...lots of people stay because they need to care for people or simply love their place. Are such people therefore to be understood as having chosen benightedness, as being deprived in some way?

Also, on the wonderful Mark Blyth, for anyone interested the lecture shown in the episode is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGuaoARJYU0 When you started playing it I was hoping you'd engage with his take on Britain's post-Brexit prospects...He seems far less dour than what I've heard on TMBS. Later in that Q&A session he also says the thinks Trump's going to win again. (if you want some shades of debate, ask him about the tensions he sees in the left's vision of belonging and immigration). Hope you do have him on again soon!

Ellen meant she only hates fur when indigenous seal hunters produce fur. Natives have been sustainably hunting seals for thousands of years and Ellen spent a lot of her own money to make it illegal for natives to hunt seals. This completely ruining their means of providing for their families. Look it up please

Great show, but would like to hear Michael expand on his reservations about AOC. I was confused by the comparison to Obama. I mean, in terms of inspirational qualities I get it, but in terms of politics, she's way to Obama's left, which I am totally down with. What did I miss?

TMBS

first and foremost her lack of support for Bernie and her very shaky fp, sort of looks like a new brand for makeover neoliberalism in someways. of course good polices too!

Micheal is the first gif to pop up for, "left is best" on FB.
