But notice how the one guy that got away does have a family and kids because he wasn’t at the rose mansion long enough for the results to take full effect Johan did say when he told Nina to shoot her “I am you and you are me” whatever that could possibly mean

I'm loving this series so much. It's such a good mystery. I'm so glad to finally be watching it, especially with Luke. I have a theory about what's going on, but it's a stupid theory, and it doesn't really make a lot of sense when scrutinized, but I'll be interested to see if it comes true.

Monster is truly incredible, but it's a shame that we don't have as many anime adaptations of Naoki Urasawa's other mangas. I agree that this work deserves much more love, for now in the West, it's a hidden gem. But in Japan, his works are considered masterpieces, on par with the prestige of Studio Ghibli's works. I recommend checking out, since you're British, the Master Keaton series, of course Pluto and who knows, Yawara... perhaps the Urasawa adaptation that became most popular in Japan... a romantic comedy about judo.

So, my one theory at this point is that each twin can convincingly play the other. It’s a trope I’ve seen in a few different things involving twins. We’ve seen Johan dress up as Nina, so who’s to say Nina couldn’t dress up as Johan. When we got the flashback of what happened at the Liebert mansion, Johan even told Nina “You are me and I am you.” What this actually means for the greater story though, I have no idea. Maybe they’re actually both girls. Twin sisters who are good at pretending to be a boy. Or vice versa.
