Alex Farran Guitar’s Chat
Ah thank you Jesus, I really appreciate that! 🙏🏻
Peter, that is so lovely to hear, thank you my friend and keep up the hard work! 🙏🏻
I’ve not been playing very long. I stumbled across Alex’s channel a couple of years ago and it inspired me to buy a guitar and start learning. So thank you! Actually I do have a question. What do you think some of easier lessons? What would be a good jumping off point? Thanks for all the lessons!
Hi Alex, same here, I love your lessons, particularly your Marc Ribot renditions but there’s so much more to explore
This is also the moment when I will put in a plug (again) for an in depth version of Ray Charles’ Hard Times
Just jumping in as I was online and saw there was a chat. Love your lessons. Can’t do all of them but some have made a difference on my understanding of the instrument
Hi Alex, Really enjoying your videos! Do you have any plans to do full courses? Also, any more workshops planned?
Thank you Mat, I appreciate that! A couple of my easier lessons off the top of my head; The Thrill is Gone, People Get Ready, Sleepwalk.
Thank you Marco!
A full course would be great!
That’s amazing to hear my friend, well done you!
I’ll check them out. Cheers!
Yes, definitely will be some courses coming in future and more workshops too! Any course ideas? ;)

Ok, 1 minut left. just saw the chat. Love the lessons. see you nrext time. :-)
I only just noticed the chat now but wanted to drop in and say thanks as always!
I think there is a lot of scope in a course on playing more expressively. I find that the better I get, the simpler I play and it’s always about going back to basics. Bends, vibrato, mixing up major and minor pentatonic with chord tones can go a long way. I was playing keep on rocking in the free world at a gig last week and started the solo with a low E note that I let ring out for 12 bars. I added delay and wah and had fun with the ensuing feedback . It sounded epic and couldn’t have been simpler. It was confidence that allowed me to do it. Years ago I would have just started playing loads of licks!🙄😎
That’s a good point Christopher, it’s not an easy thing to put into a course format but I’m sure it can be done! 🫡
I look forward to it. Happy to drop you a line about later. It’s Halloween and the kids beckon!🤟🎸
Hi Alex. I don’t remember you ever confessing what your first electric guitar was. lol Mine was a 1974 Sears Silvertone LP copy.
Alex, you drew me in with the Marc Ribot stuff, and I stayed for the rest. LOVE the lessons and your playing…. Good stuff. BTW, I’ve been playing guitar for almost 60 years, and have played in the same all originals band for over 20, so I don’t pick my teachers willy-nilly 😎. Thank you. Cheers mate!
Been busy lately, Alex and friends. If anyone would like to see why and how, I’ll include a link. Being almost 78, this song from the 70’s has new and pungent meaning for me. https://youtu.be/TpNO8XUmlA8?si=M0vrZm6dfO466w4Q
Love the videos! A kaleidoscope of styles and approaches! Thanks so much!
Any chance of a Richard Thompson or Andy Latimer piece? Or a bossa nova like Wave? Ta
Alex, thank you so much for another brilliant lesson! I´ve enjoyed every single one so far, great stuff indeed!
