Another Jimmie Rivers classic off the “Brisbane Bop” live record. A super fun Bb blues with a rhythm changes bridge section. This finger tangler is a seriously great technical workout! Put that looper to use and become a one man band! 😉

As usual, the materials are downloadable at the links below.. enjoy! 🍻

I apologies for sounding cheesy…but you’re a fountain of joy Alex! I just spend a week learning ‘I surrender dear” and “My funny Valentine” and this came right at the time I thought, man, give me some uptempo swing now! So, yeah…thanks. Take care.

DENNIS CHUGH

Inspiring music, amazing playing. Thanks for the bonus.

I remember when I stumbled across that album years ago, it’s still as amazing and inspiring today. Thanks so much for this one, I’ve always wanted to give it a try!

Joseph Corso

Tremendous Alex thanks …what looper are you using?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Joseph! I use an old Boomerang looper that I've owned since 2009.. my favourite Looper by far. (Doesn't store any audio though)

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah man, thank you so much! Really glad you like the pacing of different moods/emotions I try to present! ;)

Hi Alex . How are you my friend . Lot of thanks for this new Jimmies Rivers piece … I’m going work on it this step ! You delighted us with Jimmies blues … I almost hold it .. just have to play it in different tonality ! Thank you for making me discover this guitarist 👍

Alex Farran Guitar

That's great Antoine, very glad you enjoy the pieces! Let me know how you get on :)

Wayne America

Oh yeah, I like this and Jimmie's Blues as well. I played this a bit this evening and it is straightforward. I am getting used to the chords you use in your arrangements so feel a lot more comfortable nowadays.

Anthony Calcaterra

Love this tune. The solo is amazing. Jimmie blazes thru the changes. So much to steal from that!

This is great, loved the last Jimmie Rivers lesson, can’t wait to do a deep dive into this one! Thanks again Alex!!!

I don't remember what prompted me to purchase the Brisbane Bop CD. It made a strong impression on me. Jammin' with Jimmy was also one of the first jazz like solos I transcribed (granted I only transcribed the A section). The way he plays the change Bb6 to Eb7 just by changing one note was a revelation!

Ville Silventoinen

You make it look so easy! Sounds great, another great Jimmie Rivers piece to learn. I tend to play the whole rhythm track into a looper with a metronome, I struggle stopping a shorter loop at the right time, it's real hit-and-miss.

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you liked it buddy, a really fun one! Keep up that metronome and looper work and it'll all come together beautifully. Just make sure to always hit the looper switch on Beat 1 of a bar ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

So cool Jerome! I'm with you.. it made a really big impression on me too! Such a lively atmosphere too.. hard not to get excited by it! I'll cover the solo in a lesson soon too.

Jerome Oks

That is valuable advice. It took me a while to do it right. In desperation, I eventually read the manual;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you enjoyed it Wayne, a really good finger warm up at full tempo!

Alex Farran Guitar

Amazing isn't it?.. I must've transcribed every solo off that record over the years. Always love his opening licks.. really knew how to start a solo with some fire in his belly!

Anthony Calcaterra

Totally amazing! I transcribed the solo to Jammin with Jimmie a couple years ago, still cant play it up to speed:)

Lillefar

Looks easy, but is kinda difficult ( for me that is) to get that energy swinging groove melody going. I love this looper fun lesson ! Thanks 😊

Alex Farran Guitar

It’s harder than it seems for sure!.. it’s all about getting the timing really tight at a much slower speed and then just very gradually bringing the tempo up. You’ll nail it with some solid practice for sure 👌🏻
