GETTING STARTED:

Video tutorial and demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5m4pvtP-o8I

All Banks and Patterns are populated with the Ultimate Octatrack FX Template x.x at a default tempo of 120 BPM and a pattern sale of 64 steps (4 bars).

***Clicks and pops can be caused by unstable BPM from external clocking sources. To avoid this use a stable clocking source such as the Octatarack itself.

***Audio MIDI Channels are disabled by default.

- Effects with an asterisk have FREEZE delays.

- "ALL" refers to effects that effect the entire mix with the same effect on both inputs A/B and C/D.

RECORDING LOOPS: To initiate a full recording press YES. Both recording buffers will initiate recordings at the beginning of 4 bars or step 1/64. Crossfade quickly into recorder scenes.

- To record on only A/B Press Track 4 + YES, a recording will start at the beginning of 4 bars or step 1/64.

- To record on only C/D Press Track 8 + YES, a recording will start at the beginning of 4 bars or step 1/64.

- All recordings are recorded at unity gain.

TO SAVE A RECORDING TO FILE: Press FUNC + REC 3 and choose "Save This Recording". This is useful for creating stems to save and use in other projects or to transfer to your computer.

COMPRESSORS: Separate compressors are available on both stereo input sets A/B and C/D. By default, they apply mild tasteful compression to your whole mix. To set custom compressor values for each pattern, lock the compressor effect parameters on the first step of Track 1 and Track 5 within each pattern.

SIDECHAIN PUMPING: Sidechain pumping is available on all patterns and all parts. By default the pattern is 4 on the floor. To use the sidechain pumping effect turn up LFO 1 depth on Track 5. To adjust where the ducking occurs copy and paste the BRIGHT GREEN TRIGS on Track 5. You can externally trigger SIDECHAIN PUMPING by sending a MIDI note to CHANNEL 5 on the Octatrack.

STUTTER FX: FREEZE DELAYS are available separately on Tracks 1 and 5. To use the the FREEZE DELAY hold FUNC + DOWN ARROW and select DELAY CONTROL. GREEN button 9 controls the FREEZE DELAY for inputs A/B and GREEN button 13 controls the freeze delay for inputs C/D. Press 9 + 13 to FREEZE the entire mix. FREEZE DELAYS occur before effects are applied so you can hold a frozen buffer and then apply effects.

RECORD STACKING TRICK:

Press YES to start a recording of both inputs.

Perform on either the A/B side or the C/D side by adjusting parameters or playing new notes.

After that, crossfade to the scene that reflects those changes. If you were on the A/B side, crossfade to scene 14; if you were on the C/D side, crossfade to scene 15.

Once you've done this, select the side you haven't recorded on by highlighting the Track that records the opposite input. If you recorded on A/B, highlight Track 8; for C/D, highlight track 4.

Now prepare to play something on the machines you haven't recorded on and press REC 3.

At the beginning of the next 4 bars, the recording will start.

After you have finished recording, switch to scene 16. Your crossfader should already be fully engaged since you started on either scene 14 or 15.

Simon Maizels

This is fantastic! Great livestream earlier too. Thanks!

12or14

Hah! Guess I'm not 'working' today then! Weheeeee

Toff.Chunks

not try it yet BUT BIG THANK to YOU for ALL AGAIN!!! Congrats))))

Jeroen

Excited to try this out, recently joined your Patreon so great timing! I use your templates in OT studio mode, and separate the outputs A/B and C/D to pass the rhythm side and melodic side separately to different channels on my DJ mixer for further EQ and effects. So in this template I'd turn up the main level to max on T1-4, and to min on T5-6 and turn Cue volume on those tracks to max instead. Does that makes sense? Any thoughts on comments on splitting the outputs like that with your template?

NoisioN

Thanks for this! A few questions: 1. What are “Audio MIDI” channels? Can’t seem to find that term in the manual. 2. Are filter fx 9 and 10 “All” on only Part 1? 3. If an fx is not listed as “All” is there a rule or method as to what tracks are effected? 4. Can I easily use or convert this to use in standalone mode by not using any external gear? 5. Would you please let us know the differences between this and your other template(s)? Thanks!!

ezbot

Cool idea and a clever way to split the busses for further processing

ezbot

Audio midi refers to being able to accidentally trigger those tracks via external gear. You have to enable that. 9/10 are on all parts. If not listed as all they have separate fx per input. No you can not easily convert this as it is. The template is designed to process incoming audio only.

Whilden Hughes

Is it okay to copy and paste effects between parts? I would like to move my favorite 16 effects into part 1

ezbot

That will work for a few Fx but not for all

ezbot

Give it a shot and I if it didn’t work FUNC + CUE and reload the part

András Balogh

Amazing! Best template ever :) i missing a few fx from the previous template. Do you think there is an easy way to copy the settings from the "performance" to the ultimate? or just make photo of them and try copy the settings if there is the same fx make it possible? :)

About: Higher Waves

I started questioning what the FX workflow was on the OT before Matthew. Is it a new FX era beginning? 8)

ezbot

Please list the FX you feel you are missing! <3

Geonat

This is amazing. Thank you. I hadn't used my OT for anything useful for a long time, now it has a new lease of life.

Pat LaBine

He always posts a v1.1 so I’ll just wait a couple days. Literally just installed it 5 minutes ago and you post 1.1.2. 😂

ezbot

lol yeah, just did it again. I am done tonight, i promise

Pat LaBine

Haha looking forward to it!

András Balogh

CIRCUIT3 - 'Metanoia' new album feat. Vince Clarke out now

Amazing! I'm off to Superbooth in the morning but had a half hour to play with this and it's perfect for my live set. I'm going to swap out the loopers for 2 Static tracks where I want to use some stems. I have an AR going into AB and an A4 going into CD. I suspect I'll be playing with this a lot in the coming weeks and hope to put it at the heart of my live set.

ezbot

let me know how this works out!

ezbot

That stuff is all there my friend!

Amor

This kicks ass! <3

Joe Sharratt

no words. incredible. is it possible to trigger the side chain from external midi?

ezbot

I should think so, just send MIDI channel 5 a note in

ezbot

Thank you Amor!

ezbot

I wish there was more FX to work with!

ezbot

I think so too :)

ZPURPZ

Been using it to record some improv jams and am loving it! I’ll def have some questions for ya soon 🙏🏼

About: Higher Waves

yes, there was not much, only DAO ) like during BC times ) Thanks

Gav Stubbs

Really great work, mate. Thanks for all the time and effort you've put into this bad boy!

ezbot

More to come, I’ll be updating it soon

Michael Bobrowski

Amazing work - I really need an effect inspired by DJ Screw's technique: slowing down the tempo of a song (screwing), repeat certain phrases (chopping), and maybe lowering 2 semitones. It would be kind of like a mix between the 1/2 speed with a sprinkle of daft punk. What do you think?

ezbot

This is def possible but it might sound a bit lo-fi

fede rimini

Hey Matt your work is awesome, thanks man!. Maybe you mentioned this already but I wonder how to add a flex track with samples into the new template.. where would you place it?

ezbot

Gonna happen this weekend :)

CIRCUIT3 - 'Metanoia' new album feat. Vince Clarke out now

The template has helped me quickly get up to speed with my (new-ish) Octatrack. By examining how you've done this and wondering how far I could push it I learned a *lot*. In order to do all the stuff I want it to do I've had to make compromises and edit the template. I have figured out how to have stems and loopers in the template. It's not perfect but I think it'll work for my live shows: I've got an AnalogFour and an AnalogRytm going into inputs AB and CD and want to run clips/stems from my multitracks. What I've done is removed the loopers and replaced them with 2 sample/stem tracks (1 for drums, 1 for synths). The compromise is that some of the FX aren't as strong as the original template but despite this it's still working very well. This led me down the road of wanting even more... I wanted to have a looper track to use for transitions and managed to incorporate that. Listening to all of the FX I realised my music would use fewer of the Part 4 'Party' scenes and effects so I started there. I changed Track 7 from a Neighbour track to a Flex track and set it up to record from the Main output (thus capturing everything in one recording). Copying the Scene 16 from the original template I can now have a looped section running (with recorded FX from scenes) and leave it running while I either improvise, sing or transition to another song. Next up? I want to incorporate pieces of my live vocal in the looper and I think I have figured out that by running a send from my vocal channel to the input of the AnalogFour I can have my vocal appear in a recorded loop. What I need to figure out is how to manage that without making it too difficult live. Now I'm getting greedy.... 2 octatracks anyone?

BLAIX

Excited for this!

BLAIX

👀

Zack

I'm here for it

Zyodine

Hey Matt, thanks for your amazing work, both here and on YouTube! Been out of the loop with music making for a bit and catching up on your new template releases, as I've loved your previous ones. I just wanted to ask if there's a comprehensible comparison between your Octatrack Templates? As in what are their use cases, strenghts and differences. I think I saw you talking about it in a Video but can't find it anymore.

ezbot

Perhaps we can do that on an Elektron Talk episode

RAFH

Matt! Love all your time and effort with the videos, tutorials, templates...everything! I just picked up an Octa MK2 (again), and while I'm not new to it, it has been a few years and I was curious about something. When I use your template, should I be setting up my mix page DIR setting to be 127 for AB/CD ? This might be a silly question to ask but what the heck! :P

ezbot

Nope! Just plug into the A/B and C/D then press play!

RAFH

One more question...for some reason my #11 / #12 of part 2 build effects are not doing anything as far as I can hear. Is there something I can check? *EDIT* OK I realized I needed to be using inputs C/D , I only had audio coming in on A/B :)

Watto

(First comment on Patreon ever) Thanks so much for all your amazing work matt! Can I second this request for a comparison video/doc. between patreon and discord theres a lot of files floating around and it'd be great to have a single source of truth on which is current/which does what...

Brian H

Amazing! I’m sure you covered this but I couldn’t find it. You mentioned that the OT serves as the master clock and transport control. Are you also using the OT for all pattern changes as well?

Hanjo Synth

Random question here. I have been playing around with the template and I started to wonder. For the effects that run an LFO to get 64 steps build up, could they be made so that the LFO only gets triggered on the 1st time around and on subsequent times the effect stays engaged without creating a new rise? (somehow a new flat LFO engages on the second time that overwrites the first exponential?). Its totally not a problem to be continuously affected, but sometimes, if you are not quick with the slider, the retriggering of the build will mess up the whole purpose...

ezbot

I'll think this one over, there is the HOLD LFO that might do the trick or even an LFO made with the designer that could likely work for that, you'd just have to work out the math. The techno template is 8 bars for FX which I think you might find easier if the crossfader timing was buggin ya.

Hanjo Synth

Makes sense, drawing half exponential and ending up second half straight on the top would double the time but would require making 1/2 the number on the slide.

Whilden Hughes

Awesome! It bends my mind what you're doing. might we get a CC map for the SHIK template so we can map it to other controllers? faderfox etc

ezbot

Yes, I will add that. I had it in there but I took it out cause it looked messy 😂

Marc Schopper

Why do I hear a reduction in volume when I fade with from the dry signal to e.g. to the A/B looper in the middle of the crossfaders path?

ezbot

That’s just how the Octatrack crossfader works. If you move it quickly it’s more effective.

Hugo

thank you!.. but right now, seeing so many downloads, I'm starting to have difficulties in knowing which one is the "good" one... I don't know what each one is for.

Will Fontenot

Where can i find the Shik templates for Ultimate OT template 2FF? can't seem to find them

ezbot

It’s the same SHIK template for all 3 templates: Ultimate FX, 2FF, and Techno.

Ramiro Gorriti

Hey Matt, I'm learning to use the Octatrack and I'd like to experiment with this template. I have downloaded the file and opened it on my device. Everything looks good, except that, for some reason, I can't preview the samples from the file directory, and even after loading them –for example– in a flex machine, somehow I cannot listen to them, as if monitoring was disabled by default. This only happens with this template: When I switch projects on the Octatrack, I can preview samples or monitor sound with no problem. Am I missing something? Do you think it might be a bug and that I should try reinstalling the template? Thanks a lot!

ezbot

Which template are you using?

Ramiro Gorriti

The Ultimate Octatrack FX Template 1.5.1, however, I just noticed there’s an updated version of it, right?

ezbot

Yes, that's it!

Remi Demi

I like ur Videos but pls Zoom in the Displays iam a old Man i dont See somthing and i dont like to Look on my tv 🙈😀👍

ezbot

I'll try for sure, thanks for sharing that with me!

Julian

Hi Matt, first of all thanks a lot for your effort on all these templates. Really love them and have been using them for a while now. I understand these templates are based on using external gear but it would be great to have a template in which we could use external gear and the sampling capabilities of the octatrack. I currently have a syntakt and a deepmind 12 and I miss the OT power of sampling to be integrated into this workflow... Maybe I'll adapt the template to have several tracks to mangle samples while being aware that maybe the fx on the scenes will not be so so good as the current ones. I would love to see this happening :-)

ezbot

I am in the process of making this happen to the best of my ability! <3

Julian

Thanks so much for your response Matt. I think that template could do the trick for a lot of people.

Nick Breinich

I'm definitely one of them. This would be the template I'd roll with for sure. Best of all worlds.

Hanjo Synth

Matt a quick request here. Im going through some old streams but I cant seem to wrap around my head what would be the top videos to check out that relate to building/ understanding the OT tramplate from scratch and making effects/ tweaking. Could you make a playlist and order the content in a comprehensive step by step way? I know is a lot to ask, maybe just your personal top 10 in terms of template related content could be ok! Thank you!

ezbot

This is a good idea 👍 I’ll work that

Hanjo Synth

Thank you! Let me know when you set it up! Im eager to give them a couple of attentive views 👌🏻

Whilden Hughes

If I build a set off of the 1.5.1 template, making adjustments to pattern compressors, sequencing the ducking steps, etc…is there any considerations to keep in mind with the workflow to keep the default scene settings and also save my project customizations? I could imagine that when you start tweaking a midi controller and saving project milestones, things could get complicated. Does the locking prevent this? Can the scenes get reloaded via usb mode with a computer in the event that I mess up?

ezbot

The locking prevents your manual adjustments from disrupting the scenes and allows you to play with your MIDI controller. If you don't change out the insert effect assignments it should be no problem. If you do change the effect to a new effect you will break many of the FX scenes, like a delay into a reverb or a chorus into a filter. I suggest you save a copy of the template and play around in bank 16 and see what you like.

Nejm Benessaiah

Wowsers, thanks Matt! This is amazing. I just noticed that your instructions say to add the folder unzipped, is that right? I always added the folder inside the main folder zipped before.

ezbot

Yes, only copy the folder that has files that end in .work to the Octatrack. Do not copy over the zipped folder

Nejm Benessaiah

I'm just tripping sorry. I misread and mixup zipped and unzipped in my head somehow. Thanks for the reply

Agustin Sanch

Hi do you have any template with all those effects but only for sounds coming from the octatrack, not using T channels. Thanks

ezbot

You can technically just change the THRU machines to Static/Flex and it will work that way. It is not possible to make these FX without using several NEIGHBOR machines which means you wont have many sample tracks.

R3ND3RR0R

Time to get a second OT just for sample mangling.

Ian Smirna

Indeed, it's a bit confusing. I first unzipped and put the content folders on the OT but could not see them. It's because there is a folder in a folder in a folder... Only the last folder needs to be copied on the OT. Also having long names makes it difficult to find on the OT as the screen displays only first and last characters so if you copy few different templates at the same time you don't know which one is what.

Ian Smirna

I have to say I have disappointed to realize most of these templates are just using the OT as a remixing box. As I was interested into the FXs I was expecting not to have to fiddle so much with the settings to use it only with the OT.

ezbot

Unfortunately these FX only work with several Neighbors Machine tracks stacked, so it makes sense to use it with your external gear. It’s not possible to make the FX I have built and process the audio of more than 2 audio tracks.

Thomas Vanderstraeten

Hi, thanks so much for the template which is a ton of fun to use. In the instructions you mention it's better to use the OT as the master clock / transport. However, I'd prefer to use my AF because I find its switching between patterns more intuitive. Would that cause any issues if I set AF as the master instead?

ezbot

Any template will be fine, just change the MIDI settings in your Octatrack to receive and you’re golden

Thomas Vanderstraeten

Great, thanks for the quick reply and keep up with the amazing work. By chance, is there any podcast where we can find you?

Delos Prismatic

Thank you! These templates/effects are amazing and really glue the elektron workflow together for me.

Luca Ortega

Hello, awesome work!, checking the templates chart, thinking on testing a live set with the FX2FF, normally my OT scale settings are MASTER:INF and on each tracks I have settings like 12/16, 7/8 etc, all audio tracks either for loops or sequences. I use poly/meter tracks all the time,,I notices that on the FX2FF the master lenght setting is 64,, Question: it will work as intended if I change it`s master settings to INF? so I could still using my loops on the 2 available audio tracks? thanks!

ezbot

Yeah that shouldnt be an issue. Just know that the FX automate over 4 bars

Shako D

Hi Matt I have a question regarding the volume level cross point, when witching between the audio ins and the recorded loops. Is there a way to avoid volume loss when the crossfader is in the middle position.

ezbot

That’s not possible on the Octatrack, I recommend you move the fader quickly

Delos Prismatic

Hey Ezbot, I'm wondering if it's possible to get the Ultimate FX template set up for 8 bar recording? I really love having accessing to the A/C, C/D, Main loopers especially for transitions between songs. It would be rad if we could get 8 bars of recording. I've tried following your normal 8 bar recording tutorial for the Octatrack but so far I've not had luck with getting the 8 bars to work with the Ultimate FX template. I'm curious if maybe the way the template is set up is causing issues when I try to update the loopers to 8 bars. I'm only really using the OT as a performance mixer so I'm not super well versed in all it's intricacies yet. Either way I really appreciate your tutorials and work.

ezbot

I would recommend using the Techno performance Template if you want 8 bar recordings. The Ultimate FX template uses 2 recording buffers for it's recordings and thus would require a lot of button presses to grab 8 bar loops. 4 bar loops only require you to hit the YES button, 8 bar loops require you to press Track 4 hit rec 3, wait until the recording starts and hit REC 3 again. On the Ultimate FX template you would have to do this on both Track 4 and Track 8. Long story short it's not worth it and I've already redesigned all the the FX from this template on the Techno Template to fit 8 bars.

Delos Prismatic

just now Awesome thanks so much for the detailed explanation. I really appreciate it and that makes sense.

ryan fairchild

Hey with the last ultimate template I am not hearing anything coming in from a-b or c-d. I see on the recorders that there is signal coming in and all of the other templates work fine. Did I miss some setup?

ezbot

No, I am not seeing this issue. If you accidentally deleted the pattern you will need to reload or copy the pattern from another. The sequencer has to run at least once for the audio to come through. Make sure your pattern is there

ryan fairchild

I figured out the issue. In audio settings my cue config was set to normal and not studio

ryan fairchild

Also is there a way to record a session from the two recording buffers on the ultimate fx template or is it best to just go through a daw?

ezbot

I would do it with the DAW cause it's easier and faster but yes you can record the two buffers no problem. You can use recorders on the THRU or NEI tracks.

2026-09-19 02:00 I keep forgetting... but where would I hook up drums and melodic stuff to the Octatrack to get the best results? Rythmic stuff på A/B and melodic to C/D?

Drums A/B and Melody C/D

Cannot be thankful enough for all the work you put into these. I have the same setting with all the Digi boxes and the OT. One experiment I am making is to PAN tracks in the Syntakt, so you can also have some percussive (1-4 and 10-12) going to A/B and 5-8 going through the Digitone to C/D. Now thinking about it, I think it makes sense to go through the Digitakt, and then to the OT... but the effects on the Syntakt would be lost... any thoughts on this? I just feel like the Syntakt is neither melodic or drums, but both, as many people find out... wonder if there is an ultimate setup... thanks

You've been an inspiration to me and I cannot wait to spend gobs of dough at Modbang.

Hi, I'm a new supporter and just wrapping my head around this incredibly vast pool of resources! I'm wondering if this is the most recent Ultimate FX template? Thanks for everything! You inspired me to get an OT.
