This also incorporated some talk about Barry Harris's "6th/Diminished scale". I've compiled all 5 parts of my series into this one longer video. It culminates in a chord melody for "I Surrender Dear" that applies all of the things covered in the mini lessons. He Alex, really great lesson. I was particularly intrigued by the thing you did at about 2 minutes in. You play the D melodic minor and than move it up a minor third, making it an E7 altered sound resolving to Am. So that would make that the seventh mode of the F melodic minor scale I think? I’m again kinda struggling with connecting the dots in my head. As you are playing a song in the key of Am at that point, I assume I just need to think about it as a V7 altered sound, right? (I think it’s that “move it up a minor third” bit, what got me confused) Don’t know if you already did, but maybe a good topic for a video…that altered sound and how you use it. Great lesson, nonetheless, so much info and a great chord melody. Thanks!

Hi Gert.. apologies for the slow response, I missed this comment somehow! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Yes, you're absolutely right; I used the D melodic minor over the Bm7b5 (ii), then the F melodic minor over the E7 (V).. as you say, this would be the seventh mode of F melodic minor technically, "Superlocrian" (more commonly known as the "altered scale"). This would then resolve to A minor, where you could switch to A melodic minor scale if you wanted a complete melodic minor workout!. D melodic minor on the ii, F melodic minor on the V and A melodic minor on the Tonic!

Don’t worry about it Alex, you’ve probably got your hands full replying to all those member introductions on your last post 😀. Great initiative that was indeed! But back on topic: I got it, a way to play over a ii-V-i, brilliant, thanks again! Take care.

Certainly felt I was diving on the deep end on this. 😂. Can you point me to "yesterday's video" that set this one up? Thx Alex
