Posting 24 hours early for my wonderful Patreon members so you can get familiar with these shapes before the big day tomorrow! ;)

And so The Arpeggio Train just keeps a-rolling! In this week’s lesson we build on the foundations we laid last week, and get intimately acquainted with using our dominant 7th arpeggios to play over a moving chord progression.. the stuff that separates the men from the boys.

As with last time, we start by establishing a simple roadmap, before gradually evolving our ideas by adding blues scale flourishes and expression via bends, hammer-ons, slides and a good dose of light overdrive👌🏻

Again, we use our faithful old looper to act as our rhythm guitar player throughout.

A nice big bumper pack of lesson materials accompanies this one, including all arpeggio shapes for all the chords mentioned, with recommended chord voicings, plus all of the blues scale shapes and an mp3 of my looper track!

Last week’s lesson is certainly a must-watch before tackling this one, so do catch up on that if you’ve not yet seen it!

You're really spoiling us here Professor. Can't wait for Saturday morning Blues time!

Tyrone Miller

Gonna enjoy coffee time tomorrow, checking this one out.

Looking forward to Part 2 of the Arpeggio lesson. At first glance, the materials posted here are the same as what you posted with Part 1, The Secret Sauce. Am I correct in that, or is there some hidden gem in thisd week's materials that I'm missing?

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi William, no they aren’t the same. They overlap as far as the A7 shapes and blues scales go, but this now has all of the E7 and D7 arpeggios, plus recommended chord voicings in each of the CAGED position. Oh, and the audio file in this one is new too. ✌🏻

William Laven

I must have clicked again on the old downloads because I see now that these are all titled differently, too. Sorry for my goof.

Chris White

Doesn’t let me view the video even though says I’m full member. Says available 2-21 7 am

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Chris, the video isn’t out yet. It comes out tomorrow at 3pm UK time. This is just so you guys have the materials available early to prepare/print etc 👍🏻

Larry Coelho

Thanks Alex , looking forward to it!

Jim Wingard

Thanks, Alex, for creating such a great source of material for us to study! I love the tab and charts. This makes learning the material possible.

Eirik Kildal

Thanks again for a great lesson Alex. Is it possible to get the tabs for the «Basic improvisation»?

Alex Farran Guitar

Glad you enjoyed it buddy. I'll do my best to get that done for you, I have some free time tomorrow morning so will set a reminder! ;)

Eirik Kildal

Thanks a lot!! Really appreciate it! Brgds Eirik

Hi Alex. Long time admirer. After listening to this latest lesson the quality of your tone removed any possible reason to not join. So I did Please tell me where the printed materials are that go along with the lesson are? Shally

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you for the kind words and welcome aboard! 🙏🏻 Yes, so just click on the lesson preview to fully open my text description of the lesson, and you’ll see an “attachments” link right underneath that wall of text 👍🏻

Nelson Kerr

Excellent instruction Alex as usual - gotta get with my looper more! Cheers my friend!

MarkF

Only your lessons could pull me away from practicing the Segovia scales-thx for the rescue. 🛟

Hi I have listened to the 2 blues lessons and some things jump out to me: Your left hand is superbly good and the source of a lot of what makes your playing special Vibrato for the ages. Separates you from us mortals. Like BB it imparts a sweetness to the notes Hammer-ons and pull offs? Again, subtly perfect Rakes? Sure, right hand does much of the lifting, but left hand adds and removes subtle harmonics Beautiful to watch a master at work Just noticed it looks like your guitar is a Collings, I think. How does it compare to your other Semi Hollow/Hollowbodies? And yes, a little overdrive just seals the deal When I finally grow up (very late 70’s now) I want to sound like you Shally

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you so much Shally, I really appreciate the kind words! I'm sure you sound awesome when you play, and the fact that you're still looking for new things to learn is a testament to that! Very pleased to have you here in this Community with us. 🙏🏻 As far as the Collings goes, it's an incredible guitar.. immaculate and effortless to play. I love it! But, it's very hard to beat the feel and character of an old guitar, so the 64' es330 I have is still my first reach when it comes to a slimline hollow body guitar.

Ron Culbertson

Great lesson! Easy fun. Do you have a personal chart for Sunflower Waltz. If so please share. Your breakdown on these types of pieces is my go to.

Ron Culbertson

This is the only way I know how to contact you. I’m looking for your recording and other information on the Django tiger. I made a copy of the sheet music when we were doing it but now I can’t find your tracks. Are they still available?

Eirik Kildal

Friendly reminder :-) It would be so great with your ideas on what to play over the chords! Thanks a lot in advance :-)

Andrew

So glad you added the fingering - was going to request this for the earlier arpeggio lesson, cheers

Robert Blagg

Really good stuff here. Something I will continue playing with for a while. You mention at the end of this lesson that the next blues lesson will feature hidden arpeggios that will make our lines more jazzy. Can you please point out where I can find that lesson?
