Great purchase! I think jazzguitarist Philip Catherine has a ES 175 from the same year. He makes it really sing. And I saw Kid Andersen play some really mean blues on it. Very versatile guitar. Have fun with it!

I don't have any string recommendations, but am curious to try pure nickels on my Telecaster now! Beautiful 175 - enjoy!

John Ortley

I like the GHS nickel rocker and burnished nickel rocker for my tele.. 100% and ever so slightly semi-flat.. I use them on all fender type guitars and they are inexpensive here in the States

How can you not love an ES-175.. the hardest decision in a vintage one for me would be P90 or PAF lol.. I had a 59' RI that I put flat wound 12 gauge that sounded and felt awesome.

Alex Farran Guitar

I know what you mean mate, I’d love a single P90 model too someday like Jim Hall’s old guitar. For now my es125 fills that space very nicely. This es175 is surprisingly very different to the 125.. much bigger, more wide tone. The 125 has a snarling midrange character.

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man, I definitely think they’re the perfect tele string 👌🏻

Aaron

Beautiful guitar. The sunburst is top shelf too. I’d love to own one. I have a 59’ reissue in natural that is my go to. The neck pick up on the 175 with a touch of reverb is where I live.

Alex Farran Guitar

That sounds lovely! I really dig the look of the blonde ones, so classy 👌🏻

Anthony Calcaterra

Very cool! Looking forward to seeing it in future lessons:)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks mate! I’m very happy with it so far! Looking forward to getting the refret sorted 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Anthony!.. I’ll be filming some videos with it over the next few days 👍🏻

Randy Yount

Beautiful guitar. I used to own a 1963 ES-175. Wish I still had it. Those guitars are magical.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Randy. Oh man, I bet that was lovely! They do seem to have something special about them for sure 👌🏻

Gert De Groof

Beautiful guitar! Even at a discount it would be out of my range I assume 😀. Do like the Barney Kessel tailpiece though.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Gert! Yeah, out of my range as well to be fair!.. this purchase has knocked my back garden project back a good few months 🤣

Ron Bogdanoff

I use the thomastik jazz bebop round wound they are bright and last longer, but I have been using 13s this is on a Heritage Golden Eagle

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ron.. I’m looking forward to putting the bebop’s on this guitar. Think I may start with those 👌🏻

David Lemon

Beautiful! What year is your ES-125?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks David.. my es125 is a 1953.. it's a phenomenal instrument! Love it!
