Join me for a deep dive into my chord melody arrangement of another classic jazz standard. We start by outlining the basic changes and melody as separate entities; using my looper to demonstrate how each section sounds when stripped back like this. Then with the liberal use of authentic, vintage flavoured voicings and harmonic manoeuvres we make chord melody magic happen!

As always with my lessons, you’ll come away with a beautiful sounding piece of music to play for your friends and family, as well as a deeper understanding of how the language of music really works.

TAB/Notation and audio recording of the chord melody itself is of course included with the lesson materials, but I’ve also included a basic chord chart with my recommended voicings for accompaniment and the melody itself!

As always my favourite lessons of yours are your chord melody arrangements. So thanks for the early Christmas present and wishing you and your fellow “Farranheits” happy holidays!

Beautiful, Alex. ❤️

JonB

Just beautiful. Fancy chords and a George Shearing reference. A lot to digest. Cheers to the holidays. Maybe even an adult beverage as this tune is so satisfying.

Tyrone Miller

Thanks for a melody that is rich in chord embellishment. My favorite style🤗🤗🤗

Always great lessons and always changing the musical influence week to week. Shifting gears from Ribot to Christian to jazz standards to western swing to country twang I've come to realize it's not just the guitar, it's music that I love. Now the question....I don't think it's a mistake that the blue Jack Casady bass is over your left shoulder in many of these videos. Hopefully it's has more significance than it's blue color for background lighting purposes. Most of us struggling guitarists are struggling bassists as well. We get frustrated with one and move to the other and nary does the twain meet. A fun lesson would be interplay the bass and guitar....maybe Hot Tuna's not a bad starting point.

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Brad, sorry for the slow response! Yes, well spotted, that's my Jack Cassidy bass and is what I use for all of my backing tracks. I'll definitely try and incorporate some bass lessons into the cycle at some point. Hot Tuna is a good shout!
