Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you wonderful people and your wonderful loved ones (both furry and not-so-furry!). I still think about my boy Louis everyday, and I miss him dearly, but at Christmas, we must also remember that love outlasts absence, so let's raise a glass to those who helped make this day meaningful for us.
I am so grateful to all of you for supporting the work that I do here, and I literally couldn't do it without you. As much as I like to think that I push you guys forward with your guitar playing, the truth is that you all push me forward just as much as I strive to deliver bigger, better and more inspiring lessons to you all! I love how dedicated you guys are, and how you're always looking to better yourselves as players.. this inspires me greatly and I'm thankful to be around you.
I'm already excited for what the new year brings, and I have so many ideas for lessons, the list is actually insane.. honestly.. a good solid 2 minutes of scrolling just to get to the bottom! 🤪
I intend to get back to regular weekly lessons as opposed to fortnightly, and on the weeks where this just isn't possible, I will post Patreon exclusive mini-lessons to keep the momentum going.
As usual, I will be keeping things varied style wise, from Jazz and Blues to Country and Folk.. but perhaps we'll widen those horizons even further on the odd occasion; straying into classical, reggae, funk, world music, alternative rock/pop and post-rock!
Also, as Rosie is spending more and more time by my side in the studio, I'm sure she'll start to make more regular appearances in future videos. It's funny, she's such an attention seeker until that camera goes on, then suddenly she's good as gold and knows not to interrupt the flow of a man with a poor attention span at the best of times! 🤣
And finally, some context to the photo above: My Uncle Lyndon, introducing a few months old me to the guitar for the very first time. He was the main driving force behind me falling in love with the instrument. He worked at Maida Vale studios down in London as a sound engineer, so I only got to see him on the holidays, but he would send me cassette tapes of Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix and Guns n' Roses and challenge me to work out some of the songs by ear so that the next time I saw him, we could jam them together. Such an inspiration. He now lives on the south coast in Dorset, so I still don't get to see him as often as I'd like, but tomorrow (Boxing Day), we'll have a couple of pints of Guinness together and reminisce on the good old days.
So, here's to another year of Guitar lessons.. isn't it amazing that those little wooden boxes with 6 strings on can make us feel so good?!
I'll sign off with this Christmas stunner from Mr. Tom Waits:
