Mayfield meets Harrison!.. Today we combine a couple of my favourite things.. Motown/Soul & Blues chops with The Beatles! We use the classic “Don’t Let Me Down” as a framework for exploring a ton of great rhythm and lead ideas and fills, as well as taking a brief jazzy blues solo in the middle! We focus mostly on double stops, octaves and the Major pentatonic scale in this lesson, so buckle in and enjoy the ride for the next 20 minutes!

Lesson materials include TAB/Notation in Guitar Pro and PDF formats, as well as my backing track and a transcription of all the Major scale and Pentatonic double stops covered in this lesson!.. a real bumper pack of stuff to dig into over and over again!

Great lesson! Im looking forward to working on and playing over the tracks!

Another fantastic lesson... These days I'm looking forward to Saturdays even more than I already did. What I like most about your Patreon is how you circle back to things you’ve covered in previous videos. That gives the whole thing a really valuable continuity. Lately I’ve been working on People Get Ready and your Open Chord Americana and this moves on beautifully from that. And it’s my Favourite Beatles Song! Speaking of The Beatles, I’m getting close to nailing the middle section of your Here, There and Everywhere arrangement – I might see about posting that when it’s done, if I can work out how to get it recorded properly (hint, hint). Plus there are a few other lessons I’m really enjoying: the BB King lesson, Nuages, and I can’t wait to tackle the Delta Blues lesson. You know, if you’re aim is to turn my long-suffering wife into a guitar widow, you’re going the right way about it. You’ve even inspired me to rest my nylon-string Godin and get a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin II (hollow body version) archtop and a Boss Katana MKII to go with it. All lovely kit for those of us on a budget (relatively speaking) and I highly recommend the Kingpin – Katana combination. So, thanks again and keep up the great work. Yet another gushing post to add to your growing collection! 😊

Ah Steve, thank you for the kind words my friend! I'm so glad you like the way I structure the lessons! It's something I've spent years honing and thinking about. I find that constant revisiting and fleshing out of particular concepts is the only real way to make them stick. Glad you're getting on so well with "Here, There and Everywhere".. would love to see a video of you performing it if and when you fancy doing one. And just drop me a message if you need any advice re; video/audio gear. Loving the sound of your current setup too mate, ideal! ;) .. and apologies to your wife! 🙏🏻😆

Johan

I agree with Steve; top notch teaching. And I have to point out again, your tone is just perfect. A little reverb and some tremolo (I am assume that is all I am hearing) really covers a lot of ground. So tasteful.

Anthony Calcaterra

Agree with Steve as well. I've been working on the Motown stuff from the past lessons. This fits in perfectly. Thanks Alex!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks so much! Indeed, I always like to just keep it simple tone wise.. glad you like it!

Another gem Alex! I was really looking forward to this and it’s everything I hoped it would be and more.

Gert De Groof

So this lesson contains like every single option of that last survey you did with some 3’s and 6’s practice thrown in…sweet.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha, that's true Gert! Thanks for the comment, really glad you enjoyed it!

James

Love this one thanks mate! Dig that strap you’ve got on your lovely 335! Is it from Pinegrove leather?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks James! It’s a strap from Bluebell Straps over in Spain. Lovely quality 👌🏻

Gert De Groof

It just shows that it’s hard to choose between all this excellent stuff. Bottom line, it’s all good. I had a great sunday workout! Keep it up and take care.

Shmookie

Outstanding lesson once again! Thank you Alex!

Hey Alex, I have just become a member here and I am just getting to grips with People get ready as a starting point. Some great resources you have provided, thanks. I will be working my way upto this one while I progress through your back catalogue. I just need to buy some hats now and I am good to go.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha thanks Andy.. a man certainly needs a collection of fine headwear! 😆 Thanks for joining up and showing your support my friend, I really appreciate it. Don't hesitate to drop me a message if you ever have any questions.

Rich

Alex, thanks for providing those supplementary double stops. As much as I want to play through the songs, sometimes I'm not ready but it's a great help for me to work through & practice the stepping stones. Cheers

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Rich, I’m glad you find the lessons useful. That’s always my goal.. provide enough aside from the song to make it a substantial lesson 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Nick, glad you enjoyed it! Man, I love it!.. fantastic playing! Thanks for sharing! P.S: love the shirt! ;)

David Marr

I absolutely love the voicing you put on this “Jolene” lead study. Talk about putting the right amount of notes in the perfect timing. This gives it a “feeling” for sure. Bravo sir!!

2026-09-12 16:00 Hey Alex, loving this lesson. I would love a full length backing track for the song, have you made one? It sounds so great, its just over whilst im getting into it!

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you like it so much Pierre! Unfortunately I only made the backing track the length you already have in the lesson materials (it should be a little over 2 mins in length). If I can dig out the external drive with the original session files on, I can make an extended version for you by splicing two runs together.. would that be any good?

Alex Farran Guitar

Sure thing, I’ll sort it out tomorrow for you. I’ll drop you a comment here to let you know 👍🏻
