Octatrack Templates Update! <3 (Patreon)

Greetings everyone,

EDIT: What about 3 Free Flex Tracks + Master Looper + Master EQ + Master Compressor?

I am currently in the process of drafting the 'read me' file for the Techno Performance Template. I have some additional effects in development (4-6), and I am gearing up for the final release. Rest assured, this, along with the other two templates (Ultimate FX and Ultimate 2FF), will continue to receive ongoing updates and enhancements, ultimately leading to a range of variations.

I'm also interested in gauging your interest in a template featuring 4 FREE FLEX slots without any recorders or looping functionalities. Instead, it would focus on freeze delay loops, which are incredibly valuable for creating several great effects and song or element transitions. Please note that this template would exclusively offer master effects, without the AB/CD or percussion/melody separation. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the idea of reclaiming half of your Octatrack for sample slicing while retaining 80% of the effects.

Lastly, I am drafting up a revision of the SOLO template that includes several new automated effects and the option for 8 bar loops.

As usual, mind blown 🤯, I was only dreaming about something like the 4 free flex tracks option as I’m trying to build out an Ambient setup, which means I’m loving the 8bar effects. I don’t always have a drum buss, so the master effects would be ideal. To think I was contemplating dropping the OT for a channel mixer, what was I thinking 🤔?

awesome job, mate! But I am currently more interested in a “jam utility sampler/mixer” usecase. My Idea is to have two Thru, one Masterlooper, either 4 Flex tracks or even some Pickups for easy live looping and overdubbing and one Master Track. The effect section is kept fairly basic with a master freeze delay, master delay and reverb. The goal is to be able to cue up Channels AB/CD while looping the results and recording some samples for further processing (flex).

Amazing work, dude! I’m glad to know that you’re still improving these awesome templates. I’d be interested in a 4FF and an updated solo template too. I use the OT for many different genres and applications, so having a variety of templates to start from is wonderful 👌🏻

Im definitely interested in the 4FF template. What do you think of a “greatest hits” template? By which I mean +/-4 banks of multiple templates across one project, so the user has the option to change approach during a performance without the need to change to a different project and lose audio continuity in the process.

Definitely interested in a 4 flex version! These templates are killer. Id love to see a version for a one synth setup like your A+b, c+d split style bussed thru. except one side of tracks eg. t5-t8. Dedicated to sampling/mangling/resampling.

4 Free flex would open up the OT to be able to be more of a track builder and FX box at the same time, which has been pretty much the hope I'd had from the beginning. So a big yes from me. Thanks for your continued high quality work Matt!

That sounds very similar to my old template Performance Template 2.3.5. To do this with the new FX is a complete rework so it could be a while before I go in the direction.

I guess one limiting factor would be wether or not a template used T8 as master or not, since that is project wide rather than configurable per part.

Mmmm... 4 flex tracks would be a strong push towards making the OT the complete centre of my system, but then I'd have to bring back my end of chain sampler, a Boss RC202 (though I actually still have its foot-control pedal in my pedalboard...coz ya never know...). I'm using a KAE MidiAnt with a CV pedal that controls the OT's slider (essential if you've got your hands on your guitar), but trying to get hands-free CC control over real-time sampling on the OT is proving to be much harder than I imagined. Works OK with the Black Box as end of audio chain, but I'd rather keep it in the OT's cue send to C/D return loop, so I can capture guitar and synths only. So it's a shame to sacrifice the OT's brilliant real-time sampling abilities, but... oh, yeah, I couuuuuuuuld get another Octatrack just for sampling... ha ha ha... (evil laugh with tears running down my cheeks coz I really don't have room for a second OT...)

Hey Matt, I’ve very new to the OT. Do you mind explaining how to update your template (I’ve previously installed the techno one) and worked in a project. Though I’d like to keep all the sounds/samples etc. is it possible to do so when updating? How does it work?

There is no real "updating", its a new template entirely every time I do an upload. You can try copying a pattern, opening the new template (project) pasting the pattern. Repeat this process until you have your song. You may have to reassociate the samples with the files, not sure. I haven't tried this method on the OT but it does work on the Digitakt, so it's worth a try.

I think what I'm most interested in is a version of the performance template that retains the current melody/percussion separation but with simpler effects that allow for 2 flex slots to be free to play arbitrary loops/samples. I love the current template, but I only use a handful of the effects, absolutely need the looper on the 16th slot to transition, but also really want 2 free sample channels to add loops in to the mix. I may just end up trying to make this myself, but some blend of the above is what I'm really looking for. Thanks!

That could be done with 1 free flex from the current 2FF template that is available. A complete FX rework is not really something I am interested in doing right now, they take a long time to setup. I’ll talk about this stuff during a stream really soon.

I would love to reclaim half of Octatrack for sample slicing while retaining 80% of the effects. I love having options and can switch between the two depending on my set performance, having more opens up a bit more for me. Thank you for your time and consideration of this. Hope it happens!!

I like the idea but I should probably get to know the existing templates better before I weigh in here. "Reclaiming for sample slicing" sounds attractive to me for sure

Just to be clear on this, is there still the ability to do looping that allows you to transition to the recorded loop on the 16th slot in this 2FF template? It seems like that's the one feature missing unless I'm misunderstanding. Thanks again.

4 flex tracks would be super! However, when you say no loopers/recorders, is there something that would prevent any/all of those flex tracks from being resamplers/recorders?

I like the idea very much. 4 Flex machines and retaining 80% of the FX would be a BMP (beat maker’s paradise)

2026-09-19 02:00 diggin the idea of an updated solo template man. It’s legit proven to be a rad way to remix some of the stems recorded and saved from the performance templates.

I'd be super psyched to have a hybrid template where I can maybe use some tracks to play back stems while controlling my modular via MIDI channels and running the stems out the Cue out to the modular, and then everything back in the main outs for performance effects :D
