Development began with Zaphryon designing the main cast of characters, Basem_S1 painting backdrop illustrations, and TennesseeFlores composing theme music tracks. Halfway through the first year, we brought on YeMcBear to draw background crowds of convention attendees to fill the backdrops.

I don't know what our final harem will be, but I'm loving secretly insecure/self-sacrificing Kelly. Also Emily's concern and quiet bravery? Top notch.

ZeroCross

I love how much personality bleeds through from simple interactions when you write. We get Kelly's sadistic amusement and Emily's nervous anxiety.

David Spencer

Are you kidding about a full rewrite? It just needs some cleanup. If you want suggestions you could loose the mustard part and the description of Kelly, etc, it feels unnecessary. Write the whole chapter almost purely from Emily's perspective. You could also expand her description of Kelly and really build the suspense etc. If you want to explain how Kelly appears from nowhere you could have her describe it to the group later on, that could be funny. If she is giving Emily the key she can do it with no explanation and just disappear again.

Come on guys, dont make us bail on all the characters getting introduced for an Emily flashback chapter. Vote for the afterparty or 18+ lol. Fun chapter though I love her thinking Kelly is a vampire or something.

CJ Mora

I liked this segment...it adds a little macabre and gives it the feel of an actual anime episode. You just gotta figure out how to reel it back into the regular story without losing its character.

Really like it alot! It shows Kelly's sly sense of humor too. Thought it was nicely done with the setup & atmosphere & timing

Michael Zieher

I'd see it in part 7 between [...] I want… to be your girlfriend.” [...] and [...] “You want to go out with me?” Brian asked, a little surprised himself. [...] Adds more tension here ;)

Jonas Blake

Oh man, this snippet is so good! I love the description of Kelly from Emily's point of view...just perfect! :D

FortySixtyFour

Overall, I think this is shaping up to be the best Kelly chapter.

FortySixtyFour

Thank you. I felt that for the chapter to really feel true to Kelly, she couldn't be listless and despondent about her situation/leaving behind her sister, so we needed some more of the Kelly who likes bullying cute girls to balance things out.

FortySixtyFour

I thought the cleaning off the mustard part was necessary to understand why Kelly lingered behind there even after Chloe had already fled the scene. I was (and still am) tempted to try it all in Emily's POV, but it might be hard for readers to follow Kelly putting the situation together in her mind so she can act on it.

FortySixtyFour

I just worry it's not believable enough for AnimeCon. Emily would definitely get spooked at a beautiful and terrifying girl who appeared out of thin air and seemed to know everything about her, but I might have exaggerated the effect too much.

FortySixtyFour

I know where I want to place the segments, but it'll need some adjusting so that it's not too jarring in tone.

FortySixtyFour

Thank you! If I keep this without rewriting it completely, I may trim out some of the Emily frustrated and searching so that it doesn't seem to drag on for readers. And tone down Emily's exaggerated reaction at seeing Kelly, probably.

FortySixtyFour

The segment here is going to be split up into several parts, and while I know where I'd like to put it, that might change after I've rewritten or revised it a bit, so I'm holding off on integrating it for now.

Jonas Blake

I mean, it is exaggerated, but I think it works really well. I feel like you are going for...let's call it a tint of anime to the whole story, right? Like it's not exactly bland realism, there is little anime flavor over the whole thing, starting right off with the initial meeting of Brian and Steph. And in this particular case, Emily is at a con, and in a extra emotional state, and in a dark garage... so it works. If she keeps thinking she a demon or something later, that would be weird, but for an initial impression it's really good.

Jonas Blake

Also, I really like seeing characters that I am familiar with from a new person's point of view. I think it brings depth to the character - like it reminds me what they look like to the world, as opposed to what they look like to me the reader, who has been inside their head. And this scene does a really good job of that for Kelly.

Foxy

Only issue i can see with it is the line " Emily jumped several feet into the air " because thats a bit much to ask for anyone, let alone a girl her size. it was the only thing immersion breaking about the story as far as i can tell. Otherwise, quality stuff, keep doing you man.

ZeroCross

If you want to trim it, the Emily search part feel authentic but brings indeed very little compared to the rest. As for the exaggerated reaction to Kelly, I personally love it. It's hilarious and I can totally see that being Kelly's intent. On the other hand, it portrays Emily has a very emotional and easily flustered character, a less naive and more confident version of Steph. I personally like it, but whether you tone it down or not depends of how much that's a reaction faithful to the Emily in your head.

HornsOfTheseus

It is very out there but makes sense considering it comes from a character who has regular fantasies that her best friend will turn into a tentacle monster and have his way with her.. Plus the entire scene is hilarious.

Kimu Taka

I think it worked with the jump between Em to Kelly and back to Em. For one, we get the excellent characterization of Emily mental state and then we get the joy of seeing that Kelly put the pieces together to figure uot who Emily actually IS. I can agree, there might be some better reason for Kelly to stick around other than cleaning her hands; maybe she's still standing around because she's still trying to overcome her family issues or something a bit more on the emotional side. Checking her phone, waiting on something or trying to decide if she wanted to say something. I'm sure that there is a part of her that is a bit torn up after her previous meeting with her sister, so that could work to keep her around just long enough for the fateful meeting with Emily.

David Spencer

I was thinking that if you take the Kelly section out then her sudden appearance is a surprise to both Emily and the reader. The explanation of why she was still there and how she managed to surprise Emily could then be a good hook at the start of the next chapter from Kelly's perspective? In that context the Mustard explanation is fine.

Kimu Taka

That could work well, especially if you take away any visible appearance of her from Emily's point of view. Heck, you could later say that she was just off to a side, behind a piller so emily didn't initially see her. Upon hearing someone calling out for "Brian", was enough for her to continue hiding and observe before acting.

Jedi Khan

For not being in the zone, that was still pretty good. Maybe your zone has expanded and you just don't know it yet?

Robert E. Poole

First I really like this. I like Emily's frustrating frantic searching for Brian. The way I am seeing this is Emily is the catalyst for everything. She is the one that set the theme for the magic of the charm. So her getting to the con and kind of entering the mind set of an anime character(the jumping several feet, rational person taking Kelly for an 'otherworldly femme fatale') just adds to what is happening to all those involved. Great job!
