A bonus lick for you guys to get stuck into.. this is a very common Django-ism and is a great way to spice up your basic triads!.. Super fun to play and amazing for technique too.

A short little video but with a surprising amount of information packed into it, plus I set you some homework at the end of the video too so do make sure to have a crack at that! ;)I've typed up some accompanying lesson materials so do make sure to grab those from the downloads section below this post.

Thanks for your support guys!

Fantastic mini lesson! Always looking to improve stylistically and to make my playing sound more authentic! Thanks Alex! 🍻

Brilliant riff Alex. When I was a kid in the late 80's in order to learn Gypsy style guitar I ordered a VHS tape from the back of a guitar player magazine. That was my only option. I learned a few things from it but the guy on the tape was not very good. I really appreciate being able to get deep into this style of music using your teachings. Cheers

Thanks mate, haha I share your pain! A lot of what I learned as a kid was off dodgy VHS videos 🤣

Gert De Groof

Brilliant! I have more work to do on the picking hand rather than the triads on this. And the speed of course… Oh…and thanks for not using a gipsy guitar 😉. Take care Alex

Just told my boss I’m not feeling well so I can leave work early and go home and give this lick a shot!

Alex Farran Guitar

My pleasure Gert! Haha I used my dreadnought just to save you any more temptation to purchase a gypsy guitar! 😉🤣

Question: Do you sometimes slide your index finger from below to the root for easier hand placement for the next string? For example on the 5 of C.

Randy Yount

Fantastic mini-lesson! Thanks!

MarkF

Thanks looks very worthwhile to get this lick down and into the toolbox

Alex Farran Guitar

My pleasure! A very useful lick/concept indeed. Works beautifully slow too 👌🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Sure, you can use slides if you like too. Try a few different fingerings to see what works best for you 👌🏻

Randy Yount

I really like this, because it feels like a portable set of tools I can use. I was wondering if you could demonstrate this in a be-bop format. I've been trying to figure out a Tobias Hoffman composition, and I think he's hopping around the neck using mostly triads, but I'm not sure.

Alex Farran Guitar

For sure!.. I’ll do a full video on bebop enclosures very soon 👍🏻

GoofyRaf

So nice, love it, thanks

GoofyRaf

That’s funny, fooling around your minor Django enclosure thing, I found the Mozart Turkish march !

GoofyRaf

Everything we do was already done before… confusing…

Trever Swearingen

All of your lessons are ridiculously amazing. Teaching a lick is one thing, but teaching the lick and outlining the arpeggios, and explaining the theory behind the intervals is next level shit.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Trever!.. I’m so glad you feel that way my friend 🙏🏻
