For the first time in over a year, I’m taking a week off from posting a public lesson up on YouTube. * For my Patreon members, I have something fun for you to dig your teeth into so do scroll down and continue reading below!..

I’m currently working hard coming up with some really exciting, and different studies.. recording a new backing track daily and finding inspiration in new sounds. So watch this space, because after this week off, we’ll be back twice as strong as before for #SeasonTwo 💪🏼😎

Thanks for all of your support, kind words and encouragement over the past year.. it means the World to me and I can’t wait to see what this next year brings! See you all next week when we return to our regular programming!

In the meantime, for my Patreon members, I have something of gypsy jazz challenge for those of you who might fancy having a go at one of Django's iconic solos.

With the video above, and my transcriptions attached below you should have everything you need to get this monster masterpiece under your fingers! As always, I work everything out by ear and put a lot of time, effort and consideration into my transcriptions before I neatly type them out in guitar pro. Here, I've chosen logical Django-esque fingerings, which may seem tricky in places.. but I'm a firm believer in getting out of your comfort zones in order to grow and progress as a player.For those of you brave enough to tackle this, do let me know how you get along with it in the comments below, and hey, maybe upload a video of you playing through it over on our exclusive members forum at the link below;

Django's Tiger - Gypsy Jazz guitar solo note for note transcription. Django Reinhardt

Click here to purchase my transcription of this solo.. https://smogfalls.gumroad.com/l/xnzem This is a fiddly one for the picking hand especially! Fun as hell to work up to full speed though. Django Reinhardt made this sound so effortless and playful! I think you’re gonna have to take more than one week off before I can master this!😂 Just started ‘Sonic Tele’ by Jim Campilongo on TrueFire….man he’s so good…🔥 (I see a lot of your style in there, Django, Jimmie Rivers, Charlie Christian, they’re all over it 👌)

GoofyRaf

Enjoy the off week Alex, sure its not so off… there’s no way I try your monster piece ! Enough guitar work in progress 😉

Alex Farran Guitar

Hehe thanks buddy! Yeah, it's definitely not a week off at all! 🥵

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha thanks Gert, give it a go though.. it's so fun to play through! Ooh yeah, Jim is a fantastic player.. one of my favourite modern tele-masters 👌🏻

Cool....have a nice break. I am in Tenerife now. Sitting by the sea, the weather is beautiful.

Jean-Luc

You can find backink tracks on youtube.

Jean-Luc

2 other versions available in 170bpm and 270bpm. Martin Giani from Guitare improvisation is a very good gypsy guitarist.

Hi Stephen, as suggested below, I just YouTube searched “Django’s Tiger backing track” for this one. I only include the backing tracks in the download if they’re mine.. just incase of any legal infringements etc. I’ll find a good one and link it below though 👍🏻

Mats Karpestam

Ouch this is gonna be a real challenge.

Shenton Smith

Hey Alex I dont know where you are in the UK ,still i'm back in Londion this next month with my starfire 4 guild, its for sale, everything original even the case with "log book" showing number registered. Would you or anyone you know be interested? Great lessons, really str8 forward and your style of teaching is one of the best in my opinion. Honestly! Not just because I have my guitar for sale!

Shenton Smith

I see Nottingham, my wife is from Westbridgeford got married there. Anyhow will also be up that way before the end of the year. You do one on one lessons right?

Michael Sosebee

Alex I am going to take the challenge. I don't know if I can ever get close to that speed but I love your rendition of the late Great Django.

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Shenton, what a coincidence!.. I live very near to West Bridgford! Unfortunately I only do online lessons now.. I stopped doing in person lessons last year. We could just meet up for a coffee though.. always nice to meet Patreon members! ☕️

Yes sounds like a plan. That would be great. I'll get back to you. The missus is there at the moment with her mum. I'm in Spain close to Gibraltar. Love the Spanish guitar, the flamenco, is also really the gitano guitar, gypsy that is, i find the techniques pretty difficult. Do you know the piece, Dos Aguas by Paco de lucia? Really special, about his wife and mother in law as it happens! Plus of course he was from here, Algerciras, where the Med and the Atlantic seas meet. The two waters, wild and beautiful, except when they clash with the 2 winds, we have here that drive them into a frenzy at times, then out of control, no man needs to or wants to get inbetween them. LOL.

Daghan

Any tips on the tone?

Late to the party but challenge accepted! :) Started working on it a couple of weeks ago. I’m about there with knowing the phrases, but quite a way to go before I can string it all together properly. Maybe I’ll post an attempt soon, so I can track my improvement, ‘cause I know I’ll still be trying to perfect it in a years time!
