The image above is from the Portland event I played on March 8th, 2024, at the Atlantis Lounge. I have so much to say about playing shows that I talked about it for 1.5 hours straight. So, I'll break down what I discuss:

What to think about when picking gear.

How to get booked.

Why are we doing live hardware shows?

Good show etiquette.

My personal journey into hardware and why I do this.

I touch on much more than this, but I think these points generally sum up what this video conveys. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Questions for you: Why are you playing with live hardware? Do you want to play shows?

Best,

Matt

I came from a a live show background playing in bands, so when I got into electronic music my sole purpose in buying gear was to perform live with it. Thankfully I have started to get more gigs in the last couple of years. I very much appreciate your Octatrack performance template as it’s made my shows so much more professional sounding. Thanks!

Another great video Matt. Very inspiring stuff! Very helpful for those of us trying to find our footing in hardware based electronic music.

First off, another awesome video Matt, thank you! Also what’s the best way to hear about your live shows? I am so bummed to miss on seeing you in PDX. I need to get up to Seattle more often too.

I do need to do something about this!

I used to use software to make music years ago, but eventually got really tired of it. For me the hardware is more inspiring, more of a direct connection to what you're doing, and less tedious, and also much less problematic with computer errors/neverending troubleshooting... only to have something else go wrong later on. I might be too old and disgruntled now to use a Windows PC much longer without throwing it down into a volcano... but I am currently using it to record. I can also do things with hardware that I couldn't with software. I hadn't really considered playing any shows. I just like creating/recording music. It's an inspiring video though!

I would love to see you at a show!

I have not but I would absolutely love to.
