As I’m sure most of you know, Ignacio “Nacho Banos makes some of the finest telecasters available and his knowledge on the subject is unrivalled. He’s released a couple of truly fantastic, limited edition books on the subject too. Julian Lage of course is a very well known user of his guitars, and rates it above his original 53’ tele!

Normally one of these guitars would be well out of reach for me financially but Nacho got in touch back in Spring and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. He’s a truly lovely, generous man and blew me away with the kind things he said.

He got in touch again a month back to finalise my desired specifications, (neck profile and dimensions, pickups, aging and even a custom serial number stamped into the bridge.. (my date of birth). Last night he dropped me an email with the above pictures and the news that it would ship to me in the next week! Eeeek!.. I’m so flipping excited to get my hands on this! Truly a dream guitar for me! 🙌🏻😍

Here are a few words from the man himself that make me even more excited to receive this instrument;

“Early 50s Blackguard Nachoguitar Serial 5485

Soft Round V neck 0.89”

Dear Alex, this guitar is ready and now going through the photo sessions.

We have mounted it with 60s pickups following your suggestion.

Im attaching a sneak preview. This is the lightest piece of swamp ash I have found in a long time. Only the best for you,

I hope you like what you see.

Best

Wow, that’s a beauty, I want one 😎

Gareth Towner

Special rates for Farranistas? Looks amazing but can’t wait to hear it. Ordered a Japanese tele with a walnut top but had to cancel. Wife said no. I love wood but you have to careful, it doesn’t grow on trees.

Zohar

Stop it please Alex!🥹😆🥹😆🥹😆 this is pure torture now. What an unbelievable collection you have!!!!

Alex Farran Guitar

I believe they're around 6000 euros!.. like I said, way out of my league financially!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Roel. I didn't realise Red Volkaert also plays one! I know Tim Lerch plays one too quite often nowadays.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha oh man, sorry to hear that Gareth! Japanese tele's are amazing, my first main tele was a CIJ 62' reissue and I loved that thing!

MarkF

Jesus wept! So weird I have been thinking about getting a tele myself. How did Fender nail the design upfront that’s lasted 70 years pretty unchanged with the ability to suit ALL styles of music and players and it looks great too! Now amp choice “Fender twin”?? You deserve that guitar that’s a great story congrats.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha sorry Zohar.. not intended to be torture! Thanks man, I'm very happy with my current crop of guitars I must admit. A collection I've been building and working hard to acquire for almost 30 years!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Mark, I appreciate that! Yeah I'm of the same belief.. they nailed it way back then. Same with the amps.. my favourite amp will always be my 69' Deluxe Reverb, followed closely by my 64' Princeton Reverb. Those amps are old and require a bit of work now and then, but nothing I've experienced sounds or feels the same.

Thom Osborne

Wowzers you must be sat at home like it’s Christmas morning just waiting for it to arrive!!!

Carl McAndrew

Congratulations Alex, I am very excited for you and look forward to hearing it in action. Looks absolutely awesome!!

Roi Driscoll

That is positively indecent content! I'm going to have to lay down for a bit. Congratulations Alex — Nacho is not only a true craftsman but a shrewd operator for getting one of his guitars in your hands. I look forward to the eventual demo video.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha apologies Roi.. I should've included a "NSFW" tag ;) Thanks for the kind words mate, I appreciate that. Very much looking forward to putting this to some good use! And for sure, I'll do a Patreon "unboxing/first impressions" video!

Patrick McKinney

Congratulations. Looks sweet and I'm excited to hear it in your talented hands.

David Lemon

Very exciting, Alex! Congrats. How will your current black guard Tele compare? Are they very different?

Randy Yount

Beautiful guitar. Congratulations! Can’t wait to hear you play it.

Tom Eckert

Way cool! The best guitar ever for the working guitarist! A Tele style can cover any genre! Nice move Nacho! Worthy recipient!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks David! They will certainly feel quite different, the Nacho will have a chunkier neck profile. Tone wise we shall wait and see, but they may be similar as I've got for similar pickup types. (low wind, 60's tele style)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Tom! Yes indeed.. the most versatile electric guitar ever made!

Michael Lumert

Whoa! Congrats! I’m so happy for you! That looks fantastic. It needs to be included in the next Q&A please.

Jonathan Fowles

Just beautiful. Would this be a good time for me to request a lesson on Jimmy Bryant and Speedy West's "Cotton Pickin'"...? One of the most joyful of their amazing repertoire I think and no lessons in existence to my knowledge. Would go pretty well with the Nachocaster!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Michael, I shall certainly be doing a video about it for the Patreon.. maybe an "unboxing"!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Jonathan, yes indeed, the perfect time for a tele-centric request! ;) I love "Cotton Pickin'" too and will try to dig out my old hand written transcription of it.. or failing that, I'll re-learn it. Bear with me ;)

Jonathan Fowles

Awesome. I’m sure you have a long list of great candidate material so no hurry!

Jonathan Fowles

I have played both and the Nacho will certainly feel more “alive” (hard to put this into words) and the neck will feel less glossy and much smoother and more natural on the hand. Very subjective but the Nacho feels more resonant and “natural” somehow. At least based upon the examples of each that I played. Lucky (but deserving) man!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Jonathan, I like the sound of that. Always nice when even a solid body guitar has a lively resonance to it.

David Lemon

Jonathan, you've managed to describe something that's been stuck in my head for some time now, and that's the difference between my Isbell Tele neck and my Danocaster Single Cut T neck. The Dano neck is so smooth and "natural on the hand," like an old baseball bat, "alive" like an old familiar friend. And I just don't get that from my Isbell neck. Anyhow, thanks for bringing this up.

John Ortley

that is awesome... I love ash Teles and have an LSL black guard now.. Best back for the buck I could find but what a nice guitar the nacho caster.. I've wanted to try the Ron Ellis pickups JL has in his Nachocaster myself..... do you prefer there staggered bridge poles over the 50's flat ?

Alex Farran Guitar

I’ve wanted one of these for so long! Can’t believe I’m this close now! 😬

Paco Soler Buigas

Congratulations Alex !!! You deserve it !!!! This guitar will be in good hands 🙌 Keep on rocking 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Alex Farran Guitar

Ah thank you Paco, that’s very kind of you my friend 🙏🏻🧡

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks John! Oh man, those LSL's are fantastic guitars.. never played a bad one in my life! I don't have a firm preference when it comes to flat poles vs staggered.. but I will say that all of my favourite bridge pickups have been flat pole strangely enough.. perhaps just a coincidence though. Can't wait to see how Nacho's in house pickups sound!

John Ortley

looking forward to a video with your Nachocaster:-)

Adam Preston

Nice one man! Keen to hear it in action

Gary Stead

niiiiiiiice! (said in my best Jazz club voice) The pickups going in the ones you been working on?

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Gary! No, the pickups will be made in house by Nacho and his team. They’ve one for 60’s spec for me (so a little brighter and lower output than the typical blackguard set) 👍🏻

Rob Brazier

Wow. This is going to be amazing. Love the neck specs. I desperately need a Tele w/ a chunky neck. After finding my 335 and falling in love with the chunky '59-style neck I want it on every guitar I own...

John Rodgers

Lovely guitar Alex. I have admired the NachoCaster blackguards since I first saw Julian Lage playing one. I am fortunate to own a Ron Kirn Telecaster based on an early 50s Broadcaster. Big chunky neck, Ron's own wound pickups and just an overall wonderful guitar. But something about a period correct Telecaster is hard to beat. Perhaps one day, as a retirement gift to myself!

Alex Farran Guitar

I know what you mean Rob!.. I’m very much into the chunkier neck profiles too and most of my guitars are that way, aside from my Martin OM21 which I cannot stand the neck on! 😬

Esgi...sg

Oh man!!! Congrats! Thanks so much for sharing this, I look forward to hearing and seeing it in action, so nice, ok now I’m gonna bounce back and look at those pics again! Cheers!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks buddy, glad you dig it! I spoke to Nacho just the other day and we're VERY close to shipping indeed!

Joseph Desteiguer

First, Nacho sends you personal emails. Next, your barber tells you jokes! Man, you've arrived !

jb

That is a doozy. Love the finish. Congrats to Nacho and his team on a great job. I have a swamp-ash thinline (no F-hole) that’s light as a feather. Your back will say ’thanks’. I know mine does, everytime ;)

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks buddy! It’s such a pleasure to play on stage.. feels like the guitar is floating it’s so light! 🤪
