I think I have found a workflow on the A4 that is very similar to having the Octatrack around. If you set the performance macros up like track mutes (or mute groups) you can edit your patterns ahead of time to have the macros turned up enabling a "mute group." Once you transition to the new pattern that group of tracks will be muted by the performance macro and you can just pull the macro/volume up - rather instantly if you don't want to fade it in (even though it's classy as hell). I always knew about using KITS as a way to make pattern mutes work on the MK2 devices but this is just way easier, more dynamic, and smoother in my opinion.

The A4 as a whole is a great 4 voice synth but to truly hear how good it sounds you really need to put it into poly mode.. the paraphonic voices are good but nothing compared to the actual full 4 voices in poly mode.  I suggest sampling some chords into your sampler, then using the 4 tracks for plucks, a bassline, noise/risers, and a crazy lead.

Elektron Analog Four MKII Solo Performance

In this video resident expert Matthew Piecora (aka EZBOT) performs on the Analog Four MKII by Elektron. Four synth tracks and an intuitive step sequencer enable you to easily create and layer melodies. Then play back your composition and immediately reshape it. Change notes, alter sounds, add effects. Make it as glistening and airy or dark and dense as you desire. Something beautifully unique will emerge every single time. Not only a splendid synthesizer, the Analog Four MKII can also make other gear sing. Thanks to the CV/Gate sequencing and DIN sync outputs, external analog gear can be controlled in great detail. Make any modular or vintage synthesizer rig come truly alive.
