I'm working with a project in Austin to repeal Chapter 143 status for Austin police. This is Texas municipal code that gives the police union sweeping power to prevent accountability for cops who brutalize people. Under 143, They can seal police records and force the city to jump through absurd hoops to suspend or fire cops and ultimately overturn any disciplinary action taken against a cop through binding arbitration conducted by a network of pro-cop lawyers and judges. Now that the city has cut the police budget, it's time to shut down the key mechanism that keeps killer cops on the force.
