I always say these lessons are huge, but it's true!.. in this one we learn chord work on 2 levels, from basic to advanced. Tons of examples of substitutions, movements, ii-V's and application of inversions.

We even cover some ideas for intros and outros before using our trusty looper to record our backing track into as we explore a couple of ways to play the head (melody) of this classic, must-know jazz standard.

By the end of this lesson, you'll be able to get along at any jazz jam and wow your fellow players with some authentic, seasoned voicings and lesser known chord movements!

I can't wait to listen and "dive in". THANK YOU, Alex! With the biggest possible capital letters. We love your Saturday's deliveries...

Vic postillion

Alex, great song selection. I have been working on this song, love listening to the Frank Sinatra version. There is also another version done by Lou Perez on YouTube, she plays and sings , I like it some might not. This will be really fun to work on for quite a while. I appreciate your bringing up intros and outro’s, they are such a big part of this style music. I remember Joe Pass talking about younger guitarists missing out on how important they are.

banjer71

I can't see the video , it says the video is private.

Alex Farran Guitar

The video is scheduled to go live at 3pm, so 40 mins from now. I always release the materials on here an hour prior to the video going live (to give everyone a chance to download/prepare everything.

banjer71

Ah sorry Alex I am in Italy at the moment and it is 15.23 , I forgot about the time zone. Ah my bad sorry 😅

Hank Volin

Wow, another gem. Just when I commit myself to hours of triad study I'm faced with the seduction of two of my favorite pieces ...Stormy Monday and All of Me. Snowing and cold here i.e perfect practice conditions ! Thanks Alex !

robi

Good morning. For some reason this video will not play on my phone or iPad. The screen is blank

Alex Farran Guitar

Hey buddy, please see my comment responding to Davide below.. the video isn’t out for another 20 minutes. I always upload the materials here an hour before the video is released in order to give people chance to get situated etc 👍🏻

Tim C.

Lots of great work here and will take this to task !! Thank You ! I echo the comments of others and can't say enough !!

Zohar

Exciting stuff! Can’t wait to start on this! Thank you Alex 🙏🥰🙏

Alex Farran Guitar

Nice one Hank!.. always good to have a few things going in the cycle of pieces to work on! 👌🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for the kind words my friend! I hope you enjoy the lesson 🙏🏻

MarkF

This is simply a “Masterclass” amazing amount of material to digest. I know my downfall will be my right hand I just don’t have your fluidity and feel (who does?) but I’ll still work towards it!! Thanks.

Eirik Kildal

Amazing lesson as always😎. Brgds Eirik

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for the comment Vic, I’m glad you enjoyed the lesson! And for sure, intros, outros and turnarounds in general are so, so important!

Gideon Marriott

What a mammoth lesson that was, must’ve taken ages to put together. Thanks Alex!

martyn spooner

This is stuff I wouldn't have had a clue how to even approach , what a great lesson broken down and explained not to mention it sounds fantastic, it is a biggie for me Thanks a lot.

Rupert Hawkes

Hi Alex, thank you for the lesson, I know it will be through and juicy! Just wondering before I dive into it, is this a good jazz tune to start with (long term player, new to jazz) or have you a better beginner jazz player piece on your Patreon? Thanks :-)

Rupert Hawkes

Me too, decided to focus on triad survival guide and it’s paying off already

tyler taube

I have an ES-175 too but I sure can't make it sound like you do! Nice job. Looking forward to giving this one a shot later. Also, the quality of lesson materials is outstanding. Thank you for preparing the basic changes PDF and the fancy changes and the backing track. I will definitely refer to all of it.

Esgi...sg

Alex, thanks so much for another great lesson! I am so encouraged by your content, you inspire me so much brother! I will be spending some time with this one for sure. You are much appreciated, Esgi

Nick L

Hi Alex, this is another great lesson. I can’t wait to dive into it. Are there GP tabs for the advanced melody portion?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Nick, glad you enjoyed it! I tabbed out the main melody plus my ending section, but the second playthrough the melody is simply that again but with spontaneous “variation”.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks mate! Haha yeah it does take a fair while to put everything together! I love it all though EXCEPT for designing thumbnails and coming up with titles for videos.. hate that part. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Mark, glad you dig it! You’ll get there with the right hand for sure.. keep it loose from the wrist.. no tension. 👌🏻

Nick L

Thanks Alex!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you my friend, I really appreciate that! So glad you’re inspired by the lessons 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

I’m so happy to hear that Martyn, thanks for the comment buddy! 🙏🏻

Marinho Del Santo

Alex, now I had the chance to hear your entire "lesson". It is much more than a lesson...it is a fantastic reading of how to create great music. There is a lot of work (as shall be) and a lot of "textures". As with all your work, my most profound THANK YOU! My Saturdays are not the same after your "lessons"...

Alex Farran Guitar

I really appreciate the comment my friend, your enthusiasm makes me very happy to see! 🙏🏻

Gert De Groof

No surprise I’m loving this to bits Alex! One question: classy chords bar 18. You’re fingering the first B6 to C6 explicitly with 2213. Does that have a particular reason or just preference? I seem to find it a lot more economical with 2314 fingering going to a 3241 for the string up chords. Probably all good, just curious.

Ty Miller

Always appreciate the chord progressions Thanks😎😎😎

John Petitt

Alex, like always this is such a thorough lesson. I’ve been playing guitar for longer than I want to admit, and I stop and replay segments of your lessons constantly. It comes down to the smaller components of playing, like your fingerings of the three note chords which easily leads you to the fancier chords. I will be busy with this song for a while till it gets into muscle memory. Looking forward to the ideas for soloing. Thank you again.

Alex Farran Guitar

That's a great point John. I always try to steer my students towards certain fingerings for the three note voicings so that things flow better, and also so that you can easily add extensions etc so you're right to pick up on those details. Good work my friend, and I'm glad you're enjoying the process! 😎

Dan Pomorski

Alex I love your lessons. I am new to your patreon site and I'm having a hell of a time trying to navigate your patreon page. There is no place that will allow me to search out a particular lesson. I have got to them by going to the Collections site and rooting around till I find the one I'm looking far. I've been able to print out a few pages but most of them show up way to big to print and no way of scaling them down. I also don't have a direct link to your pateon site. I have to go the youtube pick out a lesson of yours then go to the patreon site by going below the video and clicking the patreon link. You are the very first patreon site I've joined and I may be doing something wrong. Thank you for any help you can give and keep the tremendous content coming.

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Dan, thanks for the comment and for being here buddy. There is a search bar at the top of my Patreon page (whether you’re using the dedicated app or the browser it is there so look closely for it). It makes searching very easy as you can either type a word from the title of the video or even just a keyword that’s relevant, (I make good use of the hashtags system here as well so you can even search “telecaster” and it’ll just take you to videos that feature that guitar!). As far as printing the PDF’s out goes, that sounds like an issue with your printer settings to be fair as I have everything formatted for standard A4. Hope this helps matey!

Dan Pomorski

Thank you so much Alex. Unbelievable response time. So appreciated. Got it all sorted out and am now diving in to enjoy your great lessons. Thanks again.

Alex Farran Guitar

No worries at all Dan, I always endeavour to answer quickly when I can! I hope you enjoy digging in and exploring the place. Don’t hesitate to drop me a message anytime.

Håvard Langmoen

This is so great! Just became a Patreon for this lesson. I've watched a lot of all of me videos since I'm working on that song, and yours is by far the best. Do you know when the lesson for soloing over All of me will be out? Really looking forward to it!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Håvard, I really appreciate the kind words! Glad to have you on board too! Ah yes, I will film the soloing lesson very soon, hopefully over the next couple of weeks. 😎

Nat

Absolutely wonderful stuff Alex. Thank you so much. You are genuinely helping me to fulfil a lifelong dream to sound like the guys behind Bireli Lagrène!! I'm so grateful!

jmillerc2

If Alex isn't the best instructor online, I'd like to know who is. What great material, presented clearly, with full theory to satisfy the theory geeks among us. Thanks, Alex. Glad I found you. And oh yeah, what a great player, too. Inspirational.

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah thank you so much buddy, that's very kind of you! Glad you enjoy the lessons! 🙏🏻

Minstrel atHome

A great lesson again, Alex ! Thank you for this amazing Fm6 M7 position, I had never seen it before , so classy ! Quick questions : which metronome and looper do you use ? Both seem super efficient !

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah yes, that's a nice chord voicing isn't it? Super cool! I use the "pro metronome" iPhone app, and an old "Boomerang III" looper pedal. Very simple, not internal memory so it's best used as a live tool.

Minstrel atHome

Many thanks for these informations, Alex. I have just installed the Pro metronome, I love the many different accents settings available in this tool, no more drummers needed 😂. For the looper, I’m planning to get a Boss RC5, which can be used in a straightforward mode, on the fly ,I believe. Have you tried it by any chance ? Cheers Nico

Dan Summers

Hi Alex, I am studying the "All of Me" lesson. I am curious why A flat is used, Is that a common Key center for Jazz? You also mention learning all keys, but suggest learn fourths in C, E flat and G are those also common to Jazz? This is a really nice lesson which covers alot of theory that appealed to me. What other lessons may be related to this lesson for further study? I've been studying your superb content off and on for 6 years & go as I can, they are a challenge! Have a Happy New Year!
