Oh god, what have they done ? I only watched this movie ONCE for school and I bawled my eyes out and never watched it again, I think we're gonna break Luke 😭

Mio Okamy

poor Luke y-y my heart is with you

Gina Queen

love that youre reacting to this but hate that I have to relive this trauma 😭😭

Hiruman

Gonna skip on this. I watched this show 4 times, in 4 different language and one time I don't even understand what the characters were saying. Same result, I cried every single time...

zenting

I promised myself I'd never watch this anime. And I'm sticking to that promise. So good luck and have ...well, probably not fun.

zenting

You don't have to. Why do you want to upset yourself? Weird.

Sai

Skipping as well(i don't handle depression well), but... Luke, react to the Overlord movie!

Gina Queen

because i want to watch it, why are you pressed lol

Slipstream

Kokoro test of courage. Who here is brave enough for this movie?

Charlotte

RIP Luke, I can't watch this react... My heart can't...

FaerieRose

This one is a rite of passage.

It's easy to see that you wear your heart on your sleeve, so when I saw this pop up, I was like "Oh no!" lol! My husband always reminds me that Roger Ebert proclaimed "Grave of the Fireflies" to be one of the greatest war films ever made. It really is an amazing film, but it is a hard watch. Glad your pushing through, at least once.

Vincenzo

Man, why do you do this to yourself... i pass this reaction, once was enough.

Saiyasha

Oh boy.... there are gonna be so many tears... I have never watched this movie fully again after I watched it for the first time. i do sometimes watch reactions like this, but i could never bring myself to watch it again for real. It is beautiful and it breaks your heart.

I have seen this movie just once 25-27ish ago and it's one of those must watch ones that just give you emotional damage but so worth the time. Also I hope there will be more Patreon or YouTube movies coming as there is a lot of great cinematic treasures that are not totally compatible with Twitch rules Akira Ghost in the Shell (1995) Redline Vampire hunter D (2000) Ninja scroll Paprika Perfect Blue and much more

Nob Kenobi

Be brave, Luke! This is definitely one of the hardest movies to watch, and I confess that I'm watching it with a handkerchief and a heavy heart. But it's definitely the kind of work that's required to understand how far humanity has come with senseless wars, how much this has interrupted lives, and also how much people fight for their loved ones anyway. Probably everyone who finishes watching this movie goes through a period of mourning, but it serves to make us rethink the life we have today.

Enigma

fuck this to much ,i cant handle watching innocent little child suffer, my tears keep coming out

Shana

Sorry Luke, I love myself too much to watch this reaction and put myself through this movie again.

Gavin Wong

The story is based on Nosaka's own experiences, including the bombing of Kobe and the loss of his family.

Sylisen E.

Not this again 😭 I can't watch this again, leaving a like and moving on

Yero19

Oh shit here we going again!! Hello depression my old friend I come to cry with you again ...... And to think it's a Studio Ghibli production. The film is based on the 1967 semi-autobiographical short story by Japanese author Akiyuki Nosaka. It is based on his experiences before, during, and after the firebombing of Kobe in 1945. One of his sisters died as the result of sickness, his adoptive father died during the firebombing, and his younger sister Keiko died of malnutrition in Fukui. It was written as a personal apology to Keiko, regarding her death and his great survivor complex, that's why the character based on him also dies in the story

I first saw this movie when I was like... 10 or 12? My grandma grabbed it from blockbuster thinking it would be fun since it was a cartoon, and uh... yeah. I was not expecting it and it really fucked me up. Such a good film but not one I can easily rewatch. Love you Luke, but definitely gonna have to pass on this one.

Jardin Jumat

Oh man… why do i have to suffer watching this movie again

Talias_Light

Well I tried to watch your reaction but I just could not. I saw this movie once. And it seems I am not able to watch it again. It is just too devestating. Maybe all should have watched it in school, maybe then there would be more understanding for the suffering that war brings.

GTB

Oh dear lord...I saw this movie 20 years ago, it devastated me and I've never forgotten it. A single note of the music, or a single sound from Seita or Setsuko's voices, instantly brings tears to my eyes. A pure heartbreaking masterpiece. One of the greatest movies ever.

Toasterfinal5

This seems a bit random. But you mentioned why the characters are not expressing an emotional breakdown in such dire circumstances. Your perspective on family and your moral compass reveal your altruistic nature. However, there’s a significant disparity between your beliefs and the nature of this movie. That’s precisely why I watch these reaction videos. I don’t want to see you get emotional, but rather I want to understand why it’s going to affect you.

Ara Araragi

30:50 He was eating umeboshi (pickled plums) which are very sour/salty

Desolane

People don't have "emotional breakdowns" like you see in cheesy Hollywood movies compared to real life scenarios with extreme suffering like in WW2. Death was everywhere, corpses in ditches on the side of the road, some weeks there is no food sold whatsoever, family members just disappear and are never heard from again. Most of these people do not have the physical strength to cry anymore.

Chair_No_Bill

one of the best movies i've ever seen, won't watch it a 2nd time :'(

Decayed Lulzul

This is a biiiig nope, not watching this again. Hope you enjoy it though

hussam abdelalim

that is the only reason I fill off AOT after a while, while the story is great it was way to dramatic all the time, so i lost my emotional connection to everyone in that world, I was thinking i know refugees who would crack jokes of there time at war , and I don't get it but it tills me war is not drama it is trauma, and trauma dose not make since, and if every body has it, it may as well be normal, as it is shown here and it reflects reality people still live there lives in this situation that is effecting every body, the talk, eat, sleep, fight, bully and play, while still being miserable they just avoid being in it, or ongoing it's constant existence beyond the raw facts, or they will not be able to live, try thinking of your own trauma and how you lived with that, I don't think that there is something more traumatic than another, because it is subjective how an event can hurt you, I do think that there are things more tragic than others but that can be seen from the outside only.

Orkidaisy

This movie does a lot things right, but one thing that gets me, now that I've seen it more than once, is how you forget during the movie that they told us that they are going to die. You just keep hoping that everything will turn out okay, and it breaks your heart to million bits when it doesn't. Yes, it's a hard one to watch, as it should be. Like the war in To Your Eternity wasn't an epic battle but a hard struggle to survive, and for a viewer, it should feel as such. Of course in this movie everything is much worse than in TYE, for many reasons.

Orkidaisy

The aunt definitely isn't the mother's sister since the aunt asked about "relatives from the mother's side of the family" that live in Tokyo. So they are either her brother's children or they are her husband's relatives. Either way, she's definitely putting her children and herself first as there is a shortage of food. I have a feeling that a lot of people have made that same choice, and being in that same situation we would make the same choice, even though we'd like to think that we wouldn't. War hardens people, especially since it has gone on for so long and you can't know when it's going to end. Yes, she's terrible. I doubt she would've been a good mother to them even in better times, but I feel that I can't really judge her, since I've never had to face death, hunger and constant fear for my and my loved ones' life and safety, and hopefully I never will.

Deatheye

Seeing how things are in Ukraine, I appreciate the movie even more. They somehow gave you the impression of how war is. Everything happens suddenly, unexpectedly and happens fast. The feeling you get in the beginning of this movie. Another Building and 12 dead 30 in a hospital, that’s just a normal Monday. Pretending like it’s just a normal day is the only way to not go crazy. And after some time, it really is just a normal day, Humans can get used to a lot… I still wonder how, after seeing some pictures from that war I had to take a break for some weeks, I started to get flashes of those things during the day…

grave of the fireflies into dxd is a crazy transition but anyways thank you for watching this movie

Malik Ford

Looking forward for part two

Fantastically done movie showing the horrors of war at home, must be watched once, understood that some choose to pass a second go through. I’ll be here for my second time, battling the emotions every step of the way. Side note: I see a lot of people saying they can’t go through it again. So….where are all those people that voted for it? Be strong Luke

Carla

Luke, my friend, please give your boys a big cuddle, spend a wonderful evening with your wife, and otherwise look after yourself. This film is on my thanks for ripping my heart out, but never again DNI list, along with Ronan, Soon You’ll Get Better, Happiness, Forever Winter, and Bigger Than the Whole Sky.

Rem is best waifu

I love depression so I waited for the second part.

Arctic_Hokkyoku

DxD will be a wild time. Unlike anything he's ever watched before....Redo of Healer when?

Arctic_Hokkyoku

This film is also similar to another Ghibli film The Wind Rises, both are about war although I think the Wind Rises is even better

SakakiMaya

Many years ago when Disney and Studio Ghibli made their distribution deal I bought the Ghibli DVDs that were subtitled from Japan. I was living at home and had a region free DVD player. I got Grave of the Fireflies and I think Nausicaa at the same time and went to work. I came home to my mom crying as they were right at the end of the movie. My dad looks at me and says "This is not a happy movie." I replied with "Yeah, it starts of with the atom bomb." Years later we all went to Japan for vacation and we spent a day in Hiroshima. The museum is absolutely brutal to go through. I remember after we finished and were heading to the train station to go back to our hotel via bullet train I leaned over to my brother and said "I'm going to need a lot of cat videos tonight."

Aaren YASS

Her saying the better food goes to the hard workers makes sense. They need the calories from the rice. As long as she and the others have soup it's fine. But the kids are entitled to THEIR rice, since they basically paid for it.

Orkidaisy

I feel she is mostly using that "food for workers" as an excuse. The girl is already having the rash due to malnutrition, and at the same time the aunt is scraping the pots and eating the leftovers herself.

God E.N.D

I really love the fireflies movie.
