So this was Section 10, Shot 6! One of our first major obstacles building out this video was figuring out how to sync our project files together, since background and character artists were often working on the same shot at the same time.

Here you can see the original boards done by Wisp, which were then passed to June for redlining. While this was happening, we asked Fire to do the Artist Alley Background- which he absolutely nailed! It turned out goorrrgeous!! Everyone did such an amazing job. However, this is where we started running into some real production problems, namely the following:

1. We didn't tie down our perspective or horizon lines in the storyboarding stage

2. We didn't sync our background file before having someone ink over June's redlines

In our previous videos, character free-floating in a void has never been a problem, because the boards are usually meant to be short and silly. They're also almost always sketched, inked, and colored by one artist rather than several. This time though, we had multiple people working on each shot. The amount of planning and co-ordination to ensure a single shot goes smoothly is actually kinda nuts.

So! Since there were no perspective guidelines to follow when Fire did the original background, and the characters were inked in a file seperate from the finished BG- putting them all together at the very end made for a very congested composition, with really whack scale and perspective. Wisp was huuuge compared to the NPCs!!!

Fortunately, we had enough time to correct it, and Kaden ended up fixing the character scale and perspective issues during the final coloring stage. Sam also stepped in to create .PSD master files for each section, along with an organized spreadsheet to ensure future shots went more smoothly.

We learned SO much from these mistakes, we're so incredibly proud of our staff for scaling such a huge learning curve and in the end, each shot turned out amazing!
