Byong Gu (or however it's spelled) was in the first episode. He healed the hunters who were being nom nom nommed by the ants. Ahh. If JinWoo has shadows with the hunters, if one or more of the shadows dies he'll noticed because of the mana drain to regenerate them. So he'll know if the Shit Is Going Down. Don't know what orders he gave them. Will they be bodyguards like the High Orc captain guarding his sister? 31:45 "I was convinced the Korean hunters were going to run into a trap." Anywhere Captain Ant (B***) is, is a trap.

Jinwoo didn't use most of his abilities during the spar, even beyond the shadows. When you consider things like his fear aura, his dash ability, etc. I would say he's far past the level of the japanese guy if they both went all out

Top Ant just one-shotted an S-Rank, healer or not. She was fighting ants too. In the very first episode we saw Korea's S-Rank healer fighting the ants as well. Also, that's intelligence to take out the healer first, not just brawn.

In manga Goto felt terror when shadow soldier hid in his shadow. So he noticed something was off, but couldn't tell what exactly. The other guy, who did not want to go is S-Rank healer from the first episode.

What AniNews said in his video was that Goto was ''allegedly'' as strong as the Chinese National hunter. It remains to be proven if he's reached that level, but it's still clear he's way stronger than regular S ranks. Also, there could still be a wide gap in strength between the National ranked hunters, just as it's the case with other ranks.

It's not just in Solo Leveling. It's pretty common in series that are fairly modern-day settings (there's some way worse in Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, for example). Korea's has a long history of being colonized and treated *very* badly by Japan, so it's not just generalized xenophobia, it's very specific to Japan. From what I gather, it's very common to make Japanese bad guys comically evil. And--to be fair--Japan isn't a lot better about Korea, only the attitude is less "they're the big bad" than "they're lesser" (Japan is still very xenophobic in general, including toward other Asians.) Considering in the Japanese version being aired, they set it in Japan (instead of Korea) and made a whole imaginary country to replace Japan (since just flip flopping it wouldn't make sense given the population differences, it would make no sense for Korea to have more S ranks than Japan), I wouldn't be surprised if the straight up cut out all of the xenophobic subplots.

The most disturbing to me is that they... still didn't talk about the nation-level hunters lol. The amount of cut content is ungodly, I even wonder if we'll even be able to see Goto's motivations for the raid. But yeah, the animation is good.

So there are 10 Korean S-ranks who have awakened. Chairman Go was the first--he's not going on the raid. We're not really sure of the order of the next, but there was Choi Jong-In, Baek Yoonho, Min Byung-gu, Ma Dongwook(big guy in the gi), Lim Tae-gyu (leader of the Reapers Guild and the archer you didn't recognize), and Eunseok (the one who died) were your first 7 Korean S-ranks. Hwang Dongsoo is the 8th, but he defected, Cha Hae-in is the 9th, and Jinwoo the 10th. So before Byung-gyu decided to show, you only had 5 of the 9 (living) Korean awakened S-ranks who were going to go, because Eunseok is dead, Hwang's petition to join was rejected, Go can't go (not healthy enough), and Byung-gyu was retired, and Jinwoo opted not to.

for why not all the korean hunters are going: Jinwoo isn't bc his mom, the Chairman is retired and overseeing the raid, the healer Byung Gu was originally not planning to come, and 2 of the S ranks of Korea died while raiding Jeju. So that accounts for some of them. Also, the Japanese guy Goto is not a national level hunter. Idk who said that, but he isn't one. He's the strongest in Japan I believe, but is not national level.

About Goto, I don’t believe it was mentioned in the show but I assume he heard it from aninews that Goto is actually on par with a national level hunter in terms of strength but there’s another requirement for becoming a national level hunter that he didn’t complete yet, clearing an S-rank dungeon and I’m pretty sure that’s also why he agreed so readily to help Korea with Jeju island because it would allow him to become the sixth national level hunter after the raid is finished.

Or episode 18 DS when the string comes towards tanjiro and his sword break and the episode ends with a string coming to our face. Plenty of similar or worse cliffhangers in mid fight.

Also in the Manhwa it‘s pretty clear that Jinwoo is stronger that the japanese guild master (from the perspective of the guild master even)

he's referring to the aninews detail that Goto (the japanese guild leader) WOULD have been a qualified National S ranked level hunter, but since Goto hasn't cleared an S-ranked dungeon, he doesnt get that title yet (that's potentially oneof the reasons why goto wants to clear jeju island as well, personal accomplishment).

I'm not sure if it's because my internet is a bit dodgy while I'm on the road in China right now but the ending felt abrupt, and amazing cliffhanger of course, but I feel like the dialogue cut off felt like it should have been while the decapitated girl was talking? It felt like we were supposed to feel something about the power level but I honestly was more focused on the face that it hunted the HEALER down first. And if anything, it's good thing byeun gu joined as the surprise cameo s ranked healer . I'm seeing that people love this arc so let's hope the anime does it Justice for anime only watchers (I watch anime first, read manwa and LN after for more lore and data) Or maybe I need to rewatch

Really good ending scene, makes you hyped for next week. Also nice to see that this one is also intelligent and focuses the healer first. The gith against Gotou is Jinwoos best chance to measure how strong he is against the best hunters in the world. If he can keep up or defeat him he probably does not need to fear anyone else. If he loses he knows what height to aspire to. So it is a win/win match. If i had to be a shadow attached to someone i would want i to be Cha ... for safety reasons.

Most readers aren't actually that upset. Sure there are a lot of things that would have been nice to see in the anime, but they are not needed. We are being given an accurate, beautifully animated adaptation, and thats truly all we ever wanted!!!! :D What people are truly upset with is a lot of the small dumb things, like Jinwoo crying, for whatever reason...

For me it wasn‘t even much of a cliffhanger at all. We could expect something would happen in this scene, and it happened. Had the episode been cut off before we see the head gone, yeah. The two others will have a hard time fighting it, when an S-rank hunter was so easily slain by a newborn ant, but we kind of knew that before. And she wasn‘t one with a shadow soldier, so Jinwoo will probably not yet be alerted. I mean, that‘s one reason he placed them, is it? What‘s interesting now is how, or if, word will get out, or if this ant will act like a Predator (from the movie), from the shadow… And what is the Queen scheming? Demon slayer otoh would let us think Tanjiro had already won, while being half dead, and the fight would go on another half episode.

They're not "hiding" their auras. This is not Dragon Ball. They're not showing their full strength when they're relaxed. This is similar to a bodybuilder. You can tell the dude has a lot of muscle, but you can't really tell how much just looking at him until he flexes. This is the same thing with powerful hunters.

I would imagine he is thinking in the context of it should have been mentioned/happened but was cut because most likely it was cut for time. so in the context of the original story you would have known at this point so he would view that as not a spoiler as it would have happened instead of has yet to happen. Of course everyone has a different opinion when it comes to cut content videos. On one hand, they cut it and it should have been mentioned by now so it maybe shouldn't be "Forbidden knowledge" and it just add context and worldbuilding etc. On the other hand i suppose its possible the show might later decide to throw it in with different context which may make it some form of spoiler, idk. So Aninews and others have never really "Spoiled" me on anything at least from my pov.

Since you've been watching anime almost daily for like two years, I guess by now you should be able to distinguish most of the time when it's a Japanese name or a Korean (or non-Japanese) name. Byung-gu is a Korean name, since Japanese names don't end with 'ng', and most importantly, don't have hyphens.
