Your support has been mind-blowing and I'm so excited to keep pushing this channel on in the New Year. I have some big plans for this place so do stick around. This holiday season we will tackle an amazing Ted Greene Christmas Chord Melody! This is a treasure trove of beautiful, luxury chord voicings as is always the case with Ted Greene's arrangements. A decent challenge in places so I'd put this somewhere around the intermediate to advanced level, but would recommend anyone to have a crack at it. There's always something to be gained by pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. ⏱️ Time stamps ⏱️ 00:00 - Performance 02:05 - Detailed breakdown -------------------------------------------- 🎥 Reference Videos; 🎥 Triads and three note voicings; https://youtu.be/fvvIc93f-EU?si=X0REa9pcLZ_6oqZC Beautiful jazz chords (including the Barry Harris scale); https://youtu.be/e7ojDU1pNSI?si=2glkvrPoBjyT5Pho My Jazz chords survival guide; https://youtu.be/YuGjk8Hqpnw ---------------------------------------- Gear used in this video; Fender 52' Telecaster Emprize Falcon reverb amplifier DR Pure Blues 10-46 strings Universal Audio OX - amp top box Universal Audio Apollo Twin X Logic Pro Universal Audio plugins Sony ZVE-10 camera Neewer Desktop Tripod Final Cut Pro Thanks for watching! This sounds sooo warm. What amp / effects is this going through?

MarkF

Beautiful playing Alex the song just unfolds and holds your attention. I hope I can get close to what I hear you play. All the best over the Christmas season and look forward to what’s coming next and thanks for all your work you put into your lessons it’s appreciated.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Michael, and thank you for your support my friend. Merry Christmas!

Alex Farran Guitar

This is just the tele straight into the Emprize "falcon" amp.. which is essentially a black-panel Deluxe reverb circuit. Lovely sounding thing!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Mark, I really appreciate that. I'm sure you'll make it sound fantastic! Thanks for your support buddy and have a great Christmas! The weekly video lessons will continue through the holiday season by the way. 🎅🏻

Thom Osborne

“Mentally adds that to the shopping list” 😂

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha.. well, I reckon there's still time to get a letter out to Santa 🎅🏻

Gideon Marriott

Absolutely stunning. This is what I imagine for a jazz guitar version of this, particularly that ending peddling the A note 👌 Nowhere near this, but I did start to look at the K. Burrell version after you shared his album this week. Slowly getting there 😂

George Nichols

A merry xmas to you and yours.Peace on eath.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Gideon, glad you enjoyed it! Well worth putting some time into learning it. Oh yeah man, that Kenny Burrell version is fantastic! 👌🏻

banjer71

Wow Alex this is superb I am gonna give it a try although I don't have that kind of technique but I will have some fun for sure. Merry Christmas and thank you

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Davide, really glad you'll give it a go! It's beautiful for sure! Merry Christmas my friend 🍻

Nick Pagoulatos

Hey Alex, thank you for this, what a lovely Xmas gift. I've always been in awe of the wall of harmonic complexity and beauty that is Ted Greene's playing. I've never really even attempted to figure it out because is just seems so full of exotic chords and voicings that flow so damned effortlessly and elegantly from his fingers. BUT your transcription and lesson are just perfect and I've already got a big chunk of this song under my fingers. A very Merry Little Christmas to you indeed!

Daghan

really nice choice and execution man thank you. I would give it a try for sure

Alex Farran Guitar

That’s so good to hear Nick!.. really glad you’re enjoying working on this piece. Have a great Christmas my friend! 🙏🏻🧡🍻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Daghan, I’m glad to hear you’ll give it a go! Have a great Christmas! 🙏🏻🧡

James Gaudette

Thanks Alex! Beautiful piece 🎸🎵

Gert De Groof

Beautiful Alex, you make me appreciate things (itc christmas songs) I would use to overlook too often. I secretly hope you're going to take a few weeks off during the holidays posting great arrangements and lessons, so I can catch up ;-). Take care and merry Christmas to you and yours as well!

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you so much Gert, I appreciate that and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I will be taking a couple of weeks off from filming and teaching privately, but the videos will still be released weekly ;)

Guy Roberts

Really Liked Merry Little Christmas! Big fan of Ted Greene. Found something you might like, maybe to teach. “Ceora” by Lee Morgan. Check out” Ceora by Lee Morgan on Alto Flute” on YouTube by Anders Bostrom. Cheers

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Guy, I will certainly check that out.. thanks for the recommendation. Merry Christmas buddy! 🙏🏻

Paul Scafidi

Alex, I’m having such fun with chord melody! I’m incorporating finger picking techniques I’m learning from Richard Saslow’s book on ragtime guitar. Both things are new to me. I’m enjoying hours 2 bars at a time, exploring the dynamics of the sound and new muscle memory of these great voicings. And Ted Greene, wow. I’m getting his chord chemistry book. It’s the approach I’ve been looking for all along. Inspiring, thank you.

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for the comment Paul, I’m so happy to hear it’s for you feeling so inspired! Ted Greene is some seriously high value stuff.. you’ll gain so much for digging into his World and I can’t recommend it enough! His “modern chord progressions” book is also excellent 👍🏻

Paul Scafidi

In North Carolina, Dr Watson prescribes I don rich bends of sail heading west through Montgomery, toward the Sun in Memphis. draw the brakes Scotty! There’s moore to come in Kansas City where I Count on basing my luck on picking up the Greene. Maybe I’ll survive double trouble in Texas, if Bob wills. Loosening my load in Winslow, I may make it, however haggard to Bakersfield. I’ll leave a rich deposit there, then on to the promised land to drop Freddie of at the Greene party. How many references can you spot?

Paul Scafidi

The pace of this song is good for getting these voicings under the fingers.

Alex Farran Guitar

Haha wow that's impressive my friend! I reckon I twigged most of them! How about "Speeding West" instead of "heading west" to add another ;)

Paul Scafidi

Speeding works too, though speed is more an aspiration than reality for me.

nick kizirnis

Amazing arrangement! Can't wait to learn this for the holidays

Rafael Lucas Pires

Just beautiful. Thanks. I'll try to learn this... and let myself be immersed in the spirit of the season! A great Christmas to you, Alex, and everyone out there!
