Tip for the peel and stick tiles, some tiles are really hard to remove due to the glue but I have seen people do a layer of painters tape on the original wall/tiles first and then sticking the tiles to the peel and stick :)

I get Rae's feelings, and it's probably meant partially in jest, but saying people deserve the death penalty is just not something I want to let pass quietly. The justice system's fucked up enough as is, can you imagine how bad it would be if anyone you can label a pedophile can be executed? Better to just let molesters rot in prison for life. An extremely common line of attack against queer and trans people is to call them groomers/pedos. If you have the ability to execute pedophiles, and you can convince enough people trans and gay people are inherently pedos, well... Not to mention the number of innocent people who are already executed (or luckily exonerated on death row!) is way too high. I just wanted to say this because it feels like a very real threat to trans and queer people in our current political environment. I love Rae but I wish she would reconsider saying things like that. <3 and love the podcast!

At the same time I appreciate you acknowledging how "grooming" is used against the LGBTQ+ community in a horrible (and quite frankly ironic) way. I find it weird however to spin her saying "pedophiles deserve the death penalty" into anything other than "pedophiles deserve harsher punisments". Also worth mentioning, guaranteed death penalty will result in less reporting from victims. The vast majority of CSA is committed by family members and it's messed up, but many people would have a hard time essentially killing their dad/mom/sibling. Even if they suffered because of them.

Wow. Thank you for sharing, about all kinds of topics. When you talked about complicated grief, I started thinking about the specifics of grieving someone you never got the chance to come out to and now you have regrets but you also have to live with never knowing for sure if they would have still loved you. And when you talked about being a kid and not talking about it, I had to think of the disconnect between what you perceive as a child and what gets taken seriously or even literally by adults. You learn so young not to bother people and that your problems and your perception of them aren't real, even if your silly fears are just manifestations of bigger things you cannot comprehend yet. That's a lot to unpack before taking responsibility for children of your own. I had to think of something Molly Burke shared about her childhood: She was born legally blind and fully night blind, so she didn't like going out at night. Her parents asked her why and she replied: "Because I can't see." So they patiently explained to her that that's not true, that you can see a little less at night but you can still get around safely, to make her feel better. For 99% of kids, that's helpful, at least a little. For her, it was gaslighting. Growing up is so tough, I'm amazed that we all did it. Lots of love to both of you and whoever needs it!

It's just a line of comment I hear relatively commonly, one that I think is well-intentioned but dangerous, and one I want to push back on a bit in case anyone hadn't considered that angle! I didn't mean to imply Rae was being anti-lgbtq or anything like that, just that she likely hadn't fully thought out the consequences of the death penalty and was probably just making an off-the-cuff comment about hating child molesters, which I'm fully behind! I just want people listening (and her, if she does read this) to understand that the literal thing she said (deserving the death penalty) is likely not the best way to do the figurative thing she said (punish child molesters further), because of knock-on effects they may not have thought of.

The private part conversation isn’t that hard of a conversation to have with kids. I had it my kids when they were old enough to understand. The larger overarching conversation that we’ve really been trying to keep up is around consent. Nobody gets to touch your body without your permission and you’re not allowed to touch anybody else’s body without their permission. We modeled it with hugs with family early where if they felt like giving a hug to someone they were more than welcome to, but we always made sure that they knew that they were always allowed to decline even if the wanted to previously.

yeah, I’m anti-capital punishment across the board - I absolutely appreciate the sentiment and think that there ARE people who don’t deserve to live because of crimes they have committed, BUT there are so many flaws in our justice system, innocent people HAVE been put to death. I just don’t agree with imperfect humans arbitrarily deciding to take another humans life. I don’t feel it has a place in a civilized society. Typically the death penalty also costs more than housing someone in prison for life, due to a number of factors. To me, if there’s a chance of even one single innocent person being put to death then it is not worth it to have it in place.

I know this maybe is not the most important thing to focus on, considering the majority of the topics covered, but another note on the olympics. Not only did the bronze medalist (Sturla Holm Laegreid) suddenly confess to cheating on his ex and made a whole speech in the hopes of getting back with her, notably after not telling her for about 3 months about his infidelity, but he also ruined a very important moment for his teammate. The gold medalist Johan-Olav Botn, who is also from Norway, dedicated his win of the gold to Sivert Guttorm Bakken, another Norwegian biathlon skier (so teammate to them both) who was found dead in his hotel room (by Botn who considered him a good friend) at their training camp just 2 months earlier (right before Christmas). On top of this this dedication (which he announced by shouting Bakken's name as he crossed the finish line), Botn's win comes after battling with a heart condition that he got diagnosed with in 2022 that has caused him to take some time off before. It definitely was very awful timing and made additionaly worse in a news conference following where he said he hoped it had not ruined Botn's day but stood by his choice. I thought that part should be added cuz it definitely made the whole cheating confession seem many times worse in my eyes as he clearly was only thinking about himself in that moment. On a lighter note, please look up "penis-gate" for the ski jump competition. Nothing is confirmed but there have been rumors on some athletes injecting their 'packages' to improve performance (something about increase in surface area).

I just realised I have a comedian recommendation: Kylie Vincent! She has done Netflix is a Joke before, but I don't know if she's there again this year. She is currently LA based, though. She very openly talks about her trauma, including CSA, and has a very similar sense of humour as QT about it. She has a podcast called Trauma Queen where that gets to shine. She also has a special on YouTube called Bird specifically about her childhood trauma and is, like all comedians today, posting clips on Instagram. She took a hit there though last year because she came forward about another comedian and then got hate reported and had her first account deleted, so everyone who wants to follow her, please do! I don't know if you'd want her as a guest, go on her podcast or maybe just attend a show or give a follow, but I feel like you'd like her.

Hi there QT, i really doubt you will see this, but I just wanted to say, I am a long time fan, but recently subbed to the patreon, and just watched this extended verison, when you talked about your trauma with molesting and how he now has a kid and etc. If you feel like you need to do something, you can absolutely call the local police or even the local child protection agency and give a tip for a child predator and they will investigate him and the family to make sure the kids are safe and he will be put on the list. I am so deeply sorry you are holding this on your shoulders. much love xo
