A fantastic album with some supremely tasteful guitar playing.. always grooving hard and sitting in the pocket. Gorgeous, percussive clean tones.. a man of many stylistic touches from jazz to reggae and everything in between.

The track linked in the post "Spanish Eyes" is my personal fave off this record, but his version of The Beatles tune "You Won't See Me" is excellent too.. as is most of the album to be fair!

I love Ska everything from Trojan recordings to 2Tone and familiar with Ernest's contribution as a session player but haven't listened much to his own recordings. this is great

Glad you liked it Micael.. just to clarify, it is indeed from 1966.. perhaps it was remastered/reissued in 2012? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Bob Meager

Just watched his tiny desk concert. He is 82 there and still playing great. Wow. Quite an inspiration. Thanks for the recommendation, I hadn't heard of him.

Awesome Bob! Yeah he’s so inspiring to watch.. saw him live way back and he was just having so much fun! 🕺🏻

Ok that makes total sense since it sound so much inluenced by the guitar instrumental bands of the 60s Like Venture Shadows and the whole surf guitar thing in combo with the jazz of mid sixties...Really cool music...

Robert Goodale

I've always enjoyed Ernest Ranglin's more expansive jazzier contributions, such as his guitar work with Monty Alexander on Al Green's "Love and Happiness". A much freer and varied groove than the 2-beat of Ska. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGCIh-Ln-DQ

Speaking of...Today I saw that the legend Duane Eddy have left the earthly life to play with the Gods...He really defined how to use the 3 upper strings ie bass strings of the guitar in the late 50s and then 60s...Always the "Rebel Rouser".....Perhaps a lesson on something from him in the future...Take care Best regards Micael

Did he ever play with the skatalites?
