A lovely little bebop V-I lick in Eb! Full of chromaticism but simple enough to visualise if you know your intervals ;)

Tab/Notation attached below as always..

Love this series, thanks Alex!!!

Lovely little bitesize goodness! On a trip for work this week, but already looking forward to get home and try it!

Johan

Outlining the chord before it arrives seems to pop up in a lot of these Charlie Christian lessons. Very cool.

GoofyRaf

Yeah, I love these licks lessons, not only the how, but the why you share with us 🙏

Wayne America

Your explantion of this phrase is much appreciated. Let me try this as is and then work on learning to improvise from it....which would be a big step for me.

Alex Farran Guitar

That's a fantastic thing to aim for Wayne, let me know how you get on!

GoofyRaf

I struggled with the last bar of the lick, not on pdf or gp ! Smart coach forcing us to dig deeper ?

Alex Farran Guitar

The last bit is something I just tacked on myself and it’s different each time.. not part of Charlie’s lick.. just a resolving phrase. And yeah for sure, I think it could be both fun and beneficial to task yourself with working those variations out by ear 😉 (But feel free to drop me a message back if you can’t quite get it after some effort, and I’ll TAB an example out for you) 👍🏻

GoofyRaf

Thanks for your answer Alex, I think I got it, more or less.

Gert De Groof

Do you rather see Eb6 as a framework for resolution or Eb (blues) pentatonic scale? I guess both are possible…
