I really hope you guys enjoy this one, I feel it contains a lot of information.. not too dissimilar to the Motown one from a few weeks back. Chordal, triad based double stops, lead ideas and textures that work so well for creating memorable guitar parts and solos. This stuff is session play, studio gold! The idea, as always, is to play tastefully to serve the song. In this case, we're playing in an Americana, Country/Pop style. But of course, this stuff is genre-less really and works in any style your imagination can muster!

Cultured, compelling and complementary to the song.. those are the three "C's" we should care most about.

Excellent Alex, brewing a cafe in anticipation 😎🎩🙏🏼

Steve Schwartz

That was great. Very insightful. Thank you

Esgi...sg

Great work Alex, your lessons have brought so much inspiration to my love of both the guitar and music in general 🙏🏼🎩

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man, that's so nice to hear! Thank you my friend, I really appreciate the comment. And thanks for your enthusiasm and hunger for learning! 🙏🏻

James Gaudette

Once again, amazing lesson! Thank you!

DENNIS CHUGH

Pure ‘milk chocolate’ !!! SUCH SWEET LUSH TONES!

Cassius Box

Absolutely fantastic. A great lesson.

Todd Grubb

Thank you for this wonderful lesson. You mentioned in a previous video that you have Sunbear pickups in your '52 tele, but were thinking about replacing them. Are those still the Sunbears? Or have you moved on to something else? And once again, thank you for another very helpful plus motivating lesson!

Joseph Corso

So Much fantastic information in under 30 minutes wow!!! Alex you did it again ...truly amazing ...I am so thankful for these incredible lessons they are making a huge difference in my playing ...

Alex Farran Guitar

Thank you Joseph, I really appreciate the comment. So glad you’re enjoying the lessons and finding them to be useful! 🙏🏻

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks Todd, really glad you’re finding the lessons useful 🙏🏻 So, for this video, I’d gone back to the creamery classic 64 bridge pickup and the hardwired Fender nocaster neck pickup. (This is while we continue to tweak the Sunbears). 😎

David Lemon

Alex, I'm not sure if anyone's asked and I may have missed you talking about it in the video, but can you mention your tone? Do you have the tremolo dialed up?

Tom Brunelle

Wow what a lesson. Chock full of thoughful goodness! Love it, Timely for me as well. Will be digging into this straight away.

Alex Farran Guitar

Sure.. so for the teaching portion of the video using the telecaster, I have the tremolo and reverb on (using the Strymon Flint for both), and I'm plugged into my Lazy J20. But for the opening performance, I'm just plugged directly into my deluxe reverb and using the inbuilt trem and reverb on there. Hope that helps 🍻

David Lemon

Super - thanks for explaining. I’m really excited to dive into this one.

Jacob Hapeta

you mention a thorough video on triads and a link, where is the link

Michael Sosebee

Hi Alex I love the tune but I had in mind a Country and Western Ballad, you know the one I mean, about that one special girl that you had and let her get away and you remember her a lifetime later. Got the Chorus but it needs a Bridge and outro. Wadayathink?

Mark Gavin

Hi Alex - where is the link to the triad lesson that you mention at the beginning of this lesson? Thx

Mark Gavin

No worries - there is so much to learn in this study. I've rarely really used the 2/9 in my years of blues playing - so nice to learn these new ideas. thanks again!!

Brendan Tindall

For someone that has just waffle around in the pentatonic for years, what an eye opener, every note is a choice and has a purpose, sounds so stupid of me

Alex Farran Guitar

Thanks for the comment Brendan, glad you enjoyed the lesson! We’ve all been there, wondering how to get out of the “pentatonic rut”.. enjoy the journey in finding your true inner voice 👌🏻😎

antoine NIOI

Yeah similar techniques as the Motown video with a funny touch of country style ! I don’t why but sometimes I think about till there was you ( Beatles version 😉)

Alex Farran Guitar

Absolutely.. a mix of country, soul and singer/songwriter.. very George Harrison in places ;)

Andre Hessels

Amazing lesson. Thanks. A lot of focus on the Sus 2 here. Can you create the same effects and tension with the sus 4?

Andre Hessels

I just did an attempt to play your solo. See link. I couldn’t some of the country bends and swapped for some hammer ons. Also played on a small Katana air amp so still a long way to go. Thanks for all your lessons and detailed explanations. Extremely valuable. https://youtu.be/lkN2QEseb2E?si=BLUFVitVUL5nxFoj

Alex Farran Guitar

Oh man, how did I miss this?!.. I love it, great work buddy! Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

Michael Sosebee

Hey Alex - I'm going back over this lesson for a variety of reasons. First of all you can't get these tunes if you don't count. I have resisted doing that because I'm lazy but I have made up my mind that I'm going to use my metronome, a super mini by Wittner. It's old school but I don't like electric metronomes. I had to slow it down to 70 bpm and that helped a lot. I imagine how many hours of work you put into these lessons I am blown away at how inventive and intense your work-load must be. Thanks for the effort! This lesson is very deep for me. I like that you broke it down to a simple progression: CM-FM-CM-Am-GM-C-Fm-GM. What I find is that although it is simple in construction, it is roots of country music, which suits my taste. I really like the theme and I feel inspired. I wonder if you could help me develop it into a country ballad? I don't sing much but I know some people that do. I live in Las Vegas so there's lots of talent here. Maybe we could arrange a face to face lesson and work through it that way. Let me know. Mike

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Mike, super glad you enjoy this one so much, and that you're taking to the metronome practice routine! It'll certainly pay off! Feel free to adapt it into a full song with lyrics etc.. that's cool with me! Alex :)

Declan o’ Luasa

Hey Alex- Nice lesson. I don't see the link to the lesson on triads you mentioned, spread triads etc. Thanks

Dennis Engel

Hi Alex. What pedal do you use to create the pedal steel guitar sound you clicked to in solo 4?

Alex Farran Guitar

Hi Dennis, no pedal at all. Just some reverb from the amp on the whole performance. The pedal steel sounds are all about string bends and hybrid picking. I do have a couple of stand alone lessons about that technique if you’re interested. Just search “steel bends” here on my Patreon home page.
