I have mapped 1/4 parts to the SHIK so far and I should have the rest finished very soon. This will allow you to use Performance Template scenes with additional controls. For example you will be able to bring in a dark reverb while using a high pass filter scene or add delay to an existing effect. You can tweak the master filter without having to going into the master track or use a scene. Add sidechain pumping without having to use a scene or dig around to select track 4 and adjust the LFO.

This integration will work with any MIDI controller as I will provide the selected CC's for your own personal mappings however I will be releasing the SHIK file with the template for immediate integration.

I chose the SHIK for it's aesthetic and moderate affordability. SHIK has the option for 2 part macro controls which I am using to make small but powerful new scenes that will only be available via SHIK.

The NEW Techno template will also have full SHIK integration but that template has been delayed. I keep going back and forth over the 4 bar or 8 bar looper. I think I am going to stick with the 4 bar looper as it requires much less preparation. The 8 bar looper would use TWO presses and require you to pay close attention to your loops as opposed to being able to rely on simply hitting the YES button and having the work done for you.

Love to hear your thoughts,

-Matt

massive!!!

Can this midi map be used in the Midi Fighter Twister? I love it when it teams up with the octatrack, a very versatile controller, but I'm curious what you mention about the option for 2 part macro controls and the micro scenes, this sounds great!! Happy Friday Matt.

Cool... I've been trying to decide on a smaller desktop controller device, not as small and antsy as the nanokorgs, and not as metallic and bulldozery as my bassist's old Behringer BCF2000... for now I've programmed the OT slider into a CV pedal out of my Boss FC50, works great with both hands on a guitar... Previously had it working with my VG99's FC300, but that amazing pedalboard weighs in at more than all my synths put together... not road friendly at all! Great news about Template 2.3, I've just started getting head around 2.2! Suffering, but loving it...

This is an excellent direction Matt! The more hands-on we can make the OT, the better. As we talked about this week, the OT seems to have so much power. But as a beginner, it is really hard to know how to learn it without messing stuff up. I'm eager to see this new MIDI controller demonstrated and how it can enhance a live performance.

Todd Powers

Looks like a great midi controller.

ezbot

Yes, it will just take a bit of work.

ezbot

Very cool use of your pedal with the OT, I haven’t tried that.

ezbot

Thank you Adam!

This looks dope, I'm looking forward to it. I use a Faderfox EC4 with my OT so I'm sure it will be very useful. In regards to 8 bar loops instead of 4 bar loops, do you have a resource that gives some hints about how I might be able to do this on my own in the performance mixer? I would love to have two different versions, as I often find myself writing 8 bar phrases. I spent a few hours on it last week and just couldn't make it work.

Abbottobba

OK I think you might have explained my problems in your post already. So if I wanted to record 8 bar loops, the two button presses you mention are a second to stop recording? I thought I would be able to get around this by changing the master pattern length and track lengths and then the recording trigs/arming of tracks would work the same but this isn't the case?

Oh neat. I have an Elektra One coming in May which I hope this might prove useful for

HystericSubjects - msiers

following up on "the 4 bar or 8 bar looper. I think I am going to stick with the 4 bar looper as it requires much less preparation. The 8 bar looper would use TWO presses and require you to pay close attention to your loops as opposed to being able to rely on simply hitting the YES button and having the work done for you.": what about (newb q) setting down Recording trigs at every X intervals you want the recording / loop to do it's thang? Not saying it's possible or the best solution...matter of fact, ignore me. It's stupid. Each loop is going to arbitrarily be what it is, and the user deciding what to loop and when.

ezbot

I think I am going to stick with the 4 bar looper :)

Frej Moström

Got the faderfox EC4 because it has endless knobs and digital display. Should be able to get feedback information on where the knobs are at the moment and not have to fetch them if changed on the octatrack right?

ezbot

I have an EC-4 but i havent tried the two way communication with it yet

ezbot

I suppose I could do two versions but I think the 8 bare version wont be used much after youve tried it for a while

Frej Moström

The EC4 is supposed to be bidirectional, Do you know if you need to use double midi cables for this to work? To go somehow go via the midi out from the octa to update the ec4, or is the midi function able to grasp any kind of information from the octatrack via the output? I´ve only actually used usb driven midi this way before where there is bidirectional updating of information. Also, on another note, there was just now a update of the octatrack where there was some bug fixes and so on, is there any way for us to send your wishlist for updates to elektron and get them to notice it? I would really really like to have more complicated scale functions on the midi pages. And that should be one of the most basic functions to implement due to it already is used in other machines.

Hi there - is it possible to still download this? I don't see it anywhere? Thanks

ezbot

Yes absolutely. Patreon won’t let me pin more than one post, check the Ultimate FX post that’s pinned, it’s a available to download there. Or you can use the search menu and type in performance Template, it should show up.

Glasside

Thanks so much for replying so quickly (and for the template obviously!)

I have a Livid Instruments CNTRL:r & I would really like to revive this awesome controller, however it has some limitations like the discontinued support & also it can only handle a single midi channel for all the controls (with a "renegade mode" where you can change between 4 presets, giving me the chance to control 4 midi channels). Since every track on elektron boxes has it's own midi channel, I was thinking about autochannel mapping, do you think this mapping you prepared is suitable for this device? Thanks in advice!

Philippe Palmieri

Hi, I have an Electra One, is there a chart for the midi mapping you did for the Shik @ezbot? Many thanks

ezbot

I don't have that currently but I am planning to add another SHIK template to my current group of templates. I will include a CC sheet when I do.
