Part 1 of 2 in a study on one of Django's classic, but slightly lesser known pieces. This one has a really beautiful latin flavour to it.

Part 1 - Exotic chords & Fascinating rhythms! Stretch your chord and rhythm chops with this beautiful gypsy jazz arrangement of one of Django's tunes "Troublant Bolero". There's nothing better for your playing than to leave your comfort zone and try something different. Valuing authenticity is the key in bringing new sounds, vocabulary and techniques to your playing. The rhythms on display here will sharpen your sense of time and your right hand accuracy massively! And when we get onto the melody, the range of expression we access using nothing but our bare hands and an acoustic guitar is truly something that will push your playing forward.

I am looking forward to walking around all weekend with my wrist flapping out this rhythm despite people thinking I’m crazy 😜 looking forward to part 2

Steve Mayle

Beautifully played and a great breakdown. You can never have enough Django!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Steve, I think this is such a beautiful piece of music. 😎

Shmookie

Yet again, another incredible lesson!! Thank you so much! I love a rhythmic workout!

Hey Alex...this Django piece is much appreciated and sounds crystal clear. At the moment, I am working on Django's Nuages. So, based on your advice, I recorded a backing track (Guitar Rig vst directly fed into Ableton DAW via an interface, instead of via Microphone). Then I play along with it in a separate audio track. I have a long way to go. Are you still doing Zoom lessons? Don't understand how your recorded sound consistently sounds top-notch - mine is a bit muddy.

Richard Stodden

So nice. And inspiring! Like all of your lessons. Another one I have to learn!

Alex Farran Guitar

Nice one Wayne, glad you're working hard on the pieces and getting them to recording standard.. that's such an important step in my opinion. 👌🏻 I do indeed offer Zoom lessons, if you wanted to book in for a one to one session we can of course go over some recording/tone details. If you do fancy that, feel free to head over to this link and book a slot; https://tidycal.com/alexfarranguitar/guitarlesson

Thank you Shmookie! Glad you're enjoying the challenge! 🙏🏻😎

Alan

Many thanks Alex. What an inspiring treasure trove of arrangements and instruction you are putting up! What is the make of guitar please?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Alan, glad you feel that way buddy 🙏🏻 The guitar is a rather lovely John Le Voi guitar I’m borrowing off a student of mine. In fact, in Part 2 of the lessons (the lead part), I go into some detail on it. It’s a stunning instrument 👌🏻

Wayne America

Excellent! I look forward to setting up Zoom sessions with you. At the moment, just working on getting Ableton set up so that the recordings sound better. I am able to record a backing track now via ASIO4ALL with an acoustic guitar mic'd up as well as the other way I mentioned with an electric guitar signal feeding to Ableton via an interface.

No I don’t need a gipsy guitar, no I don’t need a gipsy guitar, no I don’t need a gipsy guitar…

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha, it's hard to resist isn't it?!.. as you'll see in Part 2 of this video, I'm just borrowing this guitar but am now tempted to buy one for myself. I haven't owned a good gypsy guitar for years!
